We had a perfect stay at Camp Coyote! It’s beautiful and easy to find. Our campsite was spacious and far enough from the other campers. We really felt like we had a private spot. The twinkle lights at night were a really cute addition! I will definitely stay here again next time in Joshua Tree.

CAMP COYOTE ACRES
We stayed at Camp Coyote Acres for the weekend to celebrate my son's birthday and everyone had a great time. Everyone loved the MX track! The kids enjoyed hitting the golf balls and playing around the campground. We also really enjoyed staying somewhere that does something so wonderful as rescuing animals. We hope to be back again!

Barebones amenity wise compared to larger campsites bc there isn’t running water but very eclectically charming, quiet, spacious and private. The open views are vast and sunsets are beautiful. Unit 1 has its own bonfire pit with swinging grill, electricity, cell service, cement platform with bordering ledge with large picnic table are excellent perks. Attentive host showed my kids their hogs, rooster and other pets. They’re there if you need them but out of sight otherwise. 45 min drive to Joshua Tree Park & 30 min to grocery stores.

Camp Coyote Acres is situated in the gorgeous Johnson Valley and the host has put together a nice set up for camping. However, be forewarned if you are planning to camp here and you are spending the day exploring Joshua Tree National Park. The site is not really close to the Park. The listing says it's near Joshua Tree but it's at least 45 minutes drive from the main entrance, and over an hour drive from the 29 Palms gate of the Park.
We discovered this much to our chagrin as we had spent the day in the Park and had no idea that the camp was this far away. Unfortunately for us, the host doesn't send out any information explaining this well beforehand, and he doesn't even bother to send out any directions on how to get to his place. Camp Coyote Acres doesn't show up on Google, so you would think he would know that and make sure that all people who book are given detailed directions upon booking so they can plan accordingly.
Thus, we had no idea that we were leaving the park too late to get there before dark, which soon caused us much stress and consternation. Cel phone connection can be hard to come by in Joshua Tree so we could only get a hold of him after we left the park. His directions were really basic...he told us to go up 247 but there's no signs on the main road saying 247...it was actually called by another name. He said to turn left at Cholla street...there's no street sign for Cholla St. He must surely be aware of this right?
Eventually we figured it out, but by this time it was pitch black, freezing cold and windy. Nobody was there to greet us but we eventually got settled. I texted him about using the kitchen he had advertised but never heard back and had no idea where it was or if it was open. I was hoping to get a quick tour of the place, maybe see some of his rescue animals, but he messaged me back only the next day saying he only makes an appearance during business hours. Whatever.
I will say the set up is nice with a wooden platform, picnic table and led lights to make the place cozy. We lit a fire in the fire ring, had dinner, set up the tent and slept like a baby while listening to the coyotes howl from the nearby mountains. All good.
However, we never saw one rescue animal and nobody ever said hello, thanks, see you again, or whatever.
I can tell the hosts have put thought and effort into their camp and I commend them for that. However, they need to make it clear to potential guests that their place is not that near to Joshua Tree, and at the very least, send out detailed directions to their place via email when guests do book. And also tell them that if they come after a certain time, that nobody will be there to greet them or help them out or that the kitchen will be closed. That's how most people do it in the hospitality business.

Always an epic adventure here. Mike and Trenton and Heather are wonderful people and the land is breathtaking. I’ve seen some of the best stats and sunsets of my life here. Going back again soon!

Camp Coyote Acres is easy to find, and a great launching pad to check out Joshua Tree National Park. Took us about 30-45 minutes to drive to the park entrance from the campsite.

My first booking with hipcamp and it was awesome! The host handled my last minute request and even informed of some potential And weather coming to ensure we would enjoy the booking. Directions were perfect, location amazing, and a just enough to see/do on site. The perfect weekend getaway for us, and the hosts were so friendly with us and our son, even asking if our son wanted to try their snowboard and spend time interacting with us. We had a blast, hiking through Joshua tree one day and snowboarding the next! Go figure!

We had an incredible experience at Camp Coyote Acres! Mike was very warm and welcoming, and he taught us a lot about the area that we didn't know about. I highly recommend taking them up on the off-roading tour in the buggy. It's totally worth it! While the camp is close to Joshua Tree, there's quite a lot to explore and discover nearby. We'll definitely stay here again!

We showed up in the dark after everyone had gone to sleep, but the string lights+ moonlight were more than enough to set up camp. The fire ring was very welcomed as it was a cold night. When we woke up we found ourselves looking over Johnson Valley. It was a beautiful site and we'd happily return.

Just book this place. It's got everything you need (bathroom, fire pit with grill rack, gas grill, picnic table, solar string lights) + an amazing host + beautiful sunsets and sunrises + cool art. Only stayed for 1 night but the memories will remain.

Trenton’s hospitality and place really made our trip to J-Tree. Dope spot. We had a blast. Definitely take Trenton up on the dune buggy ride. It was sick!! Look forward to coming back. Will be here again for sure!

We had a great time! Access to awesome off road trails right from the site. Fun site with all sorts of interesting creations around. Kids enjoyed the dirt bike track and the animals! Mike (the host) was super helpful as we had some trailer problems and he spent a couple hours helping me fix it! highly recommend

We had a great time at Camp Coyote Acres. We didn't know that November was such a big time for off-roading, hence we will be coming back again to actually go off-roading during our stay.
Trenton showed us around and gave us the coolest experience with the ride through the desert.
It does get very chilly and windy at night in the winter months so make sure to bring an RV or a camper van instead of tents during winter.

Site was great! Being able to jump on quads (kids too) and razor and drive ALL over on safe, quiet trails was a blast. Trenton was so helpful with a trailer issue, soent hours trying to helpp us get it fixed. Really amazing host!

This was our first time using Hipcamp. Absolutely loved it! Especially the feeling of it being more personal than the government owned campgrounds.
Welcoming and caring hosts that made you feel safe, also they were checking in on us to make sure everything was smooth and they gave us tips on what to do + much more that contributed to a great experience.
Now we will stay here every time we want to visit the Joshua tree area.

Great campsite in Johnson's Valley. The camp is very quiet and not crowded. It has only 2 sites available. The camp has basic amenities for a primitive camping. Our campsite had a large picnic table with 2 benches, fire pit with grill rack and 5-6 chairs to enjoy the camp fire at eve. Bring ur own canopy tent, camping tent, flashlights/ lanterns, firewood and/or charcoal, and gas stove and/or grill. Bring enough water for washing, cleaning, and ur cooking needs as there no water hook up on site. Host site also has small farm (pigs, chickens, cats, turkey, dogs) , so ur kids might enjoy this small farm tour! U can also arrange for a small customized tour around the area to ur liking ( shooting range, sand dunes tour on vortex, explore local points, etc..) Sand dunes tour should be ordered online as it needs some preparation. Overall we were very satisfied and would definitely camp there again in a future!!! Just come well prepared and u surely will enjoy it as much as we did. And if u forget anything by accident, just ask Trenton (the host) and he would help u out, if he has it (we forgot charcoal and he brought us some, so we could enjoy the campfire at night and make smores!!)

The site was really thoughtfully laid out. It was easy to access and it was great for stargazing at night. I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to others. I did not get a chance to meet Trenton during my short one-night stay, but he was responsive by phone.

Trenton was a great host! The facilities were clean & maintained. The chairs around the campfire were a nice addition. There were some animal noises that kept some of us up, but it was manageable. FYI The site is about 40 mins from Joshua Tree National Park. Overall a good experience.

Coyote Acres was a gem! We got the whole site to ourselves and it was the perfect private getaway. Lucy the pig was a sweetheart and their turkey is beautiful. A lot of interesting art and things to see. Great sunset view and there happened to be fireworks at night. Will definitely be back!

I was really hoping for a diamond in the rough, but the site was just rough. We wanted an offbeat place to watch a meteor shower and the desert and night sky views did not disappoint. The concrete slab, picnic table and fire pit were good (site #1). We brought our own EZ up (based on a tip from a prior reviewer), so that was clutch. However, the site itself needs upkeep. There was just way too much broken glass and trash at the site; it was more junky than eclectic. With smaller kids, this was not a good mix: found my two year old holding a broken shot glass. In addition, the water for the bathroom sink was not operating. Never met the host, but he did provide good directions. All in all, the desert seems to be reclaiming this site and my guess is that there is just not enough time for upkeep. Bummer...
