My family and I had the best time camping at Maple Creek Ranch. We stayed at Site 2, which was privately nestled among the trees—clean, flat, and perfectly peaceful. The site included a deep firepit and a sturdy picnic table, making it easy to relax and cook meals together.
The amenities were fantastic. There was a spotless outhouse just about a hundred feet away (with a flushing toilet!), and a hot shower next to the pond. The pond itself was stocked with bluegill and bass, and my family caught their first-ever fish there—an unforgettable memory!
But the highlight of our stay was Ron, the host. He’s an absolute gem—so kind, genuine, and full of great stories. He brought us firewood and water and when my car battery died on our last day, he didn’t hesitate to drive over with his truck and give me a jump. His hospitality truly made our trip special.
We’ll absolutely be coming back and can’t recommend Maple Creek Ranch enough to anyone visiting the Cohasset/Chico area!

This is our 5th trip to Maple Creek. We’ r gone in summer, fall & winter and the location is always beautiful. Ron & Kristen are great hosts. They are present but not overbearing. They’re proud of their land and genuinely enjoying sharing it.

Maple Creek was awesome! Very peaceful and Ron was super helpful and friendly. Despite the fact that there was an event taking place on the property the same weekend, I felt like I had the whole place to myself. The flush toilet is also a gem! I will definitely be staying at Maple Creek again.

Maple Creek Ranch is so magical. The pond and surrounding area have everything you could want for a relaxing family vacay -- the outdoor kitchen and flush toilet and hot shower, the sandy little beach and every kind of boat to paddle around in, and the lovely forest shade and breezes keeping it comfortable at the ranch even when the weather is absolutely broiling just down the hill in Chico. The surrounding areas burned in a fire recently, but nature is already rebounding, and we enjoyed hiking through the burned areas to see the baby trees starting to re-green the landscape.

We love this spot and it’s now on our annual list! The camp site was so beautiful with trees all around. You felt like the only ones out there. Camp had plenty of shade spots throughout the day plus we brought a pop up tent for extra chill zones. The site had one of the best fire rings I’ve had at any camp site. Perfect sizing and nice and deep. If fires are an important part of your experience, remember to check on fire restrictions!
Ron is the best!! He made sure to come meet us and give a full run down of the property to make sure we were comfortable. We even pinged him a couple times throughout the weekend and he was just so kind and wonderful to talk to.
The pond and common area are just a 5 min walk from camp and it’s such a cute vibe with dragonflies all around, lush green plants, and gorgeous trees. There are fish and turtles in the pond too! There’s bathroom and outdoor shower near the pond as well. WiFi works at the pond but not really at the camp site (if that’s important to you).
We hiked the trail that leads down to the creek which is so serene with wild flowers and dappled sunlight. We sat, enjoyed the sounds of the creek and watched the butterflies and hummingbirds do their thing.
We had such a magical time. 10/10 recommend.

I loved camping here! I've done a lot of camping this summer and this was one of my favorites. We met the owner, Ron, and he is very cool and helpful. Told us about the property, where to go on a hike, brought us a firewood. Very honored to be able to stay here.
We stayed at campsite #2 and it was huge, plenty of space and far away from campsite #1 and the AirB&B. Felt very private and secluded, which is a big deal. I don't always want to camp where it's super crowded and campsites are on top of each other.
There is a walk to the swimming area from the campsite, but it was so nice. The water felt great in the heat. We saw deer, dragonflies, hummingbirds, butterflies. Bathrooms were the nicest bathrooms ever! So clean, flushable. Outside shower is also very nice.
We want to come here every summer!

It was nice. Dog friendly. Ron was welcoming and had potable water ready for our use. Camp sight was clean and nice. Despite everything in the surrounding area being burnt by a devastating fire, the camp was still beautiful. It was wonderful to see all the new life starting to peek through the forest floor. The pond was nice, tons of fish. Our six year old was tickled at how easy it was to catch a fish and it was really difficult to get him to leave the pond. The turtles were super curious and adorable. We really enjoyed ourselves. The shower says not to touch the knobs just push the button, which resulted in a very cold shower for myself. . . My husband turned the knob and got a hot shower for himself to which the kids then benefited from his defiance as well. We would for sure come back. It was nice to have a toilet within walking distance as well. It’s worth it, so book now.

My friends and I had an incredible experience at Site 1 - Forest Camping in Maple Creek Ranch, California. The location was easy to find, and the host was exceptionally kind, welcoming, and generous—personally guiding us to our campsite. Our spot was perfect: spacious, private, and ideal for stargazing at night. The entire campground was expansive and fun to explore, offering plenty of space to roam and enjoy nature. This is an ideal getaway, especially for first-time campers looking for a comfortable and memorable introduction to the outdoors.

We absolutely loved our stay. The kids kept asking to come back before we even left. There were clean flush toilets and a hot shower.
The only thing we would do differently next time is to bring our bicycles to bike down to the pond.

Wow I loved tent camping at Maple Creek. I came for a long weekend with my friends and we were all blown away at the cleanliness of the campsite, the abundance of amenities, and the kindness of the hosts! Ron went out of his way to make sure our group felt comfortable, he dropped off potable water, took the time to show us to our site and explain the property, helped us locate a fun hiking trail, and was so welcoming! They allowed us to use the pond on their property which was equipped with water rafts, stocked with fish, and so clean for swimming! We really cannot recommend this place more, the whole experience was so relaxing, we would definitely want to come back!

My partner and I enjoyed tent camping on Ron and Kirstin’s land. There were only two camping sites that had a good distance away from each other so everyone had ample of space and privacy. I appreciate the flushing toilet and amazing well water provided. We enjoyed the pond very much. We used one of the boats and swam a little with the fish 🙂. I had my Notebook moment while he paddled for us both lol. Showering as also amazing as the outside shower among the trees was super nice view and the heated shower was a plus. I would say that the one who loved it the most was my puppy Ellie. She enjoyed the woods with ample space to run around and explore. It was so nice being able to have a wonderful time without being overcrowd. What’s best is that it was dog friendly.

Amazing place. Ron and Kristin saved this beautiful space from the Park fire. Lots of love here. The woods, the pond, the river. Magical. Very private, very quiet. Ron brought me well water, thanks Ron. My dog loved being free to run. Really want to go back with a group of solo women campers. Perfect place to gather.

The campsite was lovely, and the bathroom was clean. The kids had a great time fishing, boating, and playing by the fire. Many of the trees had been burned in a past park fire, so it did get quite hot during the midday hours. The host was kind and accommodating. There were only two campsites, with a large distance between them, offering plenty of space and privacy.

Such a great spot. For a quick get away. Things to know: plan for mosquitoes, they were abundant. The bathroom was amazing. Literally a flushing toilet in the middle of the woods lol. There was a lot of early morning activity, from the property owners going around on some sort of quad, to the fire department rolling through…not the work but definitely a lote less private than I was thinking. Also, there was a lot of tree clearing going on due to the past fire.
Fair warning: the map is a big loop and the first leg of the loop is pretty mild, a gravel road, no crazy bumps. However. The outter part of the loop past site 1 that leads out to the main road is definitely not for small sedans or anything low to the ground. We also got a few hours of a mountain storm and ended up leaving abruptly on our last night because we were getting flooded out. The campsite turned into a small ocean in the matter of an hour. And thank god my Subaru outback is All Wheel Drive! The road out would have been completely impossible if not for my Subaru. And even then we were sliding all over the place. The road out was ROUGH and was all red clay dirt that turned to mush after 20 mins of rain. Without ALL/4WD we would have been stuck in seconds. So, do yourself a favor and make the whole drive through if you suspect rain and make sure you can get out. Otherwise, this was good spot about 30 mins outside Chico, Ca. Would visit again without the possibility of rain.

We had a great experience at Maple Creek Ranch. Ron was very helpful with anything questions and requests we had. The sites are spread apart and you can barely see the other. There was an issue with the outdoor shower and Ron let us use the shower at the airbnb on the property.

This is a great spot with great hosts. Our spot was tucked into the woods with no one nearby, with a fire ring, a heavy duty picnic table, and a nice tent pad. Ron, the host, brought a 10 gal water container to help us get set up and gave us the lay of the land. Nearby was a very nice port-a-potty, a temporary solution while they work on their septic system for campers. The weather was cold, so when we were down by the charming pond, Ron had a fire going for us. At the pond, the grill setup is really nice. Due to weather changes, we didn't get to explore all the property and trails, but we are really looking forward to returning.

Great private camp spot! Even after having the Park fire, the camp area is still beautiful. The pond was awsome for my daughter to catch and release. It's a short walk down there.
There's a general store close for extra ice and the hosts were very nice! BRING MOSQUITO REPELLENT! After getting the fire going and the citronella coils burning they stay away.

What a gem right outside of Chico. It was a lovely stay on lovely people’s land. It was quiet, we had plenty of space, and there are opportunities to walk from the campground.

My family, friends, and I spent a great weekend away here. There are 2 sites and I could barely see the other campers from site 1. Lots of room to hang out and relax. It’s fairly secluded too, and perfect if you want to have privacy. Our hosts were great. They provided us some water and resolved an issue with the toilet as well. 5 stars we would recommend staying here.

Kristin was warm and inviting. She left me with extra water and garbage bags. She was also very kind to my dog and let him play around the forest. Site 2 was quiet with plenty of privacy. The property is large enough to go on a couple hikes. Overall, a great experience.

My boyfriend and I loved our stay here. Kristin was so nice. She waited until late night for us to arrive so she can personally show us our campsite. She even let us borrow her pot and brought it to us because we forgot to bring our rice cooker. So nice! The campground was very large but it was quiet and private which we liked, it felt so intimate. We explored the campground by walking the trail that Kristin told us about. There was actually no view around it aside from burnt woods and trees due to the fire that happened before. There was also a small pond with lots of fishes and turtles. Nevertheless , overall stay was pretty nice and memorable.

This was so much fun, we can wait to come back in the summer to go swimming. Site 1 was secluded and spacious, the property was beautiful, and Kristin and Ron were very kind. They even lent us a knife since we forgot one, and provide extra firewood. Would definitely recommend!

No complains at all, everything was great! Ron greeted us at check-in and showed us to our campsite. He made sure we had plenty of wood for our 3 day stay and left us plenty of water as well. My husband and I had our young pup and she loved being off leash the whole time. We did get approached by 2 black dogs and a black pup on our hike to toward Mud Creek but they were super friendly! The flush toilet was such an added plus and was the cleanest I’ve seen at a campsite! We took use of the pond and did some fishing! We plan on staying again in the summer!
