This campsite was amazing! We had incredible views and a wonderful evening and morning of camping. My partner and I both agreed it’s one of the best sites we’ve ever camped at, and we will absolutely be back!

Magical Campsite

The campsite was absolutely beautiful!! There was access to a couple hiking trails at the top so we were able to explore the area. We drove up from Tincup on the way in and it made for a bumpy ride. On our way down we went through Pitkin and the road was much smoother. There were sparse trees at the top of Cumberland Pass and it was a little windy, but other than that the weather was great in early August. Tony is a great host and made us feel super welcome!

Best views, crazy drive.

Amazing views! Probably the coolest campsite we’ve been to. However, if you’re planning to leave and drive elsewhere during the day it took us a full hour each way just to get up the trail to the campsite. We had a Suburu Forester with AWD and only saw 4 wheel drive cars. It was tricky in certain places and remote. We were the only ones on site. Decided to only stay one night to avoid the drive a second time.

This was my dogs annual Fourth of July weekend trip and we couldn't have been happier. The spot was breathtaking beautiful and well worth the drive to.

I couldn’t get to the campsite. The road to it was not regular car accessible and we and to turn around after being told our car wouldn’t make it.

Difficult to reach

This is not a road made for a vehicle that isn't specifically designed for off-roading. The road to the campsite is narrow, incredibly rocky and filled with obstacles (downed trees, potholes, and large boulders). 4wheel is necessary, but not guaranteed to get you to the site. The road is about 3-4 miles long. My bronco was damaged badly from attempting to reach the campsite.

Absolutely beautiful but exposed

Absolutely beautiful spot and good level ground for camping. We have a small tear drop trailer, which made a little slow going up the pass from Tincup, but very doable with capable vehicle and trailer. Only knock would be these sites are at the very top of the pass, which leaves a lot of exposure to wind.

Beautiful views, incredible host!

This was our first experience with Hipcamp and it couldn’t have been better. unfortunately, we got bad weather conditions on our way up to Colorado and Anthony was the sweetest and most helpful host that we could’ve asked for he waited for us to arrive to the bottom of the mountain in his car and as soon as we got there at about 7:30 PM, he guided us to a safe place where we could spend the night and gave really detailed directions. We woke up to the mountains covered in snow and had a beautiful morning. I can’t wait to go back into to know Tony more.

Best camping spot to date

Camping on top of the pass was an unforgettable experience. When Anthony told us it had the "best view in Colorado," I was a bit skeptical, thinking he might be overselling it. But after spending a night there, I can confidently say he wasn’t. My husband and I traveled through Rocky Mountain National Park, Aspen, and Gunnison, and while all of those places were stunning, camping at the pass was the highlight of our trip. The sunset & sunrise from the top were breathtaking. At night, the stars were the most brilliant I’ve ever experienced, and the stillness up there made it feel like we were the only people on the planet. The views from the top were our favorite of the entire trip, and I can't imagine a better spot to camp. Highly recommend!🌄

What a beautiful campsite ! We had most of the whole site to ourselves. Beautiful views and lots of space. Takes some time to get to the top of the pass but it was worth it. Would love to go again

Epic place! Thankful for this place after our other plans fell through. Amazing star gazing and incredible views. We were scheduled for spot three however after only finding 1,2,4, and 5 we settled in at 1 with nobody else around. Only thing better would have been to stay longer.

We couldn't make it because of the road to get there and also it started snowing on the way up. We camped for free on the base somewhere closer to tincup. Our truck wasn't made for that intense off roading apparently . However the location is great for side by side and jeeps!

The view left us absolutely speechless. All of the sites were well maintained and spread out enough to allow for privacy. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would recommend Anthony’s property to others without hesitation.

Camping here is truly an experience. Getting up Cumberland Pass needs to be taken with a lot of patience. Can you get up there with a normal car? Probably. Should you? Depends how confident you are in off roading. I got up fine in an all stock 2020 Kia Sportage AWD with all season tires. But it took a while to make sure I didn’t blow my tires or bottom out. Now for the site: If you want views, especially a starry night sky, I’m not sure you can do better than this. It was truly an amazing experience being able to see the Milky Way with my naked eye. For the mixed feelings, the listing is incorrect in listing a toilet. I messaged Anthony before booking asking about it so I was prepared. But keep that in mind. All the sites are also incredibly rocky and some not so level. If you’re car camping you’ll be fine with the rocks. Tent camping might be hard to find a smooth spot, or make one yourself. Site 2 was incredibly hard to get our cars level. I was able to make do okay being slanted but also keep that in mind. I love this location and plan to be back sometime this summer. The cost to stay is pretty expensive for a primitive camp site. Being able to camp with these views is an experience. I would do it again and would recommend anyone to camp here at least once, but some might be put off by the high cost for a location with 0 amenities.

Really awesome spot, especially for the views but it is very windy, at least before dark. I would recommend site 3 or 2 to hide from the wind. Easy to get to, the road is just a little rough but you could make it in a camry.

Amazing views, solitude, awesome spot. This was my second stay here and loved it. Great spot to check out the stars. The road is a little bumpy/rocky, but went slow without issues.

Definitely a bit of a trip to get up here, but once you do, you really feel like you're out of the way. Stars were gorgeous and I cowboy camped just for that!

Beautiful area but never made it to the campsite! Road was too rough! I have a 4 wheel drive SUV but got a rock in my tire or something worse and I had to camp in a turnout with a fire pit. Then slowly drive down to tin cup the next day.

In so many ways, this could be an absolute 5 star spot! Here are the great attributes: Tony, the Camp host, is SO great! He stopped by to make sure we made it and was helpful in the phone. The location is gorgeous. It's a quiet spot on top of a 12k' mountain and the stars are incredible. There's some hiking nearby and we saw a moose and the views are really epic! Areas for improvement: do not attempt to take an RV here. I towed my small teardrop camper with my Subaru Outback up through Pitkin, which is supposedly the easier route, but it was awful. The only other vehicles I saw were razors, jeeps or high clearance trucks. The road is not maintained and has big rocks and ruts. This should be a tent site only, unless you have an offroad camper with beefy tires. Second, for the price, it's very primitive. We struggled to find a spot for our friend with her tent because it's all rocks. It would be nice if there were some areas with sand or maybe a platform. There's no toilet as listed in the ad. I think the price could be lower. PSA for other campers, please go at least 100 yards from a campsite and dig a hole to go to the bathroom, and bury your waste and TP. We found human waste right next to the site. Overall, we are glad we got to experience staying here, but if we did it over again, we would have brought tents instead. Tony was a great host!

Absolutely wonderful host, he was very accommodating and friendly to talk to when I experienced a tire blow out and couldn’t not make my reservation, he refunded me in full. That is called integrity and I respect this host for that. Also if you ever need a Christmas tree of ANY size- this host is your man! Thanks Anthony.

We weren’t able to make it to the top of the mountain due to ice/sleet but we did still stay on the mountain further down and everything was beautiful! Anthony was an amazing host and even refunded us when we couldn’t make it to the top. The city of Pitkin is one a kind though and an amazing experience!

GORGEOUS scenery. Pretty, historical area. (My site was an alternative - right at the old cabins on the switchback on the way to Cumberland pass - further down the road to what's listed, as where I'd reserved was not accessible due to extreme amounts of winter snow still in the area). Lots of wildlife in the area - saw deer, evidence of beavers, many small mammals. Wildflowers speckled the green landscape. Lots of ATVs/OHVs/Motocross bikes on the road next to the site from mid-morning through just after sunset; noise / dust were more prevalent than I expected thus I stayed for only one of the two nights I'd reserved. This would be a great area for people wanting to off-road/ride ATVs near where they are camping and who want to access Cumberland Pass and Tin Cup on the other side. The road up towards the pass is accessible to a 2WD sedan when the road is dry; ensure good tires and go very slow (5 mph or less for much of the drive). Use lowest gear possible on the descent, avoid riding your brakes as it's 7+ miles of descent. I didn't try to go to the top of Cumberland pass due to number of ATVs/OHVs on the road. I think the car could have made the drive though. Locally, there is a small general store at Pitkin before beginning the drive up the dirt FS road. Minimal to no cell service on the mountain (not a bad thing! FYI for planning purposes :)

A peaceful getaway!

Wow! We had an incredible time camping on Anthony’s land at Cumberland Pass! The views are even better than imagined, the air was crisp and everything was so peaceful throughout our entire night. We’re already planning our next trip out there, can’t wait to come back!

I really enjoyed my short stay at Cumberland high alpine tent site! Road was in good condition and site was easy to find. Camp was quiet, secluded and amazing views all around! Did some hiking the next morning before packing up, definitely a great experience above 12,000 ft!

The site was amazing! The views were EPIC and we had the whole mountain to ourselves even though there were five spots. We made dinner and watched the sunset roll over the mountains. The location was insanely beautiful and we're already talking about going back!

It was spectacularly beautiful up on Cumberland Pass on Anthony’s land! 360 degree views and very private. We got lost on our way there & didn’t have cell service. Highly recommend capturing turn by turn directions before you leave home. As everyone has mentioned, Google directions aren’t right. We had a lovely weekend once we got there and will definitely go again!
