Secluded Desert Valley Cabin
We loved our stay! The shack is super cozy with a big deck. Nice area for night sky photography. Some nice boulders at the top of the hills. We also saw some deers/rams, snakes, birds nearby.

This was the perfect little getaway after being in the hustle and bustle of San Diego every day. There wasn't a single person in sight and the cabin was the perfect escape from the wind when it picked up! Overall, very nice spot. Thank you!

I enjoyed this site so much the first time that I came back for a second visit, and plan on visiting again. It's secluded in a beautiful area. Off the beaten path, but not by too much. Makes for great stargazing if the conditions are right. Highly recommend.

Very secluded, gorgeous spot. The cabin helped protect us from the cold wind. The ladder might be hard to manage for anyone who is not agile, especially in the middle of the night. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay! Highly recommend.

The property is maintained well - this was our 3rd time back. The porch makes being outside especially comfortable. There are so many places to wander around by foot and a comfy place to come back to :) We love this land. We enjoy camping in Anza Borrego's dispersed land is great, but knowing exactly where we have a spot and the fact that it's so private is a luxury. We'll be back!

This spot is amazing and private and was perfect for my girl and I and our dogs. Make sure to put paw guards or dog shoes for the dogs because of the desert plants and their thorns. The spot is amazing and it is very private. Will definitely come again.

Mike was very hospitable. I met him at the local store and followed him up to the site. As soon as I step foot on this land I knew I would be back. The views are amazing! I got here when there was a wind advisory so I couldn't have a campfire, which is usually a deal breaker for me, but the stars were more than enough! I would definitely be back very soon!

I had my wedding here, the drive up might discourage you but it was beautiful and non disruptive since there is no other people or homes that are nearby. We had the whole place to ourselves and it was sweet and intimate like I had hoped for. Michael was more than accommodating and helped us get more chairs up the mountain as well! Look forward to seeing him again

Overall a great camping experience: the site, surroundings, and host were all wonderful. The only thing to watch out for is the wind.
The site itself has a ton of room to set up tents, sit around the fire pit, sit under the shade structure, and park cars. Our 4 people, 2 cars, and 2 tents barely made a dent! The shade structure is quite large, and provides plenty of shade throughout the day. The porta potty is a nice addition, although it did get some large ants at night (can't really complain about that too much; it is the outdoors after all). The drive there was easily accomplished in a FWD Honda Fit.
The surroundings are absolutely gorgeous. The site is very secluded and quiet, with nature in all directions to admire. The night sky looks great given the lack of light pollution.
The only downside here - as mentioned in other reviews - is the wind. It wasn't windy enough to risk bending a tent pole or anything, but it took some work to make sure nothing blew away while cooking and eating. On the plus side, it kept us feeling comfortable despite the 80 degree weather, and kept the tents very well ventilated.
Mike was a great host: very responsive to questions, gave us easy directions to get to the site, and gave us more than enough water for our trip.

Me and my group of six absolutely loved this site and all agreed we would be coming back. We made it to the site with no issues by following Mike's directions. The site is quite isolated, meaning you don't have to worry about bothering any neighbors. The views from the site are great, with no signs of anyone else around. There site is fairly flat with plenty of spots to pitch tents. As anyone who camps in the desert knows, the sun can be brutal, which makes the permanent shade structure on the site invaluable. We came out for the perseid meteor shower and had an amazing show. Definitely recommend this site and we will definitely be back in the future.

The place was perfect for a getaway with friends! Make sure you have plenty of shade, water, and food, but the space is wonderful, fun, and private. We had an amazing time here

Beautiful location with 360 mountain views! Pictures don’t do it justice. Loved how remote and secluded it felt and the fact that I was able to reach the spot in my Honda Civic (no 4WD necessary). Aside from the amazing location, Michael was an incredible host who was quick to respond to whatever we needed. Our car died on the second night and he was kind enough to come over and jump it for us asap! 10/10 recommend this spot to anyone looking for a wonderful getaway. We’ll definitely be bringing friends back in the future!

The listing is accurate. Know that this is primitive camping with few amenities. The listing said so and I was fully prepared with all I needed. I was in range of AT&T cellular service. I liked the serene camp location away from other campers and Neighbors. Michael was clear and communicated the location accurately. No uncertainty as to the location, adjacent to the State Park and a little used trail. The site itself is just a pull off from the dirt road. There was only one vehicle that passed by during my stay. It was a little bit dusty so grateful it was the only one. The site slopes a little. I prefer a bit of a slope for a good night sleep but that may not suit everyone.

The natural beauty of the land was gorgeous. If you stay, be sure to arrive during the day as this place is impossible to find at night based on the directions. There was some unattractive construction debris on the property that detracted from the natural beauty, but hopefully that will be gone soon. This spot is VERY windy, at least at this time of year, so plan accordingly

Overall, this is a great campsite and perfect option for anyone looking to have a spacious private space for their group of family or friends! Michael was incredibly friendly and informative about the area and any activities or trails we might have wanted to go on. He was an excellent host. The only negative for our group was completely out of his control, it was just super windy. Like... super super windy nonstop gusts no relief. Just be prepared for this to be a possible weather condition.

Overall I would recommend. It is a tough review to write, this spot is very pretty and does seem secluded. Although I did not directly observe anyone close to me in proximity, I could hear a Saturday night camping EDM party until about 1030pm at the next camp just around the hill. I am happy people are out having fun but I myself wasn’t trying to have that night. Some things can’t be helped. The high wind was also an issue although I simply moved my tent off the peak site to behind the ridge a bit it wasn’t nearly as bad to sleep through. The wind was challenging for cooking but again, can’t be helped. With my gripes being said Michael was very accommodating and friendly. I’m a single female traveling alone and felt safe enough. It is in great proximity to Anza Borrego State park, and a very beautiful part of the desert in general.

We had a wonderful time staying at Mike's HipCamp. The site is on a large property adjacent to Anza Borrego. It felt private and secluded, perfect for a large group of campers. It is an easy walk into the western edge of Anza Borrego. Mike is a great host. This was our second time visiting Mike's property and we will definitely be back.

This was our second time staying here and we will definitely be back in the future. This site is extremely large and private, with an incredible view of the stars. The covered deck is lovely to hang out on. Mike was an attentive and helpful host. Thank you for another great weekend!

We spent 3 night's at Mike's hilltop retreat, we were 2 families in 2 camper trailers. The seclusion and stars are the highlight as are the sunset views and little things like a clean port-o-potty, Adirondack chairs around a big firepit, and the patio structure with picnic table. Buy some beers and firewood at the Montezuma Market before you head up! You won't want to bother driving back.
Having campers to sleep and eat dinner in a few times was crucial for us, as it was really windy while we were there. Over 3 days and nights, the wind calmed down for maybe a total of 2-3 hours. We set up a table behind the shed structure to allow us to cook and hang without being totally blasted by the wind. Luckily we had a bunch of kites, bring some! We did some bushwacking exploration nearby one day, and another day headed up the easy trail that enters the State Park.
I was a little unclear about the "potable water" available at the sight. I was thinking the water would come from big tanks, but instead we were given 8 one-gallon Arrowhead jugs, which for 6 people over three hot windy days wasn't really enough for drinking and washing dishes. We had extra water in our trailers luckily, but next time I'd bring or request more.
We didn't see any snakes or scorpions even as we climbed around the rocks, nor were there creatures trying to eat any food left out (that didn't blow away!) We had a great time watching hawks, vultures and other birds. On Easter morning there was a rabbit hopping around. Nice touch ;-)

We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the open spaces at Park and Chill. A great hiking trail is literally a few steps away from the camp site. We brought our electric trail bikes and spent some fun times riding down into the park lands, too. It seemed like we had all of Anza Borrego almost to ourselves which is exactly what we wanted. Mike was very helpful and patient when we thought traffic might make us a few minutes late to our meet-up spot. We truly appreciated our time spent at this spot!

Mike is a fantastic host. The property is spectacular and he has the spot all set up with a great fire pit and table. He also hooked us up with a great guide who took us on a killer hike one day. Unfortunately we were a little unprepared for the wind, which blew pretty steadily the entire time we were there. That's out of Mike's hands, of course, but other than that it's a gorgeous camp.

Michael is a great host. He responds quickly, and when we had to make an adjustment in our arrival time, it was not an issue at all. When we arrived at the store, he took us right up to the property. Super friendly guy, filled with helpful tips.
He told us there are coyotes in the area, but we didn't see or hear any. We did see some deer, though!
In the evening we had a total blast running around with the dog off leash. She loved it — although you do have to be careful around the abundant cactus. Three or four times we pulled barbs out our pup's little paws, but once they were out, she was fine.
When it got dark, the stars were unbelievable. We could see the Milky Way. I have never seen such a clear, beautiful sky.
All that said, I would be careful about the weather before booking this location. Believe the other reviewers when they say it can get windy! The wind was VERY intense on the night we stayed. It was very hard to set up the tent (kept trying to blow away), and difficult to light a fire. Eventually we were able to, thanks to the fire pit, which is provided.
Check the weather before heading up and you'll be fine.

Pros: Incredible views, secluded, host provided plenty of water, clean porta-potty, close to Anza-Borrego
Cons: VERY windy at night. The site is completely exposed to the local high winds; it was difficult to cook or even stand up at times, and many of our belongings nearly blew away. Our tent almost collapsed due to the wind during the first night, and we did not get restful sleep due to the noise of the wind/tent. We had to sleep in the car for the second night. However, the wind was calm during the day, only starting after the sun went down. Hopefully we just came on an unusually windy weekend, because it was a gorgeous spot otherwise. Well worth the hike up to the top of the steep hill for the views at the campsite, but not at the cost of having to battle the extreme wind....
