Started in 2014 by Tim and Michelle Borland and their three kids, the Bar SZ Ranch is a true family business with a mission to help others “forge their legacy.” Set on 2200-acres in its own valley with iconic California oak trees and golden hills; views of the surrounding mountains and Pinnacles National Park; and painted, sunlit skies guests can't get enough of, this working ranch offers unique, getaway camping and glamping experiences for both new and seasoned campers. The Bar SZ Campground is near Pinnacles National Park but relatively remote from other services, which is part of what makes the area so special. It is a place to unplug, share stories and spend time with your family and friends, and explore the wilderness of California. If you’d like to schedule animal feeding, horseback riding, or arena riding/horsemanship lessons with us, these are available at an additional cost and a link will be provided for booking. (No activities available on Sundays or Mondays, except for holiday weekends.) From the ranch: Pinnacles National Park East entrance 6.6 miles Nearest Groceries and restaurants: Hollister 36 miles north King City 28.5 miles south Tres Pinos 29.2 miles north The nearest amenities (stores, restaurants, gas) are about 30 miles away so please plan ahead and bring the things you will need during your stay. Our canvas glamping tent sits in our Bar SZ Ranch campground. This glamping tent accommodates up to 6 people with two twin over full bunk beds, one twin over twin bunk bed, and a futon couch. Amenities include: fresh pillows, full sets of sheets, high-end hotel grade mattresses, two blankets (extra warm blanket and one normal bed spread), extra blankets (upon request), floor lamp, and upright fan. Each tent has one power strip with four available 20-amp outlets to be used for electronics or additional fans only (no portable AC units allowed). We had a great time staying here! It was easy to navigate to and super convenient for getting to the east side of Pinnacles National Park. Was so fun seeing and hearing all the animals at the ranch, and we also did a trail ride while we were there that was super fun and informative

The area was very beautiful! Lovely ranch and the campsite kitchen was so nice. Everything was pretty clean, even the bathroom areas. The owners are so sweet and we loved our stay. Animals were so cute too!! We miss the ranch cat, George haha. Definitely suggest :)

We had an excellent time at Bar SZ Ranch. The campground was clean, and the camp kitchen made dinner and campfires really easy. It was really cool to prepare a dinner with ingredients that were sourced from the ranch itself. The activities were a great addition— we really enjoyed the baby animal feeding.

SZ Ranch was absolutely beautiful! The setting was peaceful and scenic, and we loved every minute of it. My kids had the best time meeting and feeding the farm animals and were especially excited about the goats and horses! We also really loved walking and playing in the river. We highly recommend this for families looking for a unique and memorable outdoor experience and would love to come back again soon!

If I could give them 10 stars I would! What a great experience! This is the type of place you can either stay to yourself in your spot or head up to the farm and do an animal feeding or horseback riding (to name a few experiences). You can then learn as little or as much as you want! It’s really a beautiful, one of a kind place. Thanks Tim and Michelle ♥️

Bar SZ ranch was great! The proximity to Pinnacles National Park was the main draw, but having a creek and a communal kitchen was icing on the top. My kids enjoyed with with the dogs, cars, cows and horses!

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful spot. Lots of cute animals. Wifi. Hosts were helpful when needed and otherwise not around which was nice. Porta potty smelled good? Thats right you heard me. Kitchen had cheerful string lights, running water, and electricity. It is about a 20 min drive to the park but a beautiful drive.

My 9 year old daughter and I stayed in the glamping tent! It was very cozy and could sleep many more people than just she and I. The kitchen facilities were close and helpful! I wish there was a way to shower if we stayed additional days and I needed a mirror to put in my contacts. I didn’t realize there wasn’t a bathroom building, just a porta potty and handwashing station and an outdoor kitchen. We met very nice other families, people drove to Pinnacles which is right near by. It was lovely to be more away from it all and I’d love to come back again!!

We had a great time tent camping here! Just about every other tent site was taken up during our stay, but they felt spaced out enough to not be an issue. The shared kitchen area was super convenient. We did get some curious critters sniffing around our tent at night (maybe gophers or the farm cats?), so a friendly reminder to pack away anything you don't want rifled through. Overall, the ranch is a beautiful spot near Pinnacles and is an attraction in its own right.

To start its pretty close to the Pinnacles National Park which is great. We got there at night so we weren't able to appreciate the beauty of the ranch until the next morning but man was it beautiful. The campground was nice and green with enough open space for your entire setup. There's a river nearby as well. There are animals and even pet dogs and cats that stop by to visit you. We didn't get the chance to meet them but we saw the cat spray water bottle 😄. There was even a kitchen area with everything you'd need to have your breakfast, lunch or dinner and a communal fire pit for relaxing afterwards. Not only that but they took our reservation at the very last minute and were super quick and nice about it. I loved everything about the stay here and it was totally worth every penny. I can't wait to return with my family and spend some more time there.

This was a beautiful property near Pinnacles NP! It offered us a standard campsite with a community kitchen had we needed it, as we had our trailer. Toilets were clean and hand washing stations stocked. Beautiful sunsets too!! We will be back.

Must Do when in Central California!

I could not recommend Bar SZ Ranch more highly - this is a must do when visiting Pinnacles National Park!! We stayed in a Glamping Tent and they had everything that we could need - comfortable beds, lots of warm blankets for the chilly nights, a light and space heater, wi-fi, and a covered kitchen area that was perfect for a post-hike picnic on a warm, sunny day. My kids and I have never seen so many stars - it was an absolute treasure to get to stargaze with them in such a beautiful spot. We went for a long hike in Pinnacles in the morning/early afternoon and then came back to learn to shoot BB Guns and do archery with Tim and then to learn how to care for the animals on the farm with Michelle. They spent the whole afternoon with us teaching us about ranch life and sharing their love of the land and animals with us. Both were so warm and welcoming, and so passionate about what they do. We loved Pinnacles, but my kids, husband, and I all loved our time at the ranch even more! They made our trip to California so special and fun, and I'll be recommending this stay to all of my family and friends.

My family and I absolutely LOVED staying at Bar SZ Ranch! We stayed in our campervan in site 1 and it was so beautiful and peaceful. So private and close to Pinnacles where we hiked 10 miles with our 10 and 7y old! Michelle was amazing, so friendly, knowledgable, inviting and generous with her time, teaching us about the animals and showing us around the farm. Tim was welcoming and kind, facilitating horse and sheep feedings. The kids were over the moon with the animals, including playing with bunnies and baby kittens! We would definitely recommend and come back!

As soon as you turn off the road from Airline Hwy on to Old Hernandez Rd, you are transported to another world. Bar SZ ranch is a hidden gem and the surroundings will take your breath away. We arrived as the sun was setting and our entire car fell silent, all of us completely enthralled by the indescribable beauty at Golden Hour of our surroundings. We loved our stay at the campground but know that the camp sites are VERY close to one another. You will hear your fellow campers' every word. We were lucky in that everyone was polite and respectful and turned in around 9pm but it could be a potential issue if there were one (or more) rowdy groups. We were lucky enough to meet Kailey who showed us newborn kittens and let us meet some of the rabbits. Tim and Michelle were both super friendly and accommodating as well. My tip for visiting/hiking at the Pinnacles is to go either super early or later in the day, around 4:30pm when the day crowds have gone. The park entrance fee is $30 and good for 7 days. Also, the campground store on site has a few essentials if you forgot anything but aren't keen to make the drive out to Hollister.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay in the glamping tent on Bar SZ Ranch. The tent space is large, bunk beds are cozy, and there was power in the tent (plus a fan)! The communal kitchen provided everything we needed (water, propane stove, microwave, toaster, sink, tables/chairs), and made packing/unpacking a cinch! The hosts were great, and so were the animals :)

We took our RV to Bar SZ for three nights. We spent a day in Pinnacles but the rest of the time was enjoying the ranch. Tim and Michelle are absolutely amazing. We did not expect the adventure that we experienced. They are excellent with kids. The kids got to spend time with and help fees the rabbits, sheep, goats, horses, and cats. They also got to check out the cattle up in the pasture. My daughter was able to spend an afternoon shooting a BB gun and bow/arrows for the first time, and got really accurate during her experience. There is so much space to ride bikes, and the river is just steps away for relaxing. We also met a lot of great campers, and the communal fire was a nice place to connect and have s’mores. We also checked out the rental house on the property—what a great spot to host a big family or friends get together. We can’t wait to go back.

Camping at Bar SZ Ranch was amazing! The owners were so kind and accommodating and took our kids to see baby chicks, bunnies, and newly born kittens :) The campsite was open and spacious and the camp kitchen was super helpful! There was a wash station, fresh water, grills, and plenty of electrical power for small appliances. We had an amazing outdoor dinner followed by smores on the group campfire. Highly recommend!

We loved camping here! Perfect place to go camping with kids. The land was huge and beautiful. The communal kitchen with MANY amenities was a huge plus and getting to interact with the animals and help feed them was an even bigger plus. The camp sites are somewhat close but far enough to not completely hear what’s going on in your neighbors area. There’s a river within very short walking distance. We bought a rack of ribs to cook one night which was delicious! The pickup process so very easy. We will definitely be back very soon!

Amazing camping on a working ranch

Campsite #6 - Camp Near Pinnacles National Park
We took our RV to Bar SZ for three nights. We spent a day in Pinnacles but the rest of the time was enjoying the ranch. Tim and Michelle are absolutely amazing. We did not expect the adventure that we experienced. They are excellent with kids. The kids got to spend time with and help fees the rabbits, sheep, goats, horses, and cats. They also got to check out the cattle up in the pasture. My daughter was able to spend an afternoon shooting a BB gun and bow/arrows for the first time, and got really accurate during her experience. There is so much space to ride bikes, and the river is just steps away for relaxing. We also met a lot of great campers, and the communal fire was a nice place to connect and have s’mores. We also checked out the rental house on the property—what a great spot to host a big family or friends get together. We can’t wait to go back.

Close but far from Pinnacles bustle

I was solo on this camping trip, and even though I’m used to camping with my wife and four kids, I really loved this off-the-beaten-path campsite on a ranch! I loved hiking the trails around the ranch, visiting with the horses, sheep, goats, dogs, and cats, and exploring the creek. It’s 20 minutes from Pinnacles NP and I loved camping away from the business of the park campground, shuttles, and crowds. I have seasonal allergies, and the cut grass, hay, and dust from the ranch made my nose run and eyes itch, but the common kitchen, facilities, and quiet made this a place that would stay again.
