Explore the beauty of coastal downeast Maine from this quiet solar powered cabin and campsite along the Pennamaquon River. This remote property is surrounded by woods and connects two beauties--the Pennamaqoun Lake and Passamaquody Bay. The rocky Maine Coast, Reversing falls, the Sunrise Trail and the Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge are all nearby. Going up the river about 1/4 of a mile you will find yourself on a quiet lake where you are more likely to see an eagle than a person. About a 1/4 of a mile downriver you will come to a popular swim hole and rope swing. In the spring you might see spawning alewives. You may see ducks, eagles, king fisher, heron, beaver, turtles (or their nests) and loon right from the dock. You won't need your binoculars to catch site of the occasional Mainer floating by in a handmade wooden boat. If you wave, you might get a wave back. It's a soul restoring place appreciated most by those who like human powered activities--like kayaks, canoes and paddle boards (all provided) and a chance to cook on an open fire. There is a picnic table and 4 Adirondack chairs and no wifi. You might also like to swim or float down the river in an inner tube. You can fish on the dock or from your boat. If you have a bike-- head to the nearby Sunrise Trail or country roads. Head there too, if you have shoes and want a measured run (it goes about 87 miles through field, forest, swamp and bog with mileage noted). Eastport is a nearby seaside town with an arts center, shops and dining about 15 minutes away. You can go whale watching and you might just see porpoise, whales, eagles and Old Sow Whirlpool, the largest whirlpool in the Americas. Or stay on shore, and hunt for sea glass and cool rocks. Grab something to eat while you are there, and check out Don Dunbar's amazing nature photography and local gifts. There is also coastal hiking at Shackford Head. You might also head towards Lubec (about 45 minutes) and go on a coastal hike on the Bold Coast trail, or visit the Quoddy Head Lighthouse or cross the bridge into Canada and visist Campobello. Do not miss Monica and her handmade chocolates! You can also head North on Route 1 and go to Canada, just 30 minutes away. Hope to see you with children and dogs!There are lots of good tenting spots and two hammocks, but if you think you may like to use the cabin futon, bring your own bedding. It is full-size. If you don’t have full-sized bedding just let us know and we can help out. Also, bring your own drinking water. There are lots of places to gather firewood on the property. Finally, bring biodegradable soap to keep the river happy and healthy.

There are lots of good tenting spots and two hammocks, but if you think you may like to use the cabin futon, bring your own bedding. It is full-size. If you don’t have full-sized bedding just let us know and we can help out. Also, bring your own drinking water. There are lots of places to gather firewood on the property. Finally, bring biodegradable soap to keep the river happy and healthy.

Beautiful & peaceful spot. We heard owls and critters slipping into the water while making our dinner. The cabin was a comfortable refuge from the rain. The owners are kind and attentive. Since this is a very open site, we do recommend that folks bring a popup shelter.

We loved this campsite! Our family of 7 loves off the grid camping where we can have complete privacy and just enjoy our time in the woods together. This place was just perfect, and we definitely plan on going back. I keep hearing my kids say “that was our best camping spot ever!” The kayaks and paddle boards and dock were such fun, and the fire pit set up was great. We had a nice big spot for our tent and good hammock spots and the cabin was so cute and perfect. Also - an outhouse with a Dutch door - best idea ever! Conveniently located near Eastport, Quoddy Head, and many other places we love to visit. 10 out of 10 recommend - we will be back!

Just book it. So close to endless fun things to do whether you are a family or independently traveling. The cabin is so clean and cozy and cute. Solar powered! The dock was fabulous. The kids had SO MUCH FUN fishing with trout worms and caught many many many little bass. The campfire, picnic tables, outhouse all amazing. We are already trying to figure out when we can return before the end of the season. If you’re looking for a dog friendly, family friendly, truly remote and secluded hidden gem… THIS is your spot. I don’t always love to meet owners (part of the reason we camp is to get away from people!) but Sam who met us was SO helpful, kind, unassuming, not intimidating, not judgmental, gave incredible recommendations. This is the best Hipcamp we have ever been to.

We enjoyed our stay at this campsite. It had close access to lovely hikes nearby and Eastport is an easy 15 minutes away. The campsite felt truly private though we enjoyed seeing the occasional boater while relaxing on the dock. There are paddle boats, kayaks and an aluminum canoe available for use. We also took advantage of staying in the cozy cabin which allowed respite from the hungry mosquitoes (always expected on a camping trip). The cabin has a pullout futon and screens on all the windows/door for ventilation. It was perfect!

We had such a fantastic and relaxing weekend on Sue & Brian’s property! With firewood ready for us at our arrival and a bevy of paddle boards & kayaks to use, we had everything we needed and more for a perfect weekend. Absolutely recommend!

My family and I loved tent camping on Susan’s land! We could not have picked a better spot; access to the river with the option to paddle board or canoe to the lake or head in the opposite direction to the local’s swim area. My Son started and ended the day fishing and my daughter was inspired to fish as well. Susan & Brian are welcoming and accomodating and their little slice of land was exactly what we needed. It did rain on us, but we took that as an opportunity to head to Canada to explore and check out some of Susan’s recommendations and we were not dissapointed. Susan was responsive and attentive, directions were clear and we got more than we were expecting❤️

Best camping spot I’ve ever been to. Right near the river. Kayaks, a boat, and paddle boards provided by Susanne. I would recommend bug spray as the mosquitos were a bit much. I can’t wait to come back during Fall or Spring.

I had an amazing time staying at Sussane’s land! It was very private and quiet. They provided us with extra things that were in the shed if we forgot/ didn’t have something like bug spray, chairs some extra floats! They also provided us with paddle boards, a kayak and a little boat. It was a very relaxing experience. Sussane’s husband greeted us and he was amazing as well, super helpful with the questions we had. Overall an amazing experience, would definitely recommend

Susanne provided us with a great quiet location. We had a super view of the river, complete with ducks swimming around. There's a big open area for tent, large firepit, with plenty of wood provided, surrounded by comfortable Adirondack chairs. A shed contains anice selection of life jackets and paddles for use with the many personal watercraft available for use. The boats, dock and float are about a two minute walk away. Everything was super clean, including the outhouse, which is about a two minute walk in the opposite direction from the water. Susanne was away, so her husband, Brian, met us and showed us around, he was very informative, not only about the property but the local area. I would definitely visit again.

I stayed with my wife for two nights on Susanne and Brian's land. We had such a wonderful time relaxing on the property. It's a private and serene lot with access to the river. We has so much fun on the paddle boards provided to explore the lake.. We would definitely consider staying again!

We absolutely loved our trip to Susanne’s camp. It is a private site on a river with two picnic tables and a large fire pit. Susanne was there to greet us when we arrived and showed us around the property which has kayaks, paddle boards and a deck. Unfortunately it rained the days we were there and didn’t use the equipment, but it is excellent shape and will definitely stay longer next visit. Could not recommend this location high enough. Susanne was an excellent host and we are looking forward to our next visit.

Nice secluded single camping site on a beautiful lazy river. A short path to a dock to swim or boat. Kayaks, canoe, paddle boards and a beautiful great big rowboat are all available which was so convenient. Bring sturdy water shoes or sneakers as the path to the boats is a bit wild. The river is teeming with wildlife. It’s an easy paddle up river, the river opens onto a large lake with endless opportunities for exploring. The tenting area is sunny with a few pretty flat spots. And in the middle of the open area is a fire pit. Bring your chairs! Picnic table available too. The very clean outhouse is a good distance from the camping area and has a view through the trees of the river. Suzanne is very friendly and a wealth of information about the area. Thank you for sharing this lovely spot with us.
