The view from this campsite truly was stunning! So glad Darcee was able to accommodate us this past weekend. I'll echo all the other reviews by saying the spot is very private yet close to Galena. Best of both worlds. We will definitely be back to this site again if they continue to rent it out on Hipcamp!

I loved the views from this little piece of heaven. My daughter loved the fact that we were secluded and still felt safe. I would recommend it to my friends and family. Make sure you prepare yourself for going to the bathroom under the stars!!😳😳😁

We had a great experience camping two nights here! Beautiful scenery and plenty of area to hike and explore (both at the site and also a very short drive away). Site is private, and though there are nearby houses/buildings, you really feel like you are alone and secluded. If you need any additional supplies, gas stations and Walmart are about a 10 min drive away. We would definitely visit again!

we spent 2 nights car camping at Galena River Ranch and it was one of the most beautiful sites that we have camped at. There is only one site, so there is total privacy and quiet. It is only 10 minutes from Galena so we visited it with all the crowds, had a lovely dinner and then returned to our campsite to watch the beautiful sunset over the Mississippi River Valley in total peace. Heavenly!

Beautiful View of the Mississippi River valley! Well manicured site, nice hammock spot, good sun for solar, and very close to Galena. The gnats were a nuisance until we found the right spray and then they left us alone.

Beautiful and private camp site with amazing sunsets. A couple of good shade trees to give you cover. Ground is perfect for staking tents. There were some noises from a nearby train, but otherwise felt engulfed in nature. I would stay here again.

It's safe to say the view is spectacular! The area is private as well. The fire pit was a good size and the tree was perfect for shade!
The only semi negative thing (which is also not the host's fault) is that the bugs were pretty bad, we ended up going to the store to buy citronella candles but then it was just fine.

We tent camped for 3 nights here (a couple & two dogs) and it was exactly what he had hoped for. Extremely private. Quiet. Beautiful view of the valley toward the river with stunning sunsets. Our dogs could run freely in the open without worry of bothering other people or others bothering us. There’s a ton of room. A nice fire pit. Even a wrought iron table/chairs and a little seat for front of the fire pit. Town (Galena) is less than a 15 min drive if you need to replenish ice or firewood or dispose of trash. We cooked great meals around the fire. Saw deer. Heard an owl and packs of coyotes-distantly at night. The ground is good and solid for rent stakes. Our pop up canopy did come in handy since once the sun clears the trees you’re pretty much at its mercy until sunset. We did not hear road traffic noise of any sort. There were a few small airplanes that zoomed back and forth across the valley but it was rather fun to watch. We would definitely come back again.

Darcee’s property is a great place for boondocking and only a short drive from Downtown Galena. We especially enjoyed how quiet and private it was. I would suggest brining bug spray. Would definitely stay again!

Darcee's land was the perfect place to set up camp for a few days with my kids. It was quiet and peaceful and the sunsets are spectacular as you look over the Mississippi River valley. Being only a few miles from Galena was great too. Easy to find a few good spots to eat and plenty around the area to do with the kids -- we did the local Alpine Slide. Thanks again to Darcee and her family for letting us stay with them this past weekend.

The view was breathtaking. It is close enough to downtown Galena if you want to go into the city but far enough that the site feels secluded and in the rolling hills. The only downside was that it is a complete pack-in/pack-out campsite. I would've preferred a site with a port-a-potty or a site to bury human waste. That was my fault for not checking before I booked because it is clearly stated on the listing.

What a wonderful way to experience a break away from the city. Minutes away from the bustle of tourist life and Main Street. Stunning views of prairie and plains along with a small peek of the Mississippi River. We also experienced night sky stars, bats feasting on gnats lightning bugs (holy lightning bugs) and distant howls of coyotes and wild dogs. The site is private, safe, clean has an outdoor dining table, a large slab of limestone that we used as storage and an awesome fire pit. When you are quiet, you can experience various Midwestern birds, strange insects, different spiders, dragonflies, large beetles, and lime green caterpillars. Our kids first day of Summer break and we are so grateful to have had this experience in Galena, Illinois. We recommend this gem of a camping spot.

Perfect Solo Camping Adventure!

This was a really lovely site and I would definitely recommend it to anyone! Super close to Main Street in Galena, but far enough away that you can really enjoy the nature and solitude. It was perfect for my first solo camping trip with my two dogs. They had a great time chasing each other around the site. The sunset over the Mississippi River Valley was truly unparalleled. I didn't stay out late enough to see what the stars looked like though! Hopefully next time!
A few things to note, not at all negatives, just observations from my stay.
- You can hear mild traffic noises and trains throughout the day and night
- There are a couple visible houses through the trees. Not visible enough to interrupt my solitude but something I noticed.
- It's absolutely gorgeous!! But, there are not really any trails to explore the surrounding land. At the time we went everything but the site was very tall prairie grass.

Beautiful site!
Darcee was super responsive and her property was amazing. Super private, easy access to Galena and the surrounding areas, and amazing views (especially the sunset!). We will definitely be back as long as the spot remains listed! So happy she has shared the spot.

Great spot to get away! Wonderful view with lots of wildlife to watch. Close to a Main Street, just a few minute drive. Will definitely stay again!

We really enjoyed our stay at this campsite! Beautiful views of the valley, great fire pit and best part is that its private so we had it all to ourselves. We were able to enjoy some spectacular sunsets!

A very quiet spot with a great view, perfect for a calm weekend getaway. Not much opportunity for hiking or other activities directly from the campsite, but there’s plenty in the surrounding area. The view over the Mississippi valley is stunning!
