The property has been in the Monge family since the late 1940's bought by Jose Monge Marquez. The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees.
The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits.
The local attractions are:
-El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain.
-Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking).

Hiking jewels can be found at 20 minutes drive: Las Tetas between Cayey-Salinas, Canon San Cristobal between Aibonito-Barranquitas, and Bosque Carite, Cayey.

Use only Google Maps to drive to the property; you can get lost if you use other apps like Apple Maps. Remember this is a rural area with just a few traffic lights; we highly recommend arriving early the 1st time to get familiarized with the area.Wi-Fi: There is no Wi-Fi signal in Grandpa's house, but if you need to use it, you can access the Wi-Fi service close to the main house.You will be in the middle of 5 acres of land, in total contact with nature and in an emblematic property from the 50's. In simple words: there are no screens on the windows, and you sleep with a mosquito net. Insects are a vital part of the flora and fauna, and you can see a wide variety of them in the surroundings, from lizards to fireflies. In the same way, and despite the fact that we have an exterminator visit every 2 weeks, sometimes they can be inside the grandfather's house. A real, genuine, and magical experience.For those not familiar with the local driving conditions, it's advisable to approach the journey with a sense of adventure and patience. The roads, while providing an authentic experience of the country's topography, may require a bit of adaptability from drivers more accustomed to city driving.Compact vehicles are more than capable of reaching our hidden oasis. . The grandpa house is everyone's favorite, including Bad Bunny's. Featured in multiple short films, movies, and the last musical video from Bad Bunny, "Pitorro de Coco".
A hidden gem inside the mountains of the municipality of Cidra. Excellent space to disconnect you from the busy life of the city and get in contact with nature. You can walk, hike, make a bonfire, or just sit at the lakeshore to recharge your batteries. Enjoy the views and the sound of the coqui during the sunset. Enjoy the stars and the night sky away from the city.
Live the experience of the past and remember our grandparents. In the grandpa's house, you will live like them.
This is a triple experience to the past in only one place:
2. In an adjacent structure, the 1950 grocery store, you will have access to a traditional bathroom with a shower, a 2-burner gas stove, a small refrigerator, and a microwave. You will have the basic commodities but live like Grandpa.

You will have access to the entire property. The grandpa's house and grocery store (where the traditional bathroom with shower, refrigerator, and microwave are located).
This is a rural and country property, surrounded by nature and creeks, with direct access to Cidra Lake. Drive carefully, but all vehicles can get access without problems. Vehicles like a Toyota Camry, an SUV, or a 4x4.
Other things to note
Use only Google Maps to drive to the property; you can get lost if you use other apps like Apple Maps. Remember this is a rural area with just a few traffic lights; we highly recommend arriving early the 1st time to get familiarized with the area.Wi-Fi: There is no Wi-Fi signal in Grandpa's house, but if you need to use it, you can access the Wi-Fi service close to the main house.You will be in the middle of 5 acres of land, in total contact with nature and in an emblematic property from the 50's. In simple words: there are no screens on the windows, and you sleep with a mosquito net. Insects are a vital part of the flora and fauna, and you can see a wide variety of them in the surroundings, from lizards to fireflies. In the same way, and despite the fact that we have an exterminator visit every 2 weeks, sometimes they can be inside the grandfather's house. A real, genuine, and magical experience.For those not familiar with the local driving conditions, it's advisable to approach the journey with a sense of adventure and patience. The roads, while providing an authentic experience of the country's topography, may require a bit of adaptability from drivers more accustomed to city driving.Compact vehicles are more than capable of reaching our hidden oasis. The key is to drive safely, taking your time to navigate any twists, bumpy roads, and turns with care. Maria was a great host, the riverside campsite and outdoor bathroom was great! Be aware that the place lives up to its name, but that lends to its charm. The jungle trail to the waterfalls on their property was a perfect length hike with a nice reward at the end (~1 mile round trip). Would definitely go back.

Terruño Azul Verdoso is a true gem. I loved the unique experience of using the kitchen and bathroom with full views of the woods and river—it felt amazing to be so close to nature. The staff is incredibly cool and helpful, making the experience even better. It’s also a versatile space, perfect for everything from self-care and yoga to group events. We spent one night tent camping here to celebrate New Year’s, and it was such a special experience. It was the perfect place to enjoy the fireworks while welcoming the new year.
The campsite is private and offers beautiful views of the mountains of Puerto Rico. We were especially delighted by an amazing sunrise.

This place enchants the heart, by simply surrendering to the magic landscape visuals and sounds all around and within this site. You hear nothing but purity on this marvelous site, from the sounds of 5 species of coqui frogs and so many native birds from local endemics to native resident birds and migratory passerines and birds of pray. I grew up in PR and explored the island thoroughly for nearly 30 years and I had never been on a place where I heard seven to eight pairs of PR screech owls joyfully chanting all at once from all around. A relatively short hike within the property takes you into another realm down by the river where isolation is bliss. A night hike through the property trees brought me so much wonder from hundreds of fireflies and the night orchestra from owls, coquies and so many insect sounds. We loved the space! There are thoughtful touches, the tent platform is flat, and we loved waking up to the nice trees. The gates you need to walk through to get to the Hipcamp are grey and not green (we got confused at first because it was dark). The hosts are very responsive and super nice! We really enjoyed chatting with one of them in the morning on our way out. We would definitely recommend this place!

We had a nice time at Refugio Caney and loved that it was so close to climbing and that the tent and mattress were provided. A couple of things to note: if you're 6ft tall, you can only fully lay out in the tent if you do so diagonally. You can hear the freeway from the tent, but it didn't bother us. Also, the climbing day pass is paid for separately. Refugio Caney is cool and we loved climbing the ladder to get to the tent and seeing all the trees in the morning when we woke up. The owners are super nice and we enjoyed chatting with them!

Awesome campsite, relatively secluded, the creek and coqui and bug sounds can get loud at night but it was great. Very fun to explore flora and fauna in the area. Definitely check out the natural water slides that are about 15 min walk from the campsite. Be aware that it will definitely rain at least a few times during your stay. We tried to hang some towels to dry but that was pointless. Communication with the host and the check in were fast and easily available. Highly recommend!

This is by far the most beautiful campsite we've ever camped at, with one of the nicest people weve met in PR. The views are stunning with El Yunque and Vieques island in the background with 360° views from the mountain, an infinity style pool, indoor kitchen, fridge, bathroom with shower. This is our new favorite spot, the beauty, wildlife, and host were all fantastic. Thank you for such a peaceful weekend, we'll be back shortly.

Amplio espacio, cerca del río, pero a una altura segura. Rodeado de árboles y vegetación. Un pedazo de paraíso en la tierra. Cuenta con un área de servicios sanitarios, duchas con agua caliente. No hay electricidad, ni agua potable en el área de acampar, y mucho menos señal de Wifi. Es desconectarse del mundo y conectarse con la naturaleza.

My wife and I camp quite a bit, and this was probably our favorite spot. We may have gotten lucky with it being off season, but the campsite was very secluded. We camped out of our van and were able to back up right to the river and listen to the babbling water all night.
Only 8 minutes from town. The hikes in Yunque national forest are incredible.

This campsite is a must-visit on the island. There’s a trail inside the property that leads to a stunning waterfall where you can enjoy the view and even take a swim. The campsite also has chickens, a horse, and a pig, it's clear the host truly loves this place and has decorated it with so much care. She even brought us delicious coffee in the morning, which was incredibly sweet. I’d definitely come back the next time I visit Puerto Rico!

The Site is huge! It is beside the lake in which you can fish from the comfort of your tent if you wish. The facilities were clean and with enough space to play baseball no worries. Super kind service from the owner and manager. It became my favorite site for camping.
