Amazing Site

The landscape is totally stunning. This place is so worth it. Absolutely beautiful. Close to Joshua Tree! My kids loved it. Lots of big rocks to scramble around on. We were there in spring while the desert was in bloom. It was absolutely stunning.

My family and I absolutely loved the Sanctuary! Every single thing about our stay was amazing: the views, the gardens, the boulders, and our very friendly hosts! This is the best Hipcamp I've ever stayed at, hands down, in terms of facilities, sights (and sites), and hospitality. Shayna and the numerous other stewards of BGS's land were so warm and welcoming, as though you were immediately family, yet they also gave us privacy too in our beautiful cave space. Their garden and common spaces are not to be missed, as well as seeing their many animals and the Stack Rock Cave! Our Buddha Cave was so tranquil and unique, and we paid extra for the propane fire pit, which was absolutely worth it. Our family will for sure be going back to the Sanctuary in the future!

This was such an amazing experience! Waking up to the sunrise was the cherry on top. It was so beautiful and I felt safe as a solo female traveler. Shayna was so kind as well! I highly recommend.

Solo Camping at Buddha Cave

Absolutely beautiful, peaceful, serene, and just what I needed for this past weekend. My father’s 10th year deathversay and late mother’s birthday was this past weekend. I needed solitude and to just be with my emotions. Staying at Buddha Cave gave me just that. The space I needed to just be. Shayna & the other folks I saw drive by were extremely friendly, and kind. They gave me my space but reassured me that they were close if I needed anything. I slept one night in the cave and the second night I camped outside the cave just to see more of the stars. Both places were magical. Thank you Shayna again, for allowing me to stay here. I will be back to show off your space with my family. 🩷

The campsite was great! It was beautiful with the giant boulders surrounding it. There were a few other people hiking around but it was still peaceful and quiet. Would definitely return!

Nice campsite in a rock enclosure - if you pitch a tent it needs to be small and self standing. The Sanctuary is great - super friendly chill people and a pretty interesting history. The location is also really cool - lots of giant boulder mounds to explore and some nice walks on the property which is over 600 acres and similar in landscape to the north end of the Joshua Tree reserve. Campsites are private and spaced out - you won’t have to worry about loud neighbours. All in all I’d recommend it - it’s quirky and unique and beautiful.

Learn to be stoic from the masters!

Peaceful, serene, and tranquil are the first words that come to mind, but these words are still nowhere close to doing it justice. This is my second trip back here and both of them have been meaningful ones. This is a place you come to escape from people, your everyday routine lives, the hustle and bustle, and more importantly, a place where you come to find yourself among the endless sea of boulders. Can't wait for my next trip back here.

My stay at the Buddha Cave was a lovely experience. At night, it felt like a beautiful solitude in the middle of the desert. I loved lying out on the boulders and gazing up at the stars. Sleeping in the cave felt so peaceful. Watching the sunrise in the morning was incredible.

Stunning, peaceful get away.

Our rv spot at Overlook had the most spectacular view across the hills and distant mountains. It was very private and so peaceful. We arrived late in the evening and missed the sunset but the full moon, night stars and sunrise were amazing. We were greeted by a lovely young woman who drove ahead of us to take us to the site. The dirt road was pretty bumpy so beware if your vehicle is low slung! All in all we loved it. Thank you hosts. We highly recommend a visit!

Lovely views and quiet

We had our teardrop trailer in the Overlook campsite. What a beautiful spot! The view was phenomenal, especially during sunrise and sunset. We were there in late February which seemed like a perfect time because the weather was great and there were many wildflowers due to recent rain. We also saw some wildlife, including a cute family of quail. The hosts, Shayna and Robert were very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We are definitely going back again. We camp in many types of places and this hip camp not only offered a great site, but there was more privacy than any place we’ve been before.

Overlook was phenomenal!

The views were spectacular! It can get pretty windy sometimes at Overlook so be prepared. Shayna was very welcoming and communication was excellent. Porta potty was very clean and well maintained. No water available but we brought our own. If you’re used to Overlanding and not on a budget this would be the perfect place for you!

The Boulder Valley and Yoga Deck

Had a wonderful relaxing weekend among the boulders. As I was told Shayna met me on arrival and showed me to the site. The weather was fine, bugs buzzing, and the wind blowing. Barely saw another person on this solo trip and that’s just fine with me. Tested out some new gear, made some meals, had a few beers and walked around the rocks and hills. Truly a beautiful place! It’s sort of like what the park wants to be but better and less people. Had a random visit from an old dog. He was pretty amiable and after I gave him some water he stuck around half the day napping in my shade and even followed me on one of my walks. Will definitely remember this one and next time maybe return with family and friends. Go till the pavement stops and then go some more…. Thank you Shayna…

We had a wonderful time at Boulder Gardens. Such a beautiful piece of land. Rick was so great and the other people from the community were so kind and helpful. They gave us great tips of cool sights to see and awesome hiking trails around the campsite. There is so much art and beauty to see. This place is definitely a hidden gem tucked away in the dessert. Amazing spot for stargazing, great visibility! The weather was great when we stayed there in early February. During the day it was sunny but still cool and the nights were chilly but nothing a few layers couldn’t help. We felt very relaxed and peaceful during our stay. It was wonderful to get out of the city for a bit. The campsite was very clean and well kept. The portable restrooms were the cleanest portable toilets i’ve ever seen! Lol. The boulder valley and yoga deck was a wonderful spot. Felt very secluded but still close enough to the main area so if we needed something or had a question we could walk over fairly quickly. We loved to see the peacocks and animals. Since the spot is fairly close to the main community area, we had a few dogs visit once in a while. One big black dog kept coming back and would nap at our campsite and keep us company. He was such a sweetheart. Overall 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a little weekend camping trip. We will definitely be back again and bring some friends!

Site is very peaceful and remote. The caretakers are very friendly and there is so much land that you barely see other people if you don't want to. Gorgeous landscape. Will definitely go back!

We tent camped at the overlook and it was amazing! The view was great, there was running water and a restroom nearby. The area was very clean and well maintained. We explored the area and found the boulder cave which was pretty cool. We ran into a few people that live in the area and everyone was very friendly.

A True Sanctuary! 💎

LOVED my stay at Boulder Gardens Sanctuary! It is truly that, a sanctuary garden of endless boulders to explore. I stayed at one of the camp sites and could spend the entire day in complete solitude with nature, or go up to the community area and chat with some of the kind and welcoming residents happy to share stories from the land. I did the guided hike with Robert - cannot recommend enough!! After spending my first couple days exploring the rocks solo, he took me on a path I would never dare explore on my own - through tons of caves and cool rock areas, sharing tons of plant knowledge along the way. (If you aren’t used to bouldering, wearing gloves helped a lot). It’s such a magical place, I wish I had more time to spend there enjoying the deep peace and stillness on the land. This was my first visit to the area and spending time in the desert, it was such a stunning landscape to connect with. I can’t believe it’s real, and I can’t wait to go back! If you are someone who values deep connection and reverence with land, you must stay at Boulder Gardens. From the endlessly massive boulders to the tiny magical plants, it’s a place of endless wonder.

Instructions onsite are non existent so definitely arrive well before dark. Road is rough too. Would never make it if it rained. . Don’t take Google Maps instructions how to get there as it will send you on a curvy route that is even worse

Wow , just wow! Booking and coordinating with the host was easy and arriving there and seeing this beautiful spot was mind blowing. Such a deserted beauty! Great for taking in the beauty of the land and sitting in piece and also going on little adventures and hikes. I was there with my wife and 2 kids 6&3. Highly recommend!

Such an amazing place. The people were wonderful and I loved petting their dogs and interacting with the animals. Highly recommend. A true hidden gem. I would recommend ear plugs for the morning since the roosters will start pretty early.
