🏡 About This Space
This is not a hotel or boutique hotel — it’s my personal home and guesthouse, created with care to offer budget-friendly, outdoor living accommodation in a real Puerto Rican neighborhood. There are three units on the property:
• The Casita, located in the back and completely private sleeps 3
• The Loft and Escape Pod, which share an outdoor kitchen and patio Escape pod sleeps 2 The loft has a queen and full size pullout
I live on-site for about six months of the year and work in the States the other half to keep this Puerto Rico dream alive. I’ve built this space slowly, with creativity and love — and I’m happy to share it with those who appreciate its energy.
🌿 A Few Quick Notes
We provide a clean, comfortable, and affordable stay — but don’t offer upscale hotel amenities like single-use plastic shampoos or conditioners. Instead, we provide an all-natural Castile soap in hand pumps that can be used for the whole body.
Also, roosters are part of daily life in Puerto Rican neighborhoods. You may hear them at unexpected hours — it’s part of the local soundscape. There are no roosters next door, but a neighbor up the hill has a few.

You will have access to the entire property. The grandpa's house and grocery store (where the traditional bathroom with shower, refrigerator, and microwave are located).
This is a rural and country property, surrounded by nature and creeks, with direct access to Cidra Lake. Drive carefully, but all vehicles can get access without problems. Vehicles like a Toyota Camry, an SUV, or a 4x4.
Other things to note
Use only Google Maps to drive to the property; you can get lost if you use other apps like Apple Maps. Remember this is a rural area with just a few traffic lights; we highly recommend arriving early the 1st time to get familiarized with the area.Wi-Fi: There is no Wi-Fi signal in Grandpa's house, but if you need to use it, you can access the Wi-Fi service close to the main house.You will be in the middle of 5 acres of land, in total contact with nature and in an emblematic property from the 50's. In simple words: there are no screens on the windows, and you sleep with a mosquito net. Insects are a vital part of the flora and fauna, and you can see a wide variety of them in the surroundings, from lizards to fireflies. In the same way, and despite the fact that we have an exterminator visit every 2 weeks, sometimes they can be inside the grandfather's house. A real, genuine, and magical experience.For those not familiar with the local driving conditions, it's advisable to approach the journey with a sense of adventure and patience. The roads, while providing an authentic experience of the country's topography, may require a bit of adaptability from drivers more accustomed to city driving.Compact vehicles are more than capable of reaching our hidden oasis. The key is to drive safely, taking your time to navigate any twists, bumpy roads, and turns with care. My Little Shack is a wooden structure property with kitchen and living room open spaces, it has 1 private room with 1 full bunk bed and another full size bed, one bathroom. No a/c, tv, microwave, hot water. Capacity for 4 adults.
By kayak you may visit, preferably at new moon night, one of the 20ths world's unique Bioluminiscent Bay. PR has 3 and one of those is just minutes away to experience!
You'll get to the shack house by a dirty and bumpy road, 32 steps up stairs, must be in shape!
Also you can anchor your boat almost in front of the property (there is no dock for boats there, but you may dock your dingy while visiting Parguera Village, advanced notification has to be made for arrangement.)
Birds, lizzards, manatees, starfishes, stingrays, dolphins, brilliant stars night and breathtaking blue skies, don't say about our sunsets and sunrises! Amazing cays are another natural atractions, ask for Mata La Gata sea pool area. Water in front of the house isn't suitable for swimming if you are not related to waters surrounded by mangroves but you may visit Parguera sea sighting by your boat, by in site boat rental at Parguera, parasailing, diving and many other tours... By car there are plenty of different kind of beaches at nearby towns. There are safe trails to explore.

3 nights at My Little Shack by the Sea
This beach shack was sooo magical. It had everything we needed to settle in and cook comfortably for a few days. The kitchen setup includes a propane stove, pots/pans, cutlery, a coffee press, and a refrigerator. The fridge was thoughtfully stocked with coffee, sugar, a pitcher of water, and ice.
The restroom was clean and comfortable to use, and the sleeping setup was great, a bunk bed plus a separate full bed.
There are also two two-person kayaks available to rent. They’re great quality, just keep in mind they’re a bit heavy, two people carrying them works best so you don’t have to drag them.
There’s a bug zapper that helped a lot. If you’re especially sensitive to bugs, you might want to bring bug spray, citronella coils, or a mosquito net. The beds didn’t have nets, but personally I didn’t feel like we needed them.
Even though I stayed here with my partner, I’d feel comfortable staying here as a solo female traveler. The only thing I’d recommend is arriving while it’s still light out, the roads are a little dark at night.
My only regret is not bringing a set of dominos to play on the domino table!

Group trip
This was our second time in six months and still rate this a five! The location is simply "marvelous" and this time around we changed our strategy: we were not going to get a better view to watch the sunset and so, instead of going out to dinner every night, where service is less than ideal, prices above average and the views not as spectacular, we brought everything we needed to cook for ourselves for three nights. It was spectacular! We mitigated the lack of warm water by bringing solar camping bags that warm up the water along with lots of citronella candles.
We are sure we will be returning at least twice per year. What a gem this place is! BTW, we even did some fishing!

2 nights at My Little Shack by the Sea
This property was everything we expected it to be and more! Here is who, in my humble opinion, would likely love this place: anyone looking for a tropical breeze, quiet evenings and spectacular sunsets! Our only regret is not bringing food supplies so that we could fix our own dinners instead of having to go out each evening. The loud noises “La Parguera” generates, something we are all too familiar with in Puerto Rico, is conveniently blocked by “Punta Papayo”. You will, however, not be immune to the noise or “voseteo” generated by boaters passing by during the day or the flotilla of boats parked at “Cayo Caracoles” a mile away in the water. However, they will go home as soon as the sun sets and you will be treated to the small waves crashing upon the shore the entire night. It will be so quite at night that you will in fact hear fish splashing on the water. Some of the reviews I read beforehand complained about bugs, somehow forgetting they are on a tropical island. If unsure about the bugs, first re-read the description of the place then play it safe and get a mosquito net on Amazon ($9).
We in fact CANNOT WAIT TO RETURN and next time we will be staying longer!

What an awe-inspiring, beautiful and grounding experience in Utuado. Our stay at TJ Ranch was more than we hoped for and exceeded our expectations. Tina's warmth, hospitality and farm-to-table meals left us feeling taken care of in a way that moved us to extend our stay an additional night. The cabins were clean and well-kept. The land was a unique perspective of the mountains and the stargazing was phenomenal.
Our kids enjoyed the pool and especially the animals. Tina and her family took the time to show them their daily farm routine and maintenance.
Be prepared for a windy, uphill drive to get there, but it's totally worth it!
We would recommend this gem to anyone looking for a unique, off-the-beaten path place to unwind in Puerto Rico! We certainly look forward to returning in the future!

This is a beautiful location and perfect camp spot to explore the island, close to Esperanza and Isabella. Have transportation lined up, either a local with good knowledge of the roads, or renting. Taxis are hit or miss. The casita has everything you need, as long as you’re prepared and don’t expect an Airbnb. Bring a headlamp as you’ll probably be walking a bit, don’t mind the rooster, he’s a good neighbor. Enjoy the island life!

This place is amazing. Honestly, it's one of the best places we've ever stayed. It is right over the ocean, has everything you need to cook, and is just so incredibly relaxing. Sitting in the breeze and looking out over the water is heaven. We also rented the house kayak and went over to a nearby cay and snorkeled. It's also possible to kayak around the corner to the La Parguera bio bay. So cool! We would stay here again without hesitation and recommend it wholeheartedly.

I really enjoyed the simplicity but also challenges of staying off grid. Bathing in rainwater and watching the birds catch wind currents on the hill. All of the neighbors were super friendly, and the local shop, Mambo, was a great place to stop for a drink and catch a ride to Isabel or Esperanza.

Suzanna’s property is in lovely hill country in the middle of the island. The view is spectacular and the nightly orchestra from insects and frogs is amazing.
That said, this place is very basic. Campers should be prepared for rustic accommodations. There is only solar lights which only last a few hours. The water is a rain water catchment system. Get good directions. Suzanna is super helpful.
