The Ranch has many varied sites to explore from oak woodlands to pine covered woods. The ownership of the land has been held since 1883 by the Summit Lime Company and was until the 1930's the site of several lime quarries one of which was used to supply material for the Owens valley to Los Angeles aquaduct. Current utilization is for recreation, private hunting club, timber production, and cattle grazing. The campground was built in 1967 to provide a location for church, non-profit, and youth groups to enjoy a private, and safe location for outdoor recreation activities. Camping is restricted to family and group activities. The campground has 17 sites a comfort station, water hook-ups, fire ring, and 4X8 foot stone BAR-B-Que. In order to provide a private experience no two groups are scheduled at the same time. An ideal group size is 15 to 150 persons.

We had our wedding here over the weekend and I can only say good things about this place. Clean, nice bathroom and showers, huge fire pit, plenty of picnic benches, and large spots to camp at. It is a beautiful property and glad we were able to have our family and friends here. Steve, who showed us the property and campground was extremely helpful and generous. Glad we were able to meet with him a few times and during our stay. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Amazing site! We have held an event here for 4 years in a row now with no plan of relocating. This place feels like a proper forest service managed campground with showers and bathrooms, but with the exclusivity and seclusion of being in deep wilderness. Can't wait to go again next year!

We love this Hip Camp site!!! It is private, quiet (unless we make it otherwise!), beautiful and easy to access. Steve and crew are great hosts and we look forward to coming back next year! PS-Steve makes freshly baked cookies which are delicious!

Me and my group of production friends hosted a Field Trip out at the site. Everyone had an amazing time. Steve and his team were wonderful host. The proper working bathhouse with hot water showers was a huge treat for everyone camping. Ample amount of easily accessible firewood and the fire pit was a huge amenity. The wilderness seclusion with easy access to the town along with the ability to make noise not disturbing anyone is the best. We had an awesome weekend hanging out with friends. Steve was a great host who was in constant communication and ready to answer questions before we left. He checked in throughout our stay to make sure everything was going well. The camp was peaceful and secluded and we loved it.

This spot was everything we had hoped it would be. Find if trees do all if the tents had a shady spot and the large fire pit and bbq made for a great hangout soot. Steve was very helpful and was always available to answer questions or send updates. Highly recommend this spot. We will be back in the future.

First I will just say that the host Steve is amazing! He worked with me for months to answer all my questions. Our biggest concern was weather, and this camp is at a high enough elevation it doesn’t get too hot even in July. We had a beautiful womens conference up there with 25 people and there was a ton of space, we could’ve fit 10-15 more comfortably. Steve warned us the flying bugs were starting to come out so we brought spray and thermacells, worked perfectly. Make sure to be really clear with guests about instructions to get there!! We’re looking forward to coming back!

Southern CA Camping Perfection

Everything about this campground is perfect and the hosts are awesome. We had a group of about 30 people, adults and kids, for a long weekend and couldn’t have asked for anything more. Great communication from Steve in advance, plenty of on-site support, fantastic amenities, and lots of privacy. The property is incredibly well-maintained and the hot showers are a ridiculous luxury. We were bummed that Kern County had a fire ban in effect, but it’s totally understandable as conditions were hot, windy, and dry. Next time we’ll book for earlier in the season when there will have been rain more recently. Do be prepared to see a lot of wildlife (bears! foxes! overly friendly squirrels!) and take appropriate precautions as advised. Can’t wait to return!

This camp site is incredible. There are hot showers and real toilets, with running water throughout the site. There are two people that come and pick up trash everyday as well, so you don't need to worry about animals getting into it. You can be as loud as you like as nobody is close, however that means you are driving down a dirt road for a mile or two. Overall this site is incredible and would highly recommend anyone stay here.

Bear Spring was perfect for our small gathering - plenty of room to spread out and enjoy ourselves in near-total isolation. HOT showers and flushing toilets while camping? Amazing! Steve was very welcoming and I would highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a decently sized single-group campsite on a huge property. Thanks for everything!

In July 2021, 25 of us stayed here for a family get-together. The campsite is beautiful and peaceful! It is large and quite shady. When you view it from google earth you are cheated, it does not do the camp justice. Everyone was surprised by how much nicer it is. There are hoses at every campsite with abundant spring water. Some spots have fewer trees to accommodate larger RVs. The firepit speaks for itself, WOW!!! The staff was super friendly and helpful. Communication was great from beginning to end. Directions made it easy to find and Steve was there to make sure no one got lost. He shared his information about the area and what there was to do. He answered all our questions and said he would be back the next day to see if we needed anything. One draw back for some is that you are off the grid. Most were surprised, but decided they loved being unplugged for a few days. (You can get service a couple miles back on the road if you need to.) We would all stay here again and you should too!

Pristine campground!

Everything was great about this campground - from the initial and ongoing communication responsiveness of Steve (who works with Ted), to the accuracy of the description and photos, the cleanliness of the property and facilities, and the daily unintrusive trash pickup. We really did have a perfect weekend there, with great weather, and the few bugs that were there never really became anything more than a minor annoyance. Don't hesitate if you're thinking of booking this campground, it's well worth the price!

We loved everything about camping at Bear Spring. Steve (who helps manage the property with Ted) was an absolute pleasure to communicate with. He was really responsive, answered our questions quickly, and is really knowledgeable about the area. We hosted a post wedding campout celebration here with about 40 friends and Bear Spring couldn't have been any better. Plenty of camp sites, lots of fresh water sources, bathrooms are clean and hot showers work great, fire pit was awesome - really have nothing to complain about. Some other groups have complained about bugs but we had no real issues. We'll definitely be back again. Thank you Steve!

Wedding Weekend in the Woods

This spot is a true gem. My fiance (now husband) and I had to make last minute plans as our original wedding venue cancelled. We were looking to have a camping weekend with friends and family, and have our wedding one of those days. When we searched hipcamp, we found this perfect spot, and were so grateful and appreciative that the hosts were more than accommodating. The fact that the campground is a very large group site made it perfect to host up to 70 people, 60 of whom camped with us there. We had 11 RVs and about 7 tents set up. The bathrooms and hot showers were a luxury as we are used to roughing it with camping. The large fire pit was perfect for the group to gather around each night. Each site is private enough to host such a big group, and everyone could feel they had their own space. Having it all to ourselves was even more special. We had the local Tehachapi Red House BBQ cater for the event, and the whole weekend turned out wonderful. There were more than enough picnic tables to use for our group. Yes there were some bugs, but that's camping. When the breeze came through the canyon, it kept the bugs away. Numerous deer walked through the site daily which was beautiful to watch. I would highly recommend this site to anyone looking to host a group camp out. The road in is a bit steep, but everyone made it in and out okay. The owner and host are great people, and we were so lucky to be allowed to use this spot for our event. Eternally grateful!!!!

Host's assistant Steve was great help and super friendly, offered to take us up the mountain and provided great instructions ahead of time. The site has ample amount of camping space, and has a restroom facility with 3 flush toilets and 3 shower stalls, separated in men/women, and kept tidy. The women restroom toilet paper ran out earlier than men's so we had to borrow from them. Would suggest to put more toilet paper in the restrooms that the campers can get themselves. The biggest problem we had, which I already advised the camp host's assistant, is the mosquito and bugs issues. As soon as we arrived at the site, we were shocked with the amount of gnats flying all over the entire campground. It was like clouds of mosquitoes everywhere. We had mosquito repellent bracelet, patches on clothes, lit up citronella candles and sprayed bottles and bottles on us and kids, but still got bitten all over. Especially kids faces and our arms and legs, they even bit us through the long sleeve clothes. We were itchy and put on lots of medicine but still were swollen. Our group camp each year for past 10+ years, once in awhile we will come across few mosquitoes which is normal in outdoors that's why we always have sprays and candles, but this is by far the only site that has this amount of gnats flying in clouds after clouds everywhere. Honestly this site is amazing, and we absolutely love how private it is, if not for the mosquitoes problems. There was no streams or lakes close by we have no idea why they were there. I had suggested to the host to hire professional exterminator to help upkeep the site and find a better solution to get rid of these mosquitoes and make it better experience for the campers.

Bear Spring
Bear Springs is an excellent camp for large groups. It houses at least 20 different tents if not more and has a "comfort house" on the property that includes and Mens and Women's bathroom with hot showers, sinks and private stalls. The land is very secluded and has incredible star views at night. It has a LARGE fire pit with log seats positioned around it for the perfect camp fire setting. This site also has fresh spring water running to it so you can't go thirsty. It includes a smoker and many little BBQ's around the site. It also has a few swing sets and Tree swings, great for kids and large families who want to get away. You are basically in Antelope Canyon park. There are some road paths for hiking but I wouldn't wonder off the road paths, there is wildlife out here and you would rather be safe than sorry with mother nature. I visited in late May and the flower fields were in bloom. Cliffside of this area were covered with flowers and it was really incredible to see many different kinds of flowers along the canyon sides. Ted and Steve are wonderful! They will meet you and take you up to the site. Really warm welcoming guys who know the land. If you have any questions about the site let them know they are full of knowledge. I would recommend this site to anyone who has a large group of campers and is looking to get away. I hope to return myself soon!
