SiloSide Barn and Homestead

The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. We've named our home "SiloSide" as tribute to the magic we feel on the non-road facing, silo-side of the barn, where you'll be camping.

The lean-to can sleep 3-4 people in a cozy arrangement, as the floor is approximately 10 by 9 feet.

Thornhill Farm

Come stay on our diversified farm! We grow winter rye. There are trails to hike on Barr Hill and a great view. Swimming is nearby in Caspian Lake. Hill Farmstead brewery is just over a mile away.

Clyde River Camping

In August of 2021 we had been approached by folks wanting to camp on our property because of the beautiful views and riverfront water access. In keeping it reasonable and safe, we found HIPCAMP offered us the best venue to do so. Site #1 is camper/RV accessible with lots of room for friends, vehicles and a field to set up tents or game playing areas. If deep woods camping is what you prefer, we offer that as well. We offer free firewood, picnic tables and outhouses. Fresh water pond for cooling off and bathing. 100 acres of trails through the woods, fields and 3/4 mile of river frontage for all your outdoor activities.

Kayaking and canoeing from all of our sites (Rentals available nearby at https://www.clyderiverrecreation.com), fishing, bird and big game watching (see actual game cam pictures in our photo gallery), mountain climbing and mountain biking (Best mountain bike trails in New England available close by in Burke, Vt. (https://www.kingdomtrails.org)! Peaceful, country relaxed atmosphere.

Westmore Forest Cabin

After driving the shoreline road of Lake Willoughby, the road to access the land is a steady climb to ..... feet.  Stop and look behind you and you'll see the Western view of successive mountain ridges and Lake Willoughby.  The immediate land and surround has been in the Cole family for generations and we are honored to be the next stewards of this parcel.  We look forward to sharing the beauty of this area and this space with you.  Learn more about this land:The cabin is located 3 miles and 1,700 feet up from Lake Willoughby in the Town of Westmore. We invite you to stay! Looking behind as you drive up Coles Mountain to the land, you see views of Lake Willoughby and rolling mountains heading out to the horizon in the west.  Majestic.  Once you have traveled 3 miles and gone up 1,700 feet from Lake Willoughby, you cross a land bridge over a stream and enter a private clearing ringed with tress and forest.  This is an old orchard in the forest with an off-grid cabin.  Cozy surroundings.  Though you may hear others on surrounding properties, you don't see them.   Cross another stream and the land goes back another 10 acres into deep forest.  Magical.Outdoor activities throughout the area include hiking, skiing and mountain biking at Burke Mountain, Kingdom Trails Association, Craftsbury Outdoor Center and local Vermont State Parks, as well as kayaking, swimming, and fishing on Lake Willoughby.  Watch the sunset at Sentinel Rock.  As noted on the Vermont Department of Health's website, "Vermont has reached Step 4 of the Vermont Forward Plan. Except for international travel, travel no longer requires testing or quarantine. Masks are still required on public transportation, including school buses. CDC recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated because travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19."

Little Sister's Campsite

As private as private gets but only 6 miles to Newport Vt. There is a creek and a one acre pond (20 feet deep). It is all mixed hard and softwoods. It has some magnificent old growth trees 100 foot tall. There is a good rd that my friend has used with his Lincoln. Most any vehicle (car or Pickup)can get to the site. It gets a little tricky if you are pulling a trailer. A small one is OK but a large one - not so much....... The rd goes 1/2 mile to the rear of the land. Moose, deer and other critters visit too. We live 1/2 mile away from where you enter the woodlot. Our house is on Brownington Pond (200+ acres) & campers can use this site for swimming, boating & fishing.  Fires are allowed & we supply the wood at no extra charge.

You may use the raft in front of our house 1 mile away.

North of Eden Woods

Formerly a sheep farm in the early 20th century,
North of Eden Woods was purchased by the current owners
in 1999 as an undeveloped 150+ acre woodlot
to create a personal Thoreau-at-Walden living
experience. In the beginning, Ted lived in an converted school bus with his two dogs as he worked to build a log house from scratch. In the spring of 2000, a small cabin (Meadow-View
Off-Grid Vermont Cabin) was built and lived in for 2 years while the main off-grid log home was built. Trees were dropped, bark was peeled, mortar was mixed,
and logs were stacked up in the shape of a house that is now our home. In 2005, Liza joined the dream and we continue to improve our sustainable lifestyle, learn about our surroundings, and raise our 3 kids, three dogs and one goldfish. We manage the forest for wildlife, aesthetic purposes and renewable resources such as firewood, timber, aquaculture, and maple syrup production. Our property is the living document that is
the book of our life. ...We are constantly editing, adding to, and improving our story.

Your drive-in campsite is located adjacent to our off-grid cabin. The cabin and campsite will not both be occupied unless it's by the same group(please contact us to reserve both).

The camp sits in a large mowed field surrounded by wildflower meadows. A porch, picnic table, and lounge chairs allow you to relax and soak up the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

There are several small spring-fed streams to explore nearby.

A drive-in campsite, Old Logger Landing has a level tent site, private stone fire ring with cooking grill, picnic table, and composting toilet outbuilding.
