This 10 acre property is located on the coastal ridge, often above the fog. You will be on the Pacific plate looking across to the North American plate, looking down on the San Andreas fault! Near artsy, coastal towns. Wonderful location for relaxing after a day of hiking and exploring beaches and forests.. In the winter months, it can provide a peaceful retreat and often dramatic storm watching. Peaceful, security-gated property with a campsite for RV's/tent camping for maximum of 6, and the charming, rustic, Pickle Barrel cabin for 2 is available. You can book either one or both. Either way, you will have the entire site for your stay. Outside wood campfires are allowed unless there is a fire ban, propane fire pits are allowed year round. Hot showers are available 15 minutes away with purchase of a day pass and quarters. The owners and their dog live on site about 50 yards away. You may see us doing our walks. Centrally located. 10 minutes from beaches, rivers, state parks, Stornetta Lands National Monument, and towns, i.e., Gualala, Point Arena, or Anchor Bay.

Peaceful, security-gated camping area for RV's and/or tent camping on a 10 acre property, with a charming, rustic cabin available as an extra. We are above the coastal fog most days. The campsite has room for 2-3 vehicles or tents easily. More if you are willing to crowd. Room for 1- 25 foot RV. Campfires are allowed unless there is a fire ban posted. The owners and their dog live on site about 50 yards away. You may see us doing our walks. The site is located on the ridge in a mixed redwood forest, with a filtered view of the Garcia River canyon. There are black bears, bob cats, fox, and racoons around—secure your food and plan to take your garbage home with you. Hot showers are available 15 minutes away—need quarters. Preload maps ahead of time: Cell phone reception and data are limited and mostly non-existence along Highway 1. 10 minutes from beaches, rivers, state parks, Stornetta Lands National Monument, and towns, i.e., Gualala, Point Arena, or Anchor Bay. During booking, you will also have the option to add the use of the charming Pickle Barrel Cabin, which is located at the campsite, for an additional rental fee of $69/night for 2 plus a $30 cleaning fee for the stay.

The Pickle Barrel Cabin is a charming, rustic cabin (NOT glamping cabin) created from a 100 year-old wooden pickle barrel, with a yurt style roof, skylight, and pot-bellied wood stove. Furnished with a WWII ship’s desk and captain’s bunk (an ALMOST double bed-**just upgraded the mattress**!) Located in a redwood forest, over-looking the Garcia River Canyon and San Andreas fault, with a picnic table, water, wifi, toilet, security gate, and fire pit. We are above the fog most days. **BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING.** If desired, bedding can be provided under Extras for $25. Don’t forget your campstove and dish pan if you are planning to cook. Wood can be burned in the cabin's pot-bellied stove year-round. Campfires are allowed unless there is a fire ban posted. Super cozy! There is parking for 2 vehicles. There is marginal electricity in the cabin. Please use gently. There are black bears, bob cats, fox, and racoons around—secure your food and garbage, and plan to take your garbage home with you. You will have the outhouse for your use only. The owners and their dog live on site about 50 yards away. You may see us doing our walks. You are welcome to use the loop trail around the property. Hot showers are available 15 minutes away—will need quarters. Preload maps ahead of time: Cell phone reception and data are limited and mostly non-existence along Highway 1. At booking, you will also have the option to add the adjacent Campsite as an extra for up to 4 Hipcampers. There is room for 2-3 tents, or a 25-28 foot RV, along with some adjacent overflow parking for 2 cars. 10 minutes from beaches, rivers, state parks, Stornetta Lands National Monument, and towns, i.e., Gualala, Point Arena, or Anchor Bay.

Really nice and quirky small hut that was comfortable for a couple. Outdoor space was surrounded by trees and was very peaceful. Short drive to Gualala or Point Arena for food. No cooking facilities on site so bring a stove if that's your plan.

The Pickle Barrel Cabin
The instructions to the cabin were clear and it was easy finding Gena's place. The stove worked extremely well and we got toasty very quickly. The decors give the cabin an old charm. We enjoyed our stay and our dog loved roaming the ground. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to explore South of Mendocino and Salt Point State park (30 min drive).

WE WILL HAPPILY RETURN! LOVED the privacy and beauty of this special site. We brought our own teardrop camping trailer and enjoyed this amazing site complete with the worlds cleanest compost toilet. Seeing, hearing, and smelling the change of the incredible outdoor space of the campsite. Looking forward to next time already.

The Pickle Barrel Cabin
Five stars! We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this cabin! From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. The cabin was spotless, beautifully decorated and had all the Comforts and little touches that made it feel special. The Host was incredibly kind of responsive, making sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. She even recommended a local Festival that we had a blast at. 100% would recommend.

Everything is set for you to enjoy your stay. Really loved the details ! Thoughtful setting of spigot for doing your dishes & drying on an extra table, charming perfect size camping table with extra benches, cozy romantic chairs & fire pit. Restroom right there, very clean. Quiet & private, despite the host lives nearby, we really appreciate the tall trees, the proximity of the ocean, about 11 miles. We even saw the whales going South at Point Arena. Definitely recommend this place.

Think twice …..
The Pickle Barrel Cabin
The bed was broken with sharp edges . It is not secure place but key from pickle barrel was not provided. No carbon monoxide detector installed . The stove is to big for that small area. No fire extinguisher. Bed is too small for second person to sleep in. No security screen door to obtain more air flow . Lots of small bugs. Restroom is not functioning well , No shower . To take showers you have to drive to different campground and you have pay daily fee and have a lots off coins with you , also you have to drive further that stated. The host should be more welcoming and more informative regarding property boundaries, trails and current attractions. The entrance is hard to find and the small dark sign inside “Hipcamp” “ is to far and not readable from the car so it is easily to be miss and you will end up in front the house of the owner, which she will not be pleased. The front of the pickle barrel was peaceful . The price was too high for the comfort provided .

Private, peaceful and accessible! Great site with great amenities (toilet, running water, fire pit and wonderful view). My 3 friends and I (along with 3 doggos) had a fabulous time at this site enjoying the weather, scenery, and each other’s company. Bring some firewood, enjoy the cool weather and mystical morning fog, and kick back for a good time.

Pickle Barrel Campsite
We LOVED our time at the Pickle Barrel campsite! Beautiful spot up on a ridge and the composting toilet was very clean. The host was friendly and checked in with us. We spent a whole day just relaxing at the campsite, which was perfect after weeks on the road/trail. We would absolutely stay here again!

Very pleasant spot. In the redwoods up above the coastal fog. You get the spot to yourself. The owner's house is about 50 yards away but with the cabin and trees it still felt private. Toilet works and doesn't smell. Nice little nature trail around the property. Hose for extinguishing your fire is a nice touch.

I wish that I was a good liar and say that I hated it. But fortunately I'm not a good liar : ) Highly recommended! Serenely quiet, as the day starts to dim. Except for nature. Birds whistling, churping talking to each other. Squirrels doing their thing, moths and butterflies and other bugs. This is beautifully simple nature. Loved it! Bring bug spray - it's nature : )

Gena was a great host. Everything on the site was thoughtful and well maintained. We got know little bit of history of barrel and inside cabin. We enjoyed our walk around the site. It is a beautiful place.

Nice, quiet and private. Great firepit and good flat space for a tent. Easy to get in and out of on the road. Clean and kept up, very clean compost toilet outhouse, no odor at all!

Such a fantastic site and sight! The pickle barrel is so charming and plenty comfy. Directions, access, and instructions were super clear and easy to follow (no arrival or departure anxiety!) The property was gorgeous and a perfect jumping off point for exploring - and it was just as nice to hang around in the forest and read around the fire onsite.

We loved having access to a fire pit and the campsite is super dog friendly. I liked how easy it was to find a spot for our car and it's very easy to pitch a tent here. We had an awesome time. Thank you, G!

Pickle Barrel Campsite
Host was very responsive and accommodating to a last minute request to stay in the cabin. I'm so glad we did! It was cozy and much larger than expected! The fireplace kept us warm all night and the bed was so comfortable. Would highly recommend staying here and I hope to again in the future!

Fortunately there wasn’t anyone staying in the small hut or this would have been a very cramped camp spot. And 30 miles round trip for a shower, at this price? Sorry but I can’t recommend.

Forest bathing in a Pickle Barrel

The Pickle Barrel Cabin
What a gem in the heart of the forest yet 15 minutes from all you need to glam it up at the Pickle Barrel. The view is lovely, the pot belly stove is amazing, and being tucked away in the woods is what we all need to reset. We enjoyed exploring the beautiful Mendo coast and retreating to the campsite after long days. The composting toilet is incredible - no smell, easy to use, and convenient.

Exactly as presented. Sweet little cabin with electricity. The mattress was really comfortable. Outdoor fire pit and tables. Compost toilet was odor free. Less than 15 mins to Point Arena and Gualala. Hope to be back.
