Best campsite I have ever camped
I really enjoyed Les and Renee's place. It's a complete space with a spacious grassy area, a private outdoor shower, indoor restrooms, a refrigerator, stovetop, cookware, and a very clean indoor living room. Most importantly, they have a love for the land. I especially appreciate how they share their culture with travellers, like the taro surrounding the campsite, which is a great example. Les was also eager to share many stories about this land and their way of life. Thanks to his recommendation, I participated in the Waipi'o tour held in this Valley, which was my favourite tour of the whole trip. The tour guide (sorry, I forgot your name) had an incredible knowledge of history, culture, and nature, from stories of their ancestors and the impact of several tsunamis to the ongoing struggles between the valley and the government. Every piece of knowledge is rooted in his love for this land and respect for his ancestors' way of life. I really, really enjoyed this tour ($69) and the land.
