We are a 160 acre off-grid, homestead located in the coastal mountains of Mendocino County, California's Emerald Triangle. We have been homesteading here since 1998 and have developed a lifestyle where we nourish the abundance that thrives here.
Bill has built the entire homestead, including our solar system, water system, roads, our orchard, our barn, our home, and each camp site.
We grow our own food in our CCOF organically certified gardens, make all our food from scratch and make our own medicine. We are legacy, personal
Cannabis cultivators and we have a "do it yourself" attitude towards life.
We are ready to share our lifestyle with others, as we host campers on Hipcamp.
We offer an off-grid homestead tour of our solar system, a garden tour, seasonal vegetables from our gardens, an encounter with our horses. We also offer our personally, hand-crafted, organic ice cream delivered to your site.
Our land is abundant with wildlife and guests are able to view the wildlife in their natural habitat. Our internal, dirt roads are private and provide for enjoyable walks and bike rides.
Land History:
Back in the day, our land was part of a large sheep ranch. The Skunk Train was used by homes along the tracks for transportation and supply deliveries. Today, it can be heard daily on its journey along the tracks which run through neighboring properties.
The Pond Site:
We are delighted to share our lifestyle and to offer everybody a sweet, private spot in the woods next to our pond, where you can be free to explore the outdoors and observe the abundant wildlife in their undisturbed home.
We walk lightly on the land, and we expect our guests to do the same.
We are family friendly and have trails for you to explore the property and meet our horses. We also provide a tour of our off-grid solar system.
The pond site is located on a private, internal dirt road, which provides for absolute privacy. It's like experiencing an outback camping experience with the amenities of car camping. A clean outhouse, a spigot with cold, delicious mountain spring water, and a bi-level campsite with picnic table is at the site. A fire pit and second picnic table is located next to the pond for a delightful stargazing experience.
The pond is a healthy, spring fed ecosystem and quite refreshing on those hot days. It is big enough for small kayaks, paddle boards, and rafts too.
NEW 2022 Pond Site Addition:
We have installed a new fire pit this year!! Upon your arrival, you will find
complimentary, match-light firewood set up in the pit for a warm welcome to your site. More firewood is available for purchase throughout your stay. It is illegal in California to travel across county borders with firewood. Firewood often has insect eggs or larvae that can devastate a forest. Please refrain from bringing firewood purchased or harvested from outside Mendocino County.
The Best Rest Along the Way:
We have created a “self-contained” dry campsite along our main road that is van and truck camping friendly, and can take travel trailers max 16’ length. This site has no amenities and is intended to accommodate people who need a place to catch a rest without sleeping on the roadside, although many do like it as a bear bones campsite.
We are conveniently located about 10 min from the 101, for easy in-and-out access. There are lengthy internal roads and trails for unwinding and stretching your legs. Did I mention that town is less than 10 minutes from your campsite? If you forget anything, it is no biggie to run and get what you need.
Come check it out! The homestead has much to offer:
Eat from our organic garden, check out Cathy's handcrafted,Organic Insect Repellant.
We are cannabis friendly 🌱, we like a chill vibe, and if you get the munchies ...
Cathy handcrafts some delicious organic ice cream that we'll deliver to your campsite.

Greetings from Cathy and Bill's Cannabis Friendly Camping location in California's Emerald Triangle!! Over the last 26years, we have developed our 160 acre, off-grid homestead in the forested, coastal mountains of Mendocino California.
We are delighted to share our lifestyle and share this sweet, private spot in the woods next to our pond. Feel free to explore the outdoors of our property with the trail map. An abundance of wildlife can be observed here along walks, or just sitting still at the site. In the spring time, it is fun to find and identify the local wildflowers, like a scavenger hunt.
We are family friendly and our off-grid homestead tour can provide some insight into how you too can homestead off-grid!!
The pond site is located on a private, internal dirt road, which provides for ultimate privacy for this site. The pond is 20’ deep and big enough for small kayaks, paddle boards, and rafts.
We have created one tent campsite here that is van and truck camping friendly, and can take travel trailers max 16’ length (doesn’t include vehicle)
Yes, you read that correctly, one tent site ... absolute, complete privacy just for you!! Did I mention that town is less than 10 minutes from your campsite?
The fire pit has an amazing view of the night sky for the ultimate stargazing experience. Upon your arrival, there will be a match light fire ready for a warm welcome to your site. We have an abundance of camp fire wood available for purchase throughout your stay.
We have hosted a few successful large camping Birthday parties over the past couple seasons. If this sounds fun to you, book your B’Earthday celebration early :)

Nestled amidst serene natural beauty, Cathy and Bill's campsite offers a secluded yet accessible retreat, perfect for both solitude seekers and groups. Guests consistently praise the well-maintained facilities, the abundant wildlife, and the exceptional hospitality, highlighted by Cathy's homemade ice cream. While the area is generally peaceful, visitors should be mindful of the wildlife, including occasional snake sightings, as noted by some campers. Overall, it is a spot celebrated for its privacy, stunning views, and the warm welcome extended by the hosts.
What a beautiful place!!! I spent a very special night and morning here. I so enjoyed walking the property loop beneath the pines and woodpeckers, and eating Cathy's delicious homemade chocolate cinnamon ice cream beside the fire beneath the Milky Way. Cathy and Bill are gracious hosts and lovely people. I was delighted to take home an abundant harvest of tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers and herbs from their family farm. I can't wait to find myself back there! Also very close to the cute town of Willits where I found a great burrito, latte and gas.
Loved it and would definitely go again!
Beautiful campsite. Well-shaded throughout the day, and the open hilltop has a fantastic view 24 hours. We really enjoyed the feeling of privacy, and we got some homemade ice cream delivered by Cathy which was an absolute treat. There's a good tap near the site and a well-kept toilet between the site and the hilltop. We had a great time playing cards and enjoying the peace and quiet. It's really a special place to share with a partner or friends.
It's a 5 minute drive to town and a 10 minute drive to a great disc golf course, so it's remarkably convenient for a really out there feeling camp site.
As the hosts will tell you it is teeming with wildlife. There were quail bopping about and field mice darting to and fro. It's worth keeping your wits about you. Walking from the fireplace back to the campsite (30 second walk) we encountered a rattlesnake and had to retreat back for a moment when it shook at us. We also saw a baby rattlesnake and possibly a California Mountain Snake earlier that day - in the tall hill grass and by a large stone, so it's not like they were in the site at all. Loved it but something to be aware of (and again, they warned us) and maybe not for a solo camper - depends on your experience.
The space we got for this trip was very nice and very secluded with real nice hiking trail with great views for both sunrise and sunset
The host are very kind and very easy to reach and I’ll probably request the space again
We had a lovely quiet night. After setting our alarm to wake up at 2:00 a.m., we watched the fabulous meteor shower. Hope to return again next August for more exciting viewing!
Just a wonderful space Cathy and Bill have created on their property. I would highly recommend this Hipcamp to anyone. We’ll be back for sure ! Stunning views, clean, bathroom/outhouse was very clean with lights !
Exceptional place stop as a waypoint into Fort Bragg Northern California the Willits(Emerald Forest area). Bill and Kathy have an exceptional site very private, very accommodating personal groups large groups exceptional stargazing.
I booked very last-minute and had myself a nice solo getaway for the weekend. Bill greeted me and show me around the place. I had an enjoyable weekend of quiet and solitude. I enjoyed a good variety of wildlife right from camp. Cathy's ice cream is a camper's dream come true! Thank you both for hosting!!
We love this Hipcamp sooo much. We have now visited twice, once a couple and a second time with friends to entertain, and the wealth of wildlife is incredible. Cathy and Bill are easy to communicate with and wonderfully generous. Thank you!
One of my more favorite spots so far! Out of the way, but not too far, great views and a spacious area next to the pond. I also enjoyed walking the loop to see the views on the backside. Will stay more than one day next time to take it all in. :-)
Cathy and Bill's campsite was perfect! Lots of space, as well as a dedicated spot to pitch a tent. Potable water was straight from their ground well, very tasty water! No light pollution, star gazing was perfect - we were able to see the Milky Way. They provided comfy chairs to star gaze as well. Home made ice cream was so so tasty, we should have ordered a second pint! Definitely looking forward to staying here again. Outhouse for bathroom needs as well.
I had an amazing stay at this camp spot! Communication with the host was smooth and easy, and getting to the site was no problem at all. It felt secure being behind their private gate, which made the experience even more relaxing. The stars at night were absolutely stunning! Would definitely come back.
Very pleasant, cozy place with a great view of the stars at night. Loved the fact it's less than an hour to reach the beach. Dry camping location, so there's no water, restroom, or electric at this site.
Camp site was awesome! Cathy & Bill were so accommodating. Great space to relax in big groups, chairs near the fire pit were awesome for Star gazing. Would book again.
We loved our stay at Cathy & Bill's property at the pond site! We had lovely views, privacy, and a fantastic stay. Cathy shared some of her amazing homemade ice cream that we LOVED and would absolutely camp here again.
We loved the site and the views. It was nice and private and spacious. Great for group camps. The location was very convenient and close to town. Hosts were super nice, welcoming and friendly. Would totally recommend.
Cathy and Bill were super friendly and welcoming. Clear with their expectations of you as a guest on their beautiful land. Will be visiting them again for sure
What a magical spot! I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a special site with warm and friendly land tenders who made me feel so welcome. I came for a quiet spiritual retreat and it was perfect for that. There is a sunny meadow and a shady site, and both are spectacular.
We came out here one night to get some peace and quiet. The site was cozy with plenty of space for 2 people and a dog. Cathy was helpful and friendly. She hooked us up with fresh lettuce and herbs from the garden and home made ice cream. We will definitely be back.
We absolutely loved staying at Cathy & Bill’s Hipcamp. Upon welcoming us at the gate, we drove to the pond site, which is surrounded by the most breath-taking views, lots of wildlife and exactly the peace we needed to get away from the city life. The amenities, like an outhouse and fresh water were much appreciated. What made the stay extra special was the homemade Thai Iced tea ice cream, delivered to the campsite, after we set up. We enjoyed it by the fireplace, which already had chairs set up to relax.
We couldn’t have wished for a better stay. Thank you very much Cathy and Bill 🙏.
We would definitely come back!
Cathy and Bill’s is our favorite camping spot! The outhouse is pristine (with a great view), the firewood is stocked, and the site is clean and clear. Our whole family loves visiting and taking walks around the property, greeting the horses, identifying bird calls and watching the frogs peek up at us in the pond. We even had some curious deer come walking through the site and heard some turkeys gobbling back and forth. Plenty of wildlife and serenity but close enough to town to grab a sandwich and supplies. 10/10 always
We had a great time. Took a couple walks around. Walked our dogs and smoked a little bit. It was a good vibe and we really enjoyed it. Thanks for allowing us to experience your land. We are grateful.
Such a great experience we showed up and the brought us chairs and wood to set up for a fire. They were super friendly and welcoming I would definitely come back
