Hollis Haven was fantastic and Athena is a stellar host. The setting is friendly with plenty of farm animals to keep anyone entertained, while the campsite is set back enough for plenty of privacy. Great base camp location for anyone looking to hike, or explore the area. WILL be returning!

Hollis HEAVEN👏
Athena is a phenomenal woman!! She made our stay at Hollis Haven so wholesome and fun. She gave us eggs, firewood, advice, etc. Her balance of giving us privacy and giving us unmatched hospitality is masterful. You can tell she is an experienced host! She runs a rescue for a variety of animals and does a fantastic job with all of them. I asked her for dog sitter/daycare suggestions and after a quick temperament assessment of my dog she offered to watch my dog, Timber, too! We negotiated a fair price and honestly that made our trip even more relaxed. Overall, you cannot go wrong staying here. She was the best part of our 2 week camping trip. We miss her and will be back!! ☺️❤️

Unfortunately there was a major rain storm and the owner called and suggested we postpone our stay and she would reimburse us. We did and she did. I will book again as I appreciate that kind of service

Hollis Haven
We had an excellent time staying at Hollis Haven and would highly recommend it! We chose Hollis Haven because it was just a 30 minute drive from our place in Portland, and we wanted to test out camping with our 12 pound dog for the very first time. When our original trip date got rained out, Athena reached out beforehand to help us to find an alternative time, which was really sweet. She was super understanding about our situation with our dog and even offered us doggy bowls or other supplies in case we forgot anything! She was delightful to talk to and greeted us in a mask, and also told us about her COVID precautions with Hipcamp. We felt very safe, no concerns there. When we arrived at the farm she showed us the sites we could pick from, and introduced us to the sheep and chickens! We chose the site furthest from the house, which had a small fire pit, some chairs, and a couple of tools (shovel, rake, grill top, etc.) available to us. Since we were camping in spring, the leaves didn't really block our view of the house, but it didn't matter much to us and Athena assured us that they couldn't see us from the house. It felt private enough, but good knowing we were just a short walk from the car/main road in case we forgot something. The only downside was that we found lots of ticks at our site, so I would recommend bringing a spray or wearing tick repellent clothing! We considered moving to the site that bordered the backyard because it was less woodsy, but we ultimately decided it wasn't a big deal and we liked our site too much to move. We didn't end up with any tick bites. If you're looking for a quiet place but that isn't too remote, with an excellent host, and proximity to lots of Maine sights, this is the spot for you!

Wonderful stay!
We had a great stay! The address was easy to find and the campsite was beautiful and felt like it was in the middle of the woods, even though we were still very close to our car! It was a great jumping off point for what we wanted to do in Maine and to start us off for our next destination to the west. The only thing I would say is if someone is expecting complete silence — you may not get that here. We could hear trucks and cars from the road off and on throughout the night. It didn’t bother us, and we actually loved that the campsite wasn’t far! Highly recommend this place and the very sweet host.

Homey farm outside of Portland
My sister, her partner and I booked here last minute for a place to stay outside of Portland, Maine. Athena was so welcoming and accommodating. Her farm was a treasure; the campsite was perfect for the night and for a reasonable price. I only wish we could have stayed for longer than one night!

Athena was a great host! It was fun for us to see her farm and was also nice to have a clearing to camp in that was a bit removed from the farm. We enjoyed camping, hiking nearby, and a delicious ice cream stand down the road.

My teenage son and I stayed here for one night while visiting Portland and we both loved this cozy private camping spot. Athena is genuine and welcoming and her setup is amazing. Open the gate to a wonderful menagerie of ducks and geese, sheep and chickens. The site is well away from the animals, well kept and perfect for tenting. We enjoyed cooking over the fire and listening to the woods. A very special hidden gem we are happy to have discovered for our trips down to southern Maine.

A Must Stay!!! Loved it all
Fantastic experience. Athena was so friendly, offering us free kindling wood for our fire and leaving out hot coffee in the morning before our departure. The location is for animal lovers, as our stay was graced with a hello and goodbye by a hoard of curious chickens, roosters, and ducks as well as very friendly sheep. Just beyond this farm-yard, through a cute well-lit path into the woods is the actual site. Chairs, fire pit, string lights, and solar lanterns are a few of the added charms that pushed this site over the top. Cannot recommend this site enough—amazing!

Easy and fun camp spot for children
My daughter and I really enjoyed Hollis Haven! I was looking for a place where I would feel comfortable camping as a woman alone with a small child. I didn't feel safe with the idea of camping in the forest or at a state park and was not interested in a busy campground, especially during covid-19. I found Hollis Haven listed as one of HipCamp's top places to camp with kids in New England and decided to give it a shot. The woods behind Athena's house are pretty and there's plenty of space to pitch one or two tents, set up a tarped seating area, your stove, and start a fire in their small fire pit. There are some chairs there and two tiny tables, though we had our own chairs. We ventured down the road one of the days to Little Ossipee Lake Beach for a swim. it's a great little swimming beach at this gorgeous large lake. It's about a nine mile drive from Hollis Haven. Athena was incredibly generous, spending a lot of time showing my 3.5-year old her 35 beautiful and unusual breeds of chickens and ducks and four adorable sheep. My daughter was in heaven stroking the sheep's recently shorn wool, feeding the chickens and ducks, and exploring on the farm. Athena brought out oats and grains multiple times so my daughter could feed the animals, and even sent us home with a dozen fresh eggs and a small bag of wool. We even had an adorable chicken that befriended us and would visit us at the campsite, walking through the woods to get from its coop to us a couple times a day. It was very sweet. Hollis Haven was exactly what I was looking for. I felt extremely safe, and my daughter was super happy, and Athena was so kind and I enjoyed talking with her about her plans for building a greenhouse, learning about her animals, and hearing stories from their adventures. I do think it's important to note that although I think it's perfect for people with kids, or others who are interested in staying on a small family-run farm, it's not the most serene camping because it's not as remote as somewhere deep in the woods would be. You can definitely hear the trucks on the state road that is close by and you can occasionally hear the poultry and sheep making their little noises. Although I love very remote camping with all of the serenity of being totally out in the middle of nowhere, it wasn't what I was looking for this time, and I was so thankful to find Hollis Haven and Athena. We hope to come back next year and see how the farm has changed and what new animals they may have at that time. Thanks so much, Athena, for a perfect mother-daughter weekend!

Great Noethern Road Trip
This was a great choice! We stayed here on our way to Acadia NP and it was perfect. We even got to stop by funky bow brewing and have some ice cream from big daddys north which even had pizza. The site was open and private plus the chickens and goats were alot of fun. 5/5

Gorgeous, welcoming, with animals!
Athena and her property were both just lovely. As we were leaving, my bf said we need to make sure to stay in touch to go back again sometime. She really wanted to make sure that we had the best stay possible. We found the place easily, and Athena greeted us upon arrival. She was really responsive the whole time if we ever needed assistance. The camping spot was separate from the farm area, and felt totally private. It was beautiful and perfect! In her backyard/farm area, she let us pet and feed the sheep, and had a grill for us to use. There’s also a small fire pit at the camp site. She had also pre-prepared water for us if we needed it. Super thoughtful! In the morning she had put out breakfast and coffee, as well as a note with grains to feed the chickens, as she knew i loved hanging with the animals! She had a couple dogs as well that we loved to play with. She also sells fresh eggs, and let us take home some! Size wise, small groups is best. I wouldn’t try more than 3 tents. It was totally perfect for us. Overall, it was a gorgeous and intimate camping spot, and we felt so incredibly welcome.
