When my husband and I retired in 2012, we discovered this lovely piece of Paradise in Miranda, located on the famous Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt County. We moved from the Santa Cruz Mountains, so acclimating to these beautiful redwood trees was easy. Six years ago, we remodeled the basement and created what we call the “Garden Apt”. We have nine apple trees, a cherry tree, a fig tree, and a Concord grape arbor. It’s a 1/4-mile walk into the town of Miranda, where you will find the Miranda Market (well-stocked) plus a large selection of alcohol. They supply Chevron gasoline as well as an E-station. The Avenue Cafe has a large selection of delicious food for lunch and dinner. (Love the Bigfoot fries). Next door to the Post Office is The Palace restaurant, famous for the best ribeye steaks in Northern California! They are only open Wednesday through Saturday. The Chimney Tree cafe is 6 miles south of Miranda on The Avenue of the Giants, along the river. Milo, the owner, welcomes your pets, as there is outside seating under the redwoods. There is a lovely trail that leads to what we locals refer to as “The Grove”, which is a beautiful walk in the redwoods just across the road on the Avenue. You can drive to a parking spot to start a walk on this path as well. When viewing the pictures, you can see the sign at The Grove. I’m sure you saw a picture of our dogs, aka our “kids”. Mojo is the grey one, and Karma is the blonde one. We also have a black cat called Magic who would love to have coffee with you in the mornings. Other residents you may see or hear are wild turkeys, quail, squirrels, foxes, and you will hear our neighbor’s chickens and ducks as well. You may also hear some donkeys braying in the distance. Redway is south on 101 Hwy, where you can head west on Briceland Rd., which will take you to Shelter Cove, where you can find a great lunch and brew at Gyppo Ale Mill or Mi Mochima Restaurant. Black Sands Bistro has a great breakfast. If you are in Garberville, stop at our Garberville Chamber of Commerce and meet Yvonne.....she knows everything in this neck of the woods!! FYI. The Ca King bed is very comfortable, the sofa pulls forward for 2 people as well as a fold out sleeping pad a 5th guest.This beautifully designed garden apartment is a studio located in our daylight basement. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere with the convenience of being within walking distance to the Market and gas station, and two restaurants. The Avenue Cafe serves lunch and dinner and The Redwood Palace dinner (Best steak dinners and much more). We are a 10-minute drive from sunny river spots, hiking trails, popular tourist attractions, and the state park visitor center. We are located 24 miles from the beautiful Lost Coast. We have 15 years of loving and living in Miranda and are happy to share our knowledge of local spots for you to discover and enjoy. Regarding sleep accommodation, we have a Ca King, a fold out foam sofa for 1-2 people and also 2 foam fold out pads.

Hope, the host, went above and beyond to make our stay special. Not only is this an absolute dream of a location—nestled in the park with access to nearby trails, the beautiful avenue, and quick amenities—there is a snuggle-bunny cat named “Magic” that greets you each time you return. Hope left us some fresh beans, homemade applesauce, and incredible grape juice to sweeten our stay! Having a washer and dryer was so convenient and everything in the apartment was clean and comfortable. A beautiful stay matched with welcoming hosts!

We are so grateful for Grace and her husband for having us and our pets. They went above and beyond to make our stay cozy and unforgettable. Their home and property was absolutely gorgeous, felt very safe, spacious, and pretty quiet for an old house. I work remotely and never had any issues with the internet.
