The elevation is 7200 feet in a gorgeous setting surrounded by mountains. We have a pavilion and a huge outdoor kitchen for you to enjoy.

What is The Ojo?

Simply, 116 acres of riparian and desert landscape situated along the Ojo Caliente River in the heart of northern New Mexico! 

WE HOST GROUPS !

What kind of groups come here?

We attract a variety of folks, including families, who want a land based experience. Your group always has the place to itself.

We are all about Place and the roll it plays in helping humans become grounded. People who have visited here have come for vision quests, sweat lodges, Walkabouts, yoga, personal work of various kinds and simple reflection, and more. The Ojo is set amidst an amazing northern New Mexico landscape of water and sculptured desert, mountains and mesas. We seek groups who are not looking for a retreat center, but rather, are looking for a unique place where they can reconnect with the environment. On The Ojo, our goal is to facilitate your stay so that the group can focus on their own special needs.   

We can accommodate up to twenty adults. Kids under thirteen count as 1/2 an adult for calculating your group size. For example: ten adults and six kids would be a total of thirteen adults. 

The land is wildlife friendly, but there has never been a negative encounter with any wild animal. We are home to a diverse number of bird and animal species. 

PLEASE...No pets!

And, there is a wild river running through it! 

We are geared for tent camping and do not provide hook ups for RVs. The camping area extends along the river and can accommodate up to 20 tents. Included in the nightly group rate of $300 is The Ojo Cabin, a cozy retreat cabin that sleeps two adults in a queen bed, and has electricity, running water and its own RV style toilet and a full shower. 

Our 26 foot Hogan, built with love, is there for your group to use as needed. This amazing place has an adobe floor and walls and a spectacular ceiling.

Cooking is done in our dining/cooking pavilion, a short walk from the campground and the cabin. There is free high speed  wi-fi available in the pavilion. Two showers, one seasonal outdoors, have unlimited hot water, and the full kitchen and two refrigerators make cooking easy.  Two foot bridges make access to the pavilion from the camping area easy, and low key lighting makes travel safe after dark. We do not allow cooking elsewhere on the land. 

The pavilion is the place to gather, hang out, cook on the gas grill, throw some horseshoes, or just relax.

The Ojo encompasses classic New Mexico cottonwood/willow Bosque and our land extends to the top of nearby Black Mesa, 1000 feet above the valley floor. The spectacular Shadow Mountain Trail is about 1.5 miles long and the hike rewards you with amazing views of the surrounding countryside.

The Ojo abuts incredible desert badlands in the adjacent BLM land to the west. Various trails make moving through the Bosque and desert easy. Often there are beavers in our little river too!

We have a ceremonial tipi, permission needed for use, and a wonderful classic seven ring labyrinth. We are located only 45 minutes from Santa Fe, an hour to Taos, 30 minutes to Abiquiu, and in the heart of a landscape that has everything for the active, from mountain biking to white water rafting. 

Oh yeah...we are also only ten minutes from Ojo Caliente Hot Spring and Spa.

La Luz Vintage Campers

Three years ago, two lonely campers sat abandoned in the sagebrush of Northern New Mexico. While they enjoyed spectacular mountain and mesa views, they longed to be inhabited by travelers once again. Thankfully for these vintage beauties - and for me - I stumbled upon them during my own summer wanderings, and the rest is history. Now my full time residence, La Luz has blossomed into a home base for travelers who want to take in the area's outdoor and cultural offerings while enjoying a taste of vintage comfort with modern perks.Learn more about this land:A space perfect for the solo traveler or a really cozy couple. Set just 10 minutes from town, this amazingly well-designed 1964 Barth travel trailer features the comforts and amenities of home in a small, stylish package. The many windows offer views of mountains and big sky, and the large fenced yard, comfy outdoor chairs, and vintage outdoor fireplace offers even more living space! 

Taos night skies make campers (of the human and trailer variety) feel like a very small piece of a very big place.

The camper shares a yard with two other vintage travel trailers - I live full time in my Spartan trailer on the property and the other trailer is also a guest rental.

This little camp toilet was recently replaced with a real RV toilet that is hooked up to septic - ahhhh, the comforts of home!

During times when it is safe and legal, feel free to enjoy a cozy fire in the midcentury fireplace. Firewood available on site!

Little Valley Camp

*Prefer to text because of limited cell service*Semi-remote lush valley surrounded by national forest 8000 ft in the ponderosas.We came here in 1989 with intentions to live off the grid and among nature. Raised our kids here in a school bus and cabin. I put up the teepee in the summers and move the kitchen outside. We hold the land with high respect, plant trees, and enjoy the peace of the forest. Some people have stayed here for a night, others for many months. *Hosting through Hip Camp for the first time in the summer of 2021.* Looking forward to welcoming new visitors and working together to create a great experience for everyone. 

Abiquiu Tiny House

 Situated at 6300 ft. above sea level the Chama River Valley is surrounded by forested mountains. There is white water rafting on the Rio Chama and Rio Grande Rivers nearby during spring and summer. Within an hour there are ski areas at Taos and Santa Fe during the winter. Ojo Caliente Hot Springs is 17 miles away and has a full spa and restaurant. There are beautiful hiking trails throughout the area and Abiquiu Lake is less than 20 minutes away.
The location of the Tiny House is in a quiet, private and beautiful setting.
Abiquiu Lake is only 15 minutes away for fun swimming, Ghost Ranch is 20 minutes away and has 3 beautiful hikes. Santa Fe and Taos are 60 minutes away. The tiny house is a healthy house built on the golden mean and has no electrical radiation inside except wi-fi. All material used are nontoxic.Notable aspect. There are no pets allowed on the property. 

The nature hikes in the area are close by and definitely worth a visit

Mornings just don't get any better than this.
