The Ascension Ranch was incredible. They were very supportive hosts and had the perfect balance of helping us find our way and cultivating a gorgeous spot, while also respecting our privacy and letting us have a much needed friends gathering. The land was beautiful and we LOVED the animals. We even had the BEST dog hang with us at our campsite, which not only added to our joy of the place, but kept us feeling safe and secure. 10/10 worth the trip. We're planning another trip in the Summer.

Overall we had a pretty good experience.
I was expecting a permanent structure of a bathroom, but the porta potties did the job. Bonus for the effort of the owner to move them to our site because we were the only ones staying there (winter).
The best highlight is the incredibly convenient access to the trails for hiking and mountain biking.
Check-in was easy enough; the owner was communicative.
The biggest concern was getting to and from the site from the main gate, which required interactions with large, barking dogs. They ended up being very lovely and quite affectionate, but we knew how to speak to calm them and how to scratch behind the ears to prove we were friendly. It just wasn’t great being forced into that situation. If you’re scared of dogs, you would be less than thrilled with it.

Lover’s Creek is so beautiful! While it was pretty chilly overnight, the privacy and cuteness of the animals made up for it. We really enjoyed how quiet the premises were. Thank you for the quick stay!

I am writing this review to warn everyone that there is no longer a tent/yurt set up at Lovers Creek. When I asked the man about it, he said that a guest had brought the tent it wasn't included in the site, which is a lie if you look at all the reviews and pics there used to be a tent that stayed on the wooden platform. Luckily I brought my tent just in case so we didn't need to leave. The road getting onto his property is very narrow and beautiful and I wouldn't have been comfortable taking my car, I was glad to have a truck. The restroom is down at the "entrance" and a 10 min walk to the Lovers Creek site. We took the truck each time. There were cute animals to see on the property. Roads are very dusty! The best part about this place and the main reason I might come back is for the privacy. After check in, no one bothered us and the nearest campsite maybe 500 feet away across the other side.

The hosts were very friendly and bathrooms were very clean! My group did not have any issues with the horses that previous reviews mentioned. The campsite is very remote and the closest town is about a 30 min drive, so I recommend packing all food with you and planning to do activities at the campsite. I would also recommend checking in during the daylight to avoid confusion with the gates and finding your campsite. As a heads up, the lake shore was about a 1 mile walk from the campsite. Happy camping!

We had a great time! The campsite was clean and well maintained and so were the bathrooms! We were walking distance to a lake, which was fun and as a group of 8 with 4 dogs, had plenty of space there for us. We also were allowed to have a campfire, which was fun and enjoyed getting to know the camp livestock guardian dog, Cairo!

Such a beautiful campsite! Eagles Nest was at the top of the ranch with beautiful views of the sunset. Very cozy and private. My friends and I had a great time here (: Would recommend, and would go again!

The site was perfect for a larger group and 10 year old pup. Rick was very welcoming and kind! Being at the top, the site had a beautiful view of the sunset and stars, felt private, and had full sun during the day. the only heads up I’d give is that the road from the entrance up to the site itself (about a 2-3 min drive) is not suitable for cars with lower suspension. My car was fine and clear the dips, but there are 3 prominent dips close to the site that could potentially ruin your car!

Did not have any bathrooms and was not close to water as indicated on reservation site map. When I asked for a refund the host ignored me. Save your money don't camp here.

Overall we had a fun weekend with two families, a dog and two 6 year olds.
Pros: dog friendly! Off the beaten path. Access to the lake (a 10-15 minute hilly hike with hills during dry season). 5 minute drive to Fulsom Lake state recreation area for asker access to the lake. A very friendly caretaker who told us about the land and the animals on it. Cool to see on of the horses roaming freely. Super sweet GIANT guard dog that keeps away predators from the property.
Considerations: there is quite a bit of horse poop around the camp sites- I kind of enjoy the earthy smell, so that was not a problem for me. However it does come with quite a bit of flies.
A few mosquitoes but not too bad in July.
Heavenly Oaks was not super flat. It wasn’t a problem for me but some in our party felt like it wasn’t optimal for sleeping on the ground.

This was my first time camping and I brought my 6yo son. We had a great time! Definitely good for beginners. The hosts were friendly and responsive. There was some noise from other campers and boat parties but nothing bothersome. Open fire was not allowed in late July though the other campers seemed to be allowed to have one. Our bench needed repairs but it wasn't a real issue. The water was about a half mile walk away and was warm for Cali water. Overall it was a good trip. Thanks Ascension! We will be returning!

Our stay was absolutely incredible. Arrived close to 10pm at eagles nest for tent camping and the two women Lilly & Kelly were so patient and accommodating navigating us to our spot and made sure the spot was replenished and well kept. We did the petting zoo and got to meet so many cute animals, learn their names, and feed some. Then we did horse back riding around the lake where we got take these beautiful creatures to some amazing views.
All in all we will be back again. The staff treated us like friends and treated us with great hospitality.
Definitely recommend. Can't wait for our next trip.

Moonlight Oaks
We had a blast here! Staff was so friendly and the animals on the farm were adorable. We stayed two nights with two kiddos and a dog. There is no shower so be prepared to either bring a portable shower or wash off in the lake. Bathrooms are at the front of the property so we needed to walk which didn’t bother us. We stayed at Moonlight and I will say it is all dirt. The kind of powder dirt that gets EVERYWHERE. But if you’re okay with that then it’s an amazing camping site and secluded from the others. All around great stay and we plan on coming back in spring!

I loved tent camping at the site. The views were amazing and it’s so peaceful. We were a group of 15 and fit perfectly, definitely room for more if needed. Over all we all agreed the privacy was one of our favorite things about this place because we were a loud group. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back again.

July 4th Weekend at Ascensions Camp – A Relaxing Getaway with Family and Friends
We spent the July 4th weekend at Ascensions Camp and had a great experience overall. With a larger group, we chose to book the Meadow View site, which worked out perfectly for our needs. The booking process was smooth, and communication with the hosts was fast and helpful.
One of the highlights was the lake—just a short 10-minute walk from our campsite. It felt peaceful and semi-private since we only shared access with a few neighboring campers, which made it even more enjoyable.
The only drawback for us was the location of the restroom and potable water area. It was a bit of a drive from our site, and we had to open and close a gate each time to make sure the horses didn’t get out. Not a huge issue, but something to keep in mind if you’re planning to stay at Meadow View.
The kids had a blast visiting the farm animals—chickens, rabbits, cows, and horses. I was a little concerned beforehand, thinking the animals might roam freely near the campsites (based on some photos), but they were all safely secured in their pens.
Overall, it was a relaxing and memorable trip. The peaceful setting, friendly environment, and farm experience made it a fun getaway for both adults and kids. We’d definitely consider coming back!

Our favorite part about Ascension Ranch was the quiet and the spacing from other sites. We visited in July which is very, very dry in this area. Our goal was quiet for 4th of July with our dog and it was indeed quiet. I’d imagine it’s very beautiful in springtime as shown in their photos with wildflowers

Our camp site was private and nicely set up. We enjoyed the birds, trees and star gazing. The lake is easy to get to. So fun to visit the chickens, cow and adorable calf. Didn't get a visit from any of the horses, but we made do ;) Looking forward to staying again!

Overall we had a great time. The campsite was lovely and shaded, and only a 5 minute walk to the lake. The main drawbacks were that it wasn't easily clear where exactly our campsite was, or where the water and bathrooms were (we did eventually get directions from the ranch hand). The filtered water also stopped running every evening until around 10am the next day.

Amazing views from Eagles Nest! So convenient to have a bathroom & sink, and trash can nearby. We were able to walk to the lake from the main part of the camp site. We got the large firewood bundle and was enough for two fires.

Hidden Oaks
We had Hidden Oaks reserved, but once we got there we thought Hold Your Horses looked more secluded and private! We asked the host if we could switch since it was the same price and it wasn’t booked, and he kindly let us move! The stay was beautiful- unbelievably hot but the lake was a lifesaver. We had a great time and will be returning someday!

The 2 ladies and 1 gentleman who were there helping host during our stay were very kind and involved us in lots of fun things for the kids, including visits with the horses, cow, chickens, and bunnies. I was surprised to learn upon arrival that the bathrooms were at the entrance of the property (only 2, and one went out while we were there) and not at our site like it seemed to advertise, so we had to time our trips to the toilet for #2. We also were not clearly explained the trail to the lake so we trudged through a barbed wire fence and prickly brush the first day. Going in early June, everything was very dry and we constantly battled stickers. The tree at our site did not provide much shade. Since we were the last camp site on the grounds, we had a surprising amount of people showing up at random times and get out of their car and talk to us. This wasn't ideal as our "potty" was squatting by a tree or car with very little privacy in a setting that was flat and open, very much a horse pasture.

This site was amazing!! The walk to the bathroom isn’t half bad (and the bathroom was extremely clean!!), it was pretty secluded and not far from the lake! Will definitely be coming back to this amazing place! Super cool to see the animals and give them a few treats and bonus points for the sweet ranch dog Kyro!

Wow this place is breathtaking. Incredible views, an hour away from civilization and some very welcoming and friendly staff.
We took advantage of the trails, lake swimming and general camping fun. The crew also brought over their horses for us to pet and one night their guard dog came over to enjoy our company and get some ear scratches.
Sadly there was a fire ban, so no campfire.
Must know:
-the directions sent are so detailed. Follow them and you shouldn’t get lost (like we did). We also found a hand painted sign by the restrooms that had a helpful map of each campsite.
-plan your bathroom trips. Yea there is a flush toilet. But it was a bit of a walk from our site (3-5 minute) and there was only one toilet since the second had an out of order sign.
-double check supplies and gear because you are pretty far from stores/gas stations.
We learned later the crew offers trail rides with the horses, there are geese, rabbits, chickens, dogs, cat, the whole McDonald song to check out, and really friendly people that work here. Every interaction started and ended with huge smiles and they were so helpful.
Oh!! And most importantly, they were SO fast with digital questions. Within 5 minutes there was a detailed and clear answer to any and every question we had before and during our trip.
If you come here, you won’t regret it and we cannot wait for our next trip here!
