Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home at some sites—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Nestled on the scenic North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, Maleka Farm offers an oasis for travelers seeking respite and adventure. Located in close proximity to the Polynesian Cultural Center, Kahuku Food Trucks, and Shrimp Farms, guests can immerse themselves in the diverse culture and vibrant food scene of the island. Just a short walk away lies the beach, inviting visitors to bask in the sun, swim in the ocean, or enjoy a leisurely stroll along the shoreline. We have a restroom facility that includes 4 private bathrooms. Each with their own shower, toilet and sink. There is warm/Hot water for the showers but it is not guaranteed as supply is limited and it’s an off-grid facility. The restroom facility is shared with other guests on Maleka Farm. We collect rain water for our shower, toilet, and sink, and use solar panels for electricity. SUGGESTION: Check the weather report in advance to ensure that you are prepared for any weather conditions that could occur. Hawaii's rainy season is from October-March. Keep in mind that Hawaii is a tropical island so be prepared for mosquitoes and other insects. There is a higher chance of mud during the rainy season as well. Hiking Trails: Maleka Farm provides easy access to a variety of hiking trails in the town of Laie and surrounding areas. Some popular trails in the vicinity include: Laie Summit Trail, Ma'akua Ridge Trail, Laie Falls Trail, Malaekahana Falls Trail Local Attractions: In addition to the mesmerizing mountain views, Laie and its surrounding areas offer a variety of attractions such as the Polynesian Cultural Center, an immersive cultural experience showcasing the traditions and history of the Pacific Islands. Hukilau Cafe is 0.3 miles down the street (have you seen the movie 50 First Dates? One of the scenes is based on the cafe). For more food and shopping options, 2 miles down the road is Kahuku Food Trucks market. You can also visit nearby beaches for swimming, snorkeling, or simply basking in the sun.🗺️ Off-Grid Cabin w/ Mountain View’s•Walk to Beach•Hiker’s Basecamp 🏕️This off-grid cabin sleeps 1–2 and is nestled on Oʻahu’s scenic North Shore, just a short walk (<1 mile) to the beach and minutes from the Polynesian Cultural Center. Enjoy warm showers, lush mountain views and nearby trails for hiking ⚠️NOTE: This is not a luxury resort—it’s a rugged, back-to-nature experience. Expect bugs, geckos, and the occasional rainstorm. Ideal for travelers craving nature, simplicity and adventure. This simple accommodation creates a distraction free space to reconnect. The "summer camp" set up, memory foam twin XL bunk beds is the perfect place to create memories. Bring the campfire stories and we'll provide everything else. You’ll love peering over the banana trees and watching the sun disappear beyond the mountain. There is incredible stargazing at this site. To top off your vacation bliss, the cabin is just a half mile from the beach! What to Expect: ⛺️Cabin: Two Twin XL’s with room to store luggage on top. Solar powered string lights, a guide book, towels, camping cookware, and picnic area for reminiscing about the days adventure. There is no electricity inside the cabin. 🦎Geckos Inside the Cabin – These friendly little lizards are part of Hawaiian life. You’ll likely see them on walls or ceilings. They're harmless and actually help control insects, but if you're not used to wildlife, it's something to consider 🚽Shared Off‑Grid Bathhouse: Solar powered w/ outlets, flushing toilets, warm showers but no potable water. The water is gathered primarily through rain catchment and guests should be conservative with their water use. 🐜Wildlife & Insects: Nature plays host to local critters—frogs, geckos, chickens and yes, mosquitoes, and ants—so please don’t be surprised if you see them. We do our best with treating the surrounding areas to keep bugs to a minimal. We ask you to clean up after yourselves and seal/close any leftover food to help keep the insects to a minimum. We cannot control the weather and we cannot control the bugs. 🌦️SUGGESTION: Check the weather report in advance to ensure that you are prepared for any weather conditions that could occur. Bring any bug repellent that you might need. Hawaii's rainy season is from October-March.
