Awesome Hipcamp!

The campsite was perfect for us—having electricity was such a bonus! We had a nice, level spot for our Class B RV, plus plenty of space for our kids’ tent and their car. (Finally a campsite with true privacy). The views were fabulous, and at night we were treated to a stunning sky—we even saw the Milky Way! One of the highlights was getting a visit from some friendly cows from a neighboring property—we loved it! It was also such a treat having Alex share stories with us—he’s delightful. And to have him come up in the morning with hot-out-of-the-oven lemon muffins his lovely wife had just made… just incredible! Wow!!!! -The muffins were absolutely amazing!! Their land and hospitality were truly awesome. They made our stay so special. We highly recommend this Hipcamp and are already looking forward to coming back!

A very enjoyable experience. Mary Anne and Alex are very friendly and accommodating. The pull-thru site was great for our 29ft 5th- wheel. Plenty of room and options for setting up. Mary Anne's muffins were a wonderful treat! Also, hummingbirds! Lots around their garden, but we managed to lure one or two away to our feeder. Very close proximity to the Newlin creek trailhead. A very nice, mostly shaded walk. 3 miles one way to the Herrick sawmill ruins, but continues onward if you desire. Highly recommend. We would like to return.

Beautiful spot. I had intented on staying two days, but it was so serene & scenic I stayed three. Mary Anne & Alex were wonderful hosts. Nice space to walk up thru the juniper forest toward the mountain. Great view of Pike's Peak in the distance. Beautiful sunrise & sunset & decent dark skies at the site with electricity altho there was a bit of light from Florence obscuring the sky to the North. The other sites on the property are more secluded & have better blockage of the city lights. The muffins? large & gourmet quality! The road may feel a little rough, but its fairly flat & straight even in the remotest parts. Drive slowly & your patience will be rewarded :)

This was a great, easy getaway with our pop-up camper and 6-year old son. The hosts were truly lovely, welcoming, and friendly people. The site with electric is not "remote" - houses, machinery, and a large pile of scrap wood are in view - but we weren't expecting remote so it didn't bother us. It was a nice, flat spot with trees for shade. Great opportunities for exploring the property and beyond. We'll come back!

Coffee & Muffins at the Hill Fort

Returned for another enjoyable stay at the Hill Fort! This time I had a very pleasant visit with Mary Anne and Alex who treated me to an excellent Cubano coffee and truly delicious homemade lemon poppy seed muffins! Great hosts in a beautiful location

We loved our stay at the Hill Fort! We had a secluded site nestled in the piñon juniper forest where we camped with deer, wild turkeys, foxes, and great horned owls among gorgeous sunsets and moon rises. Our hosts were friendly and accommodating. One of our favorite Hipcamp sites so far. Best for self-contained campers, and a great site, especially for spring and fall.

My second camping trip to Mary Anne’s land. This time I camped at the far camp spot at the end of the property. No electric but didn’t need it. So quiet and peaceful and a night sky filled with stars. My dogs and hiked at the Newlin Creek trail which is in San Isabel NF just a few miles down the road from the property. Can’t wait to book my third trip!

This is one of our favorite Hipcamp sites. The space itself was the perfect amount of private-yet we could walk down and grab coffee with the hosts as well. They were super helpful and lovely people. Beautiful property, lovely views, and plenty of space for our pups to explore. We will be back!

Beauty, quiet, and stars!

I choose Hipcamp over State Parks because I like to have a remote and quiet place to camp. Beautiful views, access to great hiking trails, quiet, and a dark sky full of stars are also on my hope to have list. The Hillfort provided all of it! I had a shaded secluded camping spot with electrical hookup and surrounded by the beautiful Wet Mountains. My two dogs were very welcome and loved exploring the property every morning. Just two miles away is access to the Newlin Creek trailhead and the San Isabel National Forest as well as other hiking trails near by. Mary Anne and Alex were great hosts and loved sharing the history of their beautiful property (plus Mary Anne’s muffins are amazing). I will definitely be booking more trips to the Hillfort!

A Wonderful Stay At The Hillfort!

Let me start by saying that this was our first HipCamp and we think we may have hit the pinnacle on our first try as this place is so beautiful! The road that you need to travel in on is a little rough, even though it was paved most of the way, however, MaryAnne suggested for us to go slow and that turned out to be great advice. In the end, we had no issues getting our 28' 5th wheel trailer to their property. MaryAnne & Alex greated us upon arrival and drove us out to select our site. There are 5 sites total all spaced nicely. The site we chose was site #2 which is a little bigger and was the best for accommodating our camper. They had just mowed all the sites and paths on the property and the views of the San Isabel mountains are amazing from any site you decide to stay at. Alex & MaryAnne were also fun to converse with and were very helpful in recommending things to see in the area. There is actually a beautiful little trail just down the road from the property called the Newlin Creek trail at the Florence Mountain Park that runs up the mountain along the creek. Another incredible must see in the area is Bishop Castle which is a 160' tall castle that was built by one man (Jim Bishop) over a period of 60 years. The nearby small town of Florence has quite a few restaurants and other conveniences. And of course another big attraction in the area is The Royal Gorge Bridge & park that is just north of Canon City. Enjoy!

Great stay

This place was a wonderful place to stay and get away from hustle and bustle. Beautiful views of Pikes Peak, smell of cedar trees, turkey and deer walked close to us and beautiful night skies. Alex and Mary Anne were wonderful hosts.

My husband and I were looking for somewhere to crash for the night after a long race in Pueblo and Mary Anne’s place was just the right spot. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the warm welcome from Mary Anne and her husband. My only regret is not being able to stay longer and grab some of the muffins Marry Anne had offered us.

Camping with a special touch!

If you are an off-the-beaten path kind of camper, this is the place for you! Tucked back in away from the world, this is a peaceful spot with amazing views and a great place to spend a few days. We came with our small travel trailer, parked at the only electric site, and had a beautiful long weekend. Very quiet and relaxing. Mary Anne and Alex are the super nice folks and also wonderful Hipcamp hosts! The homemade lemon poppyseed muffins were a delicious morning treat made with love and care by Mary Anne!

Great Views and Fun People!

We had an absolutely wonderful time at The Hillfort! The land is just gorgeous and offers some pretty incredible views, day and night! Mary Anne was just a wonderful hostess and her muffins were to die for! My car battery ended up dying while we stayed there and Alex was so amazingly nice about giving my car a jump…twice! I honestly cannot wait to go back!

Could not have asked for more!

Such wonderful hosts and an amazing property. We were there for the weekend after Labor Day so we had the whole place to ourselves, but the sites seemed far enough apart to still have privacy if others were there as well. Easy access, clean and cleared just enough to be able to set up camp either in an open space or amongst the trees, with lovely 360º views. And the muffins were an amazingly delicious added surprise - Mary Ann doesn't mess around! It is a perfect oasis with the added bonus of not having to fight mountain traffic on I-70, we will definitely be back again!
