Rainbow’s End was truly one of the highlights of my time on the Big Island. Staying in the treehouse felt like a little hidden sanctuary tucked up in the trees. I loved falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of birds singing and the leaves dancing in the breeze—it was incredibly peaceful. The bed was so comfortable, and the mosquito net let you enjoy the open-air treehouse experience without any unwanted visitors.
The whole property has such a warm, welcoming, and laid-back vibe. The shared spaces had everything I needed, and it felt like the perfect balance of nature, comfort, and community. It was also an amazing home base for exploring, with easy access to South Point and Volcanoes National Park, and such a relaxing place to come back to after a full day of adventure.
Such a special, unique place that really captures the spirit of the island. I’m so grateful for the experience and already know where I’ll be staying the next time I visit. 🌿🌈✨

I stayed in the treehouse and it was an incredible experience during my stay on The Big Island. I loved listening to the sounds of the island as I fell asleep and the bug net kept out any visitors as I slept. The communal space had everything you could need and I loved how open everything was. It truly was a special part of the island to stay in and was a great launching pad for getting to any of the south point beaches and to the volcano National Park. I enjoyed the people I met while staying here, and would do it again if I had the chance.

Wendy's place was a slice of paradise wrapped inside a full serving of paradise. Like any holiday there were a few hiccups , but Wendy was in full contact and we were treated as if it were our home . We will be back .
The only real problem that could be resolved would be the cats prowling around . I counted 5 that came around regularly looking to be fed.

We enjoyed our comfy bed and deck perch in the jungle. The open kitchen was lovely to cook in. Wendy was away, but communication was excellent, and the caretakers were available, helpful and welcoming. We were driving a Honda Fit with very low clearance, so we drove the rocky road VERY slowly, and planned to come and go only once a day (we spent two nights). I would stay there again for sure, but only if I had a vehicle with higher clearance.

We loved staying at Wendy’s! She was an incredibly generous host and communicated really well. As soon as we landed in Kona, she let us know that a volcano was fountaining, told us to head straight there, and had no issues with our late check-in as a result! Literally a once in a lifetime opportunity we would have missed if not for Wendy.
The space itself was beautiful. Wendy’s property is gorgeous and she gave us a lovely tour of all the fruit trees she’s planted. The little cabin we stayed in was cozy and we loved having breakfast out in the deck. If we’re ever in the area again, we’d stay at Wendy’s in a heartbeat.

I loved treehouse living at Rainbow’s End. This is my happy place! Waking up to birds talking, surrounded by greenery and trees, in a (very) comfortable bed (with mosquito net) is one of my very favorite things. Super relaxing, great getaway. I will definitely be back! Thank you! ♥️🌈

I hate to write a negative review of this place. There is clearly lots of effort in this place, Wendy was nice through the phone, and they had an incident so the caretakers had to leave. But our experience just wasn't very good.
Main thing: the place was dirty. There was poop everywhere. The bed cover, pillows, nightstands, every horizontal surface had poop. Probably gecko droppings, but we didn't know if anything else (bat, rodent). Wendy told us where to find fresh sheets and we changed them, but still couldn't trust any other surface in there until disinfected.
We expected, from the pictures, that there would be a mosquito net. But there wasn't any. There were mosquitos waking us up, so we had to apply repellent regularly throughout the night - not just at sunset or sunrise.
Lastly, the bathroom doesn't have a door. The little sheet covering the entrance flies in the wind. It was fine while we were alone in the property, but cannot imagine how it is with when all three rooms are occupied.

We loved staying at Wendy’s. We were welcomed by Camille and it felt actually like staying with a friend. The whole property is beautifully designed and the treehouse is a special place to stay in with all the sounds of nature and ocean breeze. It is close to the awe inspiring green sand beach, a black sand beach with green turtles, a great bakery, and around 1 hours from the volcano park.
Just be aware that it is an open space and my 6 feet husband had a tight fit under the mosquito net. We had no issues arriving at the property following the host’s instructions (with a Jeep).

What stood out to me was that Wendy’s place is one of a kind. It is legit. It is old Hawaii. I fell immediately at home in the common areas. The treehouse was pure magic. The road was rocky to get in but well worth it! Truly, a hidden treasure. Not many places in the world left like this one! We will be back.

This was a wonderful launching point to visit Green Sand Beach (which we had to ourselves for half hr one morning) and Southpoint. Close to Volcanos, we got to see Kilauea erupt the morning after we departed. Truly a magical trip for us. Rowan was a great host and answered all our questions. It had everything we needed, plus a perfect tiny pig. Thanks Rowan!

The tree house was fantastic and the property is beautiful. Do yourself and your vehicle a favor and follow the directions provided by the host through Hipcamp. Google maps seems to have adventure in mind with its directions!

A very lovely, beautiful, quiet glamping experience. It was nice to sleep in an actual bed with power outlets, and look out into the rainforest. It’s close to punalu’u beach, one of the best snorkeling spots/black sand beaches in Hawaii, filled with seat turtles and fish, and a short ride from the incredibly unique greensand beaches trailhead.
It was nice to have a stove, cooking equipment, and a fridge to use!

Such a beautiful treehouse that we stayed in. Waking up there was amazing and magical. Rowan the host was so helpful and kind. Make sure you double check that your gps has the correct location since Apple Maps was tricky!

Beautiful and peaceful place. Outdoor kitchen area and bathroom were very nice. The host was very friendly and kind. The drive is a bit rough but we did it in a sedan and it was fine. Thank you!

Great little cabin for nature’s lovers! We were cozy and private. You have everything you need and the balcony his a highlight. The only thing is the road to get there is very rough. I recommend a SUV for peace of mind, however we managed to do it with the rental Dodge Charger we had.

Arcanum was a great host. Super friendly and has lots of info on spots on the island to check out. The space is super peaceful and chill. Would love to try out the treehouse next time. It was a little further back in so if you are going for a little more private the treehouse might be your vibe.

Lucked out and ended being the only guest there during my 3 night stay. Arcanum even spent a day showing me to different local spots. Truly enjoyed the daily conversation, stories and local tips from him.
Was worried about staying this far from the 2 major cities but it was actually perfect. Good middle point that I could drive to either city and not have it take the entire day.
Tree house was amazing! Falling asleep to the breeze and waking up to the birds was amazing. It stormed 1 of the nights and I was surprisingly dry. Didn’t feel a single drop of rain. Fair warning though, the rain did get loud on the roof but I didn’t mind, I still found it relaxing. They have curtains hanging if you want to use those but I didn’t. There’s also a mosquito net you can put up but I didn’t and was fine. Theres 2 other buildings but the trees made the space feel private and hidden. You do walk past the other 2 to get to the tree house so I feel tree house is best for privacy.
Keep in mind this is hip camp. Other than the cabin, the tree house and the communal space are open spaces. You’re in nature and there will be critters. Mainly geckos. Not too different if you were actually camping. Cats and chickens on property.
It is off-grid(ish). They have solar for power, running water, compost toilet and a shower. Service was decent on my phone. Only MINOR complaint was the sheets but not enough to make it unpleasant. Still slept like a baby.
If renting a car, higher clearance is better.

“We had a wonderful stay at Wendy’s! Our host, Arcanum was fantastic, and the spot was incredibly private. The hot shower was a nice touch, and while we didn’t use the communal kitchen, it was great to have the option. This spot is conveniently located to some great spots to south point, black sand beach, and the volcanos. Just a heads up, the road in is a bit rough, but manageable even with a sedan. We drove in with an SUV, which made it a bit easier.”
