Ditch your car, phone and wallet, and walk off into the sunset from here. Walk to King's Peak in a day or two, or bum a ride to the mouth of the Mattolle and walk the coast to Shelter Cove and beyond. Cruise down to Humboldt Redwoods State Park for the day, or just hang out and look at the trees while you walk/climb the creek looking for Pacific Giant Salamanders, and drink from the springs. Twenty acres of mostly steep Mattolle River Headwaters land, once part of the forest garden maintained for thousands of years by the People who called the coast and valleys their home.
