This was a unique stay on an animal rescue property — not open to the public — which I thought would be a fun and educational experience for my kids. The hosts were proactive about sending the gate code, but there’s no signage, so it was unclear we were in the right place. The tour was great and featured some rare animals, but scheduling was confusing. I was told to wait until arrival to book it, and then we had to wait hours after check-in.
There were no clear instructions about where on the property we were welcome, and with three young boys, I didn’t feel comfortable letting them roam. It’s an active rescue and working farm, but there wasn’t any designated space for kids to play.
The tiny house was charming but very hot when we arrived (over 80°), and it took hours to cool. One of the two TVs didn’t work, and I didn’t get a reply when I messaged about it. The fold-out couch was uncomfortable (okay for kids), and there were no extra blankets provided. The kitchenette had basics like a hot plate and fridge, but no dish soap, oil, or seasonings. Also, there weren’t many photos of the cabin beforehand, so I wasn’t sure what to pack.
Overall, I support what they’re doing with the animals, and the tour made the trip worth it. Just go in with realistic expectations, especially if you’re bringing 4 people.
