Finnon Lake Recreation Area

I loved Finnon Lake. So calm and peaceful. Waking up to the lake was amazing and the night stars were enchanting. It was safe for my kids. Our camp neighbors were nice and kept to themselves. We all had a great time.

T5 - Waterfront at Finnon Point

The campsites are way too close together, no privacy, had people walking through our site constantly. No decent spots to set up the tent, the whole site was sloped downhill. Disc golf course was completely overgrown (major snake risk). Only 1 bathroom with only 2 stalls and no shower. My mom actually wet herself waiting for her turn. Theres also the "american coot" a bird that sounded like a broken car horn or deep baritone kazoo that literally makes 1 call right after the other and here's the kicker it lasts ALL NIGHT LONG so good luck getting any sleep.

We stayed from June 1st to 3rd. As always, the tranquility of nature was our constant companion. This time, there were far more birds—so amusing, chatty, and incredibly curious! We also witnessed some unusual frog choruses that kept us company all night long! On top of that, we enjoyed some pretty good fishing.

A1 - Lakeside at Finnon Point

Had a nice visit in our RV. Very peaceful. The most noise was from the bullfrogs and birds. Sites are a good size, close but not cramped.

If you’re okay with noise pollution, it’s a great spot! 9am-5pm constant construction sounds (the lake is right next to a construction site), also there was a weed-whacker that started at 8am and went for about 6 hours right next to the site as well. Otherwise, the birds, lake, fishes, and general nature is beautiful. Bathrooms are well kept. Water on site and trash/recycling. It’s a well kept area and would be beautiful if it weren’t for the construction.

Had a wonderful time at site A11. The site was on a bit of a slope which made it a little tough to find a decent tent spot. It would have been nice to set up directly near the lake but there were some ants so I settled with a different area. The lake was perfect temp for swimming and great for paddle boarding. I also had a great time taking my bike around the frisbee golf course. Word of warning about the bull frogs; they WILL keep you up at night if you're a light sleeper lol other than that I would totally come back here!

Nice place to camp. Beautiful lake and clean restrooms. A little scary getting up to the reservoir with all the construction but had a wonderful time. Highly recommend T14 away from other folks!

A12 - Lake View Pine Meadow

Lake - Good fishing, swimming, bring your water toys, kayaks, paddle boards etc. Campsites - decent size lots, potable water and bathrooms nearby. Sites don’t have much flat land for kitchen setup and provided outdoor table/bench. Bathroom is close by but no showers. Other than, this place is amazing, I highly recommend.

Great Birthday Camping

Campsite A12 has to be one of the best spots there. It was the perfect distance away from other campers while still being close enough to the water and restroom. Although I would bring a canopy for sunny days since there isn’t too much shade. The night sky was so beautiful, you get to see every little star that is out there. In the daytime we spotted various of wildlife like deers, hawks, and frogs, Had a great time here, will be back next year!

T5 - Waterfront at Finnon Point

there was someone shooting guns across the lake all day on Monday and it was difficult to even hear each other. I know that's probably not the resovior's property but it was not relaxing at all. Monday night, around 10p-12a there was construction nearby and all I could hear was the beeping of the trucks, the shaking of the large metal bucket and metal banging for 2 hours. The spot we camped at was very nice and the view was beautiful, but the roads to get in and out, even the alternative route was terrifying to drive on.

Campground and restrooms are clean. Flush toilets. Generally nice campers and day users. Dogs allowed, which is a big negative for me. Just about every campsite had dogs and they all think their dog is perfect and are oblivious or don’t care that they bark all day and go to the bathroom everywhere. And then you get the crowd with boom boxes who think everyone else wants to hear their music. And then the people who leave their kayaks and floaties on the small beach area - pull them off to the side so others can enjoy the beach too.

Great location, small campground-large sites, convenient restaurant with good food. Restrooms had been cleaned well & frequently in the past, not so much this year. Was nice to see the fire department roll through daily, our tax dollars at work keeping us safe.

It was well shaded with trees, bathroom stayed clean, our camp site was right on the water which was amazing. Our site had an incline but it said that ahead of time on the app. The weather was perfect, the whole camp ground was quiet in mid-May.

T18 - Laguna Landing

Finnon Lake is a great little lake north of Placerville. The campgrounds were clean and we appreciated having functioning, clean restrooms close by. Campground came with a picnic bench, charcoal grill, and fire pit. Overall great experience for a first time camper, we will definitely be considering coming back!

Wonderful Experience Overall

Wonderful camping experience overall. One thing I was not expecting was all the road nose. I believe do to the Mosquito rd bridge construction and utility work on Rock creek rd. And one disappointing and frustrating issue, the dog leash rule was not enforced by anyone. We had an abused rescue dog with us and have been working with the dog for several months to work out issues. One main factor for Finnon on this trip was the leash rule and it being posted everywhere on the site, on Hip Camp, and all over Finnon even stapled to the picnic tables at each site. Several camp workers came through and never enforced the leash rule. With that said we did enjoy our camping trip, the other campers, and the beautiful lake and all of the nature including the two Bald Eagles that have made Finnon there home. Yes I would come here again. Thank you to all who make Finnon available to the public to visit, camp, fish, kayak, and swim.

A11 was a beautiful site! I car camped and was able to back in an SUV without any trouble. The slight incline was not an issue when backed in. The frogs on the water at night were also nice. Good fire pit and the cleanest campground restrooms I’ve ever seen. I’ll definitely be back!

We stayed here from Sunday to Tuesday in mid-May, and it was a fantastic, tranquil getaway. The weather was absolutely perfect with highs in the upper 70s made swimming and paddleboarding amazing, and it cooled down to a crisp low 50s at night. Best of all? No mosquitoes! The grounds are incredibly well-kept (we literally watched someone spend the entire morning meticulously mowing the grass), and the bathrooms were spotless. We brought our own firewood, but it was nice to see some for sale right by the entrance. There is a great, clear trail that loops around the entire lake. We spent our time watching people fish, spotting turtles, and birdwatching. We even saw bald eagles perched up in the highest tree! I was bummed I left my discs at home because the disc golf course looked awesome. It was our puppy Indy’s very first camping trip, and he did amazing. Everyone at the campground was so respectful of the leash laws and quiet hours that it made it incredibly easy for him to follow suit. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!

We always enjoyed camping at Finnon lake. The site was clean and ready for the you. The scenery and tranquility is the best. Canoing and fishing was fantastic. We caught large mouth bass and bluegills. We already planning for next trip

Everything went very well except for the fact I forgot to bring the chairs. What a rookie move! My wife and I loved the spot and the view. Very well kept bathrooms and the other campers there were very nice and respectful! Would and are going again! Also forgot to mention our dogs loved it as well!

Beautiful site but noisy

The site is beautiful and the bathrooms were very clean. The little restaurant across the lake was great. We saw bald eagles and turtles, which made the trip very special. Unfortunately, the campground was quite noisy. We use a tent but we were next to neighbors with a caravan who ran a generator multiple times right next to us. Apart from the noise it also filled the air with diesel fumes. There was also in general a lot of yelling and music from other sites. If you are looking for a peaceful camping experience I would recommend bringing noise canceling headphones or earplugs.
