Welcome to Buckhorn Camps, a historic off-grid retreat on 332 private acres of Jo-Mary Island in Maine’s legendary Katahdin region. Surrounded by the pristine waters of Lower and Middle Jo-Mary Lakes, this one-of-a-kind wilderness destination offers a rare chance to truly unplug, slow down, and reconnect with what matters most. Accessible only by boat or floatplane, Buckhorn feels worlds away from modern life—yet it welcomes you with warmth, comfort, and authentic Maine hospitality. Days begin with the sunrise glistening over the lake and the haunting call of loons echoing through the mist. Nights end beneath a brilliant dark sky, where stars feel close enough to touch. The property features five rustic housekeeping cabins, each equipped with kitchens and private bathrooms, plus one bunkhouse with a bathroom and one true bunkhouse for overflow accommodations. Together, these spaces comfortably host up to 24 guests, blending traditional Maine charm with the simplicity of off-grid living. It’s the perfect setting for family gatherings, group getaways, creative retreats, or small corporate teams looking to recharge in nature. Adventure and serenity flow naturally here. Spend your days canoeing or kayaking through quiet coves, fishing for trout, salmon, or bass, or hiking forest trails beneath towering evergreens. Try forest bathing, a mindful immersion in nature, or simply rest by the campfire as loons call across the water. Wildlife is abundant—moose, deer, eagles, and songbirds remind you that this is true wilderness. And did we mention? We’re just a few miles from the Appalachian Trail, offering easy access to one of Maine’s most iconic outdoor experiences. At Buckhorn Camps, you’ll trade Wi-Fi for wonder and hurry for harmony. Whether you come seeking adventure, stillness, or reconnection, you’ll find that this off-grid island retreat awakens something timeless. Unplug. Reconnect. Remember what matters most. Buckhorn Camps – Experience a Maine Tradition.
