The best camping near Shoshone Falls guide

Overview

About

212 vertical feet of falling water roar to the depths below at the "Niagara of the West" Shoshone Falls. A natural beauty found along the Snake River in the city of Twin Falls, Shoshone Falls spans an impressive 900 ft across the water. The sheer scale of this falls system is best observed from the overlook but can also be enjoyed from the nearby hiking trails. With world-class camping just next door, Shoshone Falls has been a necessary pitstop for visitors to the region ever since it was made popular by travelers following the Oregon Trail.

When to go

The prime time to visit Shoshone Falls is between March and September, when the park's full glory is on display and the admission fee is in effect. The falls are most voluminous in the spring, thanks to melting snow, making it a spectacular season for photographers and nature enthusiasts. Summer brings warm weather perfect for picnics and hikes, but be mindful of the heat. Off-peak seasons offer a quieter experience, though with less water flow.

Know before you go

  • The entrance fee to Shoshone Falls Park is $5.00 per car, ensuring your visit supports park maintenance and facilities.
  • Admission is charged from March 30 to September, aligning with the best times to experience the park's full splendor.
  • For a seamless visit, arrive early to secure parking and avoid the crowds, especially during peak season.
  • Remember to pack sunscreen and water, as the Idaho sun can be intense, and hydration is key amid outdoor adventures.
  • Check the City of Twin Falls website for the latest updates on park conditions and any potential closures before your trip.
