Cool spot, there was no moon light so I probably saw more stars than I have ever seen before. Spot was easy to find with the directions given, don’t let maps route it for you.

This is a very remote place, to a point I gave up trying to find it and turned around. Certainly a beautiful part of Colorado, just frustrating. I am an experienced camper (in a new class b van). After about 45 mins trying to follow the directions, was getting too close to dusk, so I left.

Beautiful, remote spot with endless views. There is a well-stocked pit stop 20 min away with gas, bathrooms, a saloon/restaurant, etc. We’ve stayed at this property two years in a row and will keep going back. Note that it does get windy in these geographic areas, but we camp in a teardrop so that isn’t as big a concern for us. We drive to the reservoir down the road and into Buena Vista for day trips.

Guys RV weekend

We loved RVing on Sarah's land. Before the clouds rolled in, we saw the majestic views. There were other RV's on other parcels of land. However they were so spread out, it was complete stillness. Unfortunately, due to the weather it wasn't a night for star gazing. But if it was clear, this would've been the place. Great proximity to all things outdoors.

Directions were great and were able to find the campsite even arriving in the middle of the night. Waking up the next morning to the breath-taking views was an incredible experience. Even though it was just a pit stop was such an amazing site so peaceful and quiet.

It was nice and quiet , we had cows visiting , just look for the sign post 1/4 mile in because there is no street sign on the post. We would go back again.

Big Sky Vibes!

We loved our Memorial weekend stay on this land. Booked at the last minute and had no issues finding the spot. It was nice and flat which made for easy RV setup with open pasture land all around us. The dogs loved it! When it wasn’t windy, we took full advantage of a campfire and some stargazing, and the Hartsel skies did not disappoint! We have TMobile and had a few bars out here which was great to check on weather and trails nearby. All in all it was a great trip.

Beautiful private and peaceful land

This camp site was private a little difficult to find because one of the side streets isn’t labeled but it is private no trees and neighbors seemed upset when we asked them if we were in the right area she made sure to let us know they weren’t happy to have people camping next door but we weren’t loud we were respectful while we were there. This land was peaceful. Some signage would be helpful to locate the property. But I would recommend if you are looking for complete privacy. We rented both lands to have more privacy.

I had the best night camping at Soonzapunk in my van. Even without real roads to get to the land for the last 1/2 mile or so, it was so easy to find, with fun street signs standing all alone in the middle of wide open spaces. It was a little windy, but I was able to start a campfire safely and with no problem. It was absolutely silent, with gorgeous stars and an incredible sunrise. I felt safe, solitary and at peace. The land was clear and very clean, easy to access and well located just outside of Fairplay. I slept like a baby!

Beautiful Colorado Prairie

Great communication and the site is exactly as described. Easy to find with descriptions and GPS. The dirt road was no problem at all. The site itself comes with privacy and a view over the distant mountains. Intense night sky on clear nights. On windy days of course you’d have less protection from the winds (factor for tents). I’d choose the site again when in the area.

Second time back, still awesome

This was my second time back to ded tick and once again, it was awesome. Ded Tick is great if you want QUIET, and big sky, all about two hours away from downtown Denver. This would also be a great place for gravel biking. Some notes for new campers.... When you take county rd 53, you'll come up to an almost 45 degree 'fork' with a sign for (I believe) Shawnee trail. Go RIGHT to stay on 53. Both ded tick lots are separated from the road by drainage ditches. If you've never come, and plan to bring either a trailer or car, arrive when it's still light so that you can find an ideal spot to drive onto the lot. The simplest is to enter Ded Tick South via it's "driveway", and then drive through the lots until you get to North. The "driveway" is found by driving PAST Athapascan rd for about 100 feet, you will see on the left what looks like a trail into the lot, there is no culvert at this point. Finally, t-mobile coverage was fair. Last time I visited, I had AT&T, and coverage was very good.

Super remote!

So, are you hankering for remote, wide open space? Then this is your place!! As the description says, bring everything you need here (including some wood fuel for your Kelly Kettle if you have one - you won't find a twig around here!). Access from the town of Hartsel is via a very rough and bumpy dirt road - wasn't much fun in a vehicle, but it would have been fine on my adventure motorcycle. There's so little activity here you might try a little Naturism if the spirit moves you! I didn't see any ticks - Ded or Alive; but plenty of mosquitoes, so don't forget repellent. I was blessed with cloudy skies and thunderstorms in the area the evening I arrived - I couldn't believe how pleasantly cool it was for the end of July. And the pitter-patter of a gentle rain as I went to sleep was just heaven! Homing in on the site was no problem with the host's directions (and a little sense of direction!). There is a little abandoned corral-looking thing on the edge of Athapascan Road to orient you on the property. I camped just south of this structure to make sure I was in the South area I reserved. All in all, this made for a very pleasant stopping point not very far at all off my route north...though next time I would like to come out on the bike!

Great location and very private! Going down the dirt roads at 3 am to get to a 14ner was bit sketchy but not terrible. The view of the stars was incredible, probably due to the very minimal light pollution!

Great isolated dispersed camping

Best prairie camping! The mountain views were stunning and it was so peaceful. The wide open space with literally nobody else around was exactly what I was looking for (and my dogs also loved it). I’d recommend bringing a canopy if you’re planning to hang at the site during the day, so that you have shade if the weather is sunny and hot.

Beautiful plot of land for camping

We had the best time at this campsite! So much space the the views were gorgeous everywhere we looked. The sunsets were beautiful. The land itself was also very nice - grassy and comfortable for sleeping in tents. It’s a fairly easy drive from a few small towns in case you need anything and plenty of space for cars. We would absolutely go back!

We came here with our friends and our little kids from Denver and had a great time! Lots of open space for kids to roam around. It did get windy and weather changed quickly so be aware of that.

Seclusion

Seclusion, minus the occasional pronghorn and shooting star. The pup had plenty of room to roam and there is a relatively flat area to park or setup a tent for the night. A gem for those who love the above to include expansive views of the prairies with the mountains in the background.

Private stargazing at its best

We stayed at this location with our Ford Transit conversion van, and it was beautiful! We booked both sites to ensure our privacy (after a day around people, my wife and I wanted to just isolate) - and boy was it isolated/private! After about a 40-45 minute slow drive on dirt roads, we found the location with the aid of the location picture and set up camp for the night. Beautiful, unobstructed views of the sky offered some of the best star gazing of our trip, and there was only the slightest road noise from US-24. We would absolutely stay here again!

I had to drive down over a 5 mile dirt road that was just extremely bumpy while pulling a camper. When I finally found the site, or at least I think I did, I could not pull off the road without damaging my truck and camper. I just pulled to the side of the road and left as soon as I woke up. It was beautiful and would be ideal for tent camping.

Best view of the stars

Dirt roads for a few miles lead you to a spacious ranch with incredible prairie and Mountain views (I’m from Ohio). Look for tire tracks and a pile of rocks and that’s where you camp. We were here in September - so it was a little dry and dusty - but a statewide fire ban prevented us from having a fire anyways. No noise at all. The sunset views were very pretty and the vastness was really relaxing. Since you’re still reading I will include the best part of this space and that is the STARS at night. I’ve never seen the stars like I did at Soonzapunk!

Better than expected. Nice spot at the end of the road and location is great on how the land is situated. The small hill on the back side of the land blocks everything out and feels more secluded. Perfect spot for watching the sun set and the stars at night. Lots of room to spread out and even had a few cows come by. Spot checks all the boxes as far as secluded, lots of room, peaceful, and easy to get to.
