5 Star Host of an Unexpexted
Travis was a 5 star host & his place was unexpectedly beautiful! First he was an excellent communicator and very accomodating. And when I mistakenly booked for 1 n8ght too early, he was very quick with a refund.
When a blown tire in the middle of nowhere delayed our arrival until midnight, we were unable to call him at the number he has listed, but we could message him through HipCamp. His directions to the property were clear and easy enough to follow to get there, although the crazy-winding last few miles of dirt road were a bit of a challenge in the dark. Then, we were unsure where specifically to park once we arrived, so we just parked sort of in the middle, being really unsure of the land or layout. Since we were planning on an early departure anyway, we didn't even unhook, but when we awoke the next morning and opened the door for our first look at the place in daylight, we wished we had time to stay & explore much longer. It was green rolling hills with cool caprock plateaus and eroded canyons with impressive rock outcroppings. The road out was through rolling hills and green & wildflowered meadows dotted with farmsteads and criss-crossed with creekbeds.
The tragic mining history of the area is really interesting, and exploring the ruins is something we'd like to come back for another time. we might just make this our regular first leg overnight stay when traveling from South Texas to Colorado! It was that pretty!
