Once settled by Tubatulabel and Shoshoni tribes, this area is rich with reminders of their habitation. Grinding rocks near Tipi camp are one of those. When gold was discovered in the Kern River Valley, most of the native tribes were displaced but their decendents here in the KRV keep the history alive with language studies and cultural events.

Juniper

Tent site · Sleeps 6
Pitch up to 3 two-man tents under the shade of an ancient juniper, sheltered in granite rock.  Cook your meals on a secured cooking fire or enjoy a communal fire ring while decompressing in the serenity of this ancient land.  Immediate access to amenities, and within view of the retreat house, yet a secluded feel permeates the intimate location.  Walk the quiet paths of the internationally visited Audubon preserve a mere 5 minutes away by automobile, or meditate on massive boulders in the sun a few minutes walk from the site. For pop-up campers please note Juniper shade has a slight incline at the campsite parking area.  Twin Corrals camp is our choice for pop-up campers! Please message us for more info.

High desert, with parking and turn-around for horse trailers and motor homes, 15 minutes from Lake Isabella. Single campground with lots of cleared space and two sturdy pipe corrals with large sun/rain shelters. Plenty of open space for short trail rides. 5 minutes from Hwy 178, easy access on a maintained dirt road. Paiute mountains are a stunning sunrise backdrop. Great layover for Rodeo, Mule Days, or a quiet motor home camping trip. Ancient granite boulders, sagebrush and wildlife make for a serene getaway.  Tents also welcome; this is a large site and can host multiple people. ***This campground does not require horses; and there is no extra fee for the corrals. Diesel fuel available minutes away on Highway 178. Horse campers bring your own feed and water buckets, manure bucket provided!
