Over the last 150 years a number of gold and silver mines have operated in the gulches at the side of the canyon. A pictorial history is available at the community park and in the social hall. What a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the tranquility of a beautiful pastoral scene. On top of that the hosts, Vicki & Roger, were absolutely amazing. Very accommodating and there to help any way they could. Talking to them felt like talking to old friends. We were amazed at the history of their ranch as well as the history of Castle Town. If we head that way again, we will for sure stay at their wonderful place and be sure to visit with our old new friends.

Appreciated the power hookup. Was close to the road to the lake and there was a fair amount of traffic heading that way. Down by the lake was a dump station ($5). Also only 15 minutes to Helena. There is no water and the RV spot is not level but workable. besides a tiny rental home you get it to yourself. Oh but there is a trail cam on the tree by the RV spot so no peeing on his trees. Nicely arranged sites that are easy to back in to. We sought out this site for a return trip to the area because we loved it so much a year ago.

The site was a simple water and electric site, just as pictured. The site is really close to the dam and state park, and it has a nice partial view into the valley. It is also quiet and private, though there is a tiny cabin on the property that may be occupied during your stay.

This is our second time this summer on Christian's land, so obviously it's a big thumbs up! Christian is a super great and amiable host who enjoys sharing this little paradise; Campsite was on lush green grass adjacent to a perennial spring-fed creek. Lots of birds and wild flowers! This is a beautiful location, but please be sure you are 100% self-contained as there is no power, or waste disposal. Overall, one of the nicest places We've hipcamped in Montana!

2 nights at Relax Inn Montana

My wife and I enjoyed staying with Pamela. She has a backyard oasis that she is clearly built for her own enjoyment and for entertaining her friends that she has now opened up to HipCamp. There are no less than NINE different seating areas, including picnic tables, two gas fire pits, AND a bonfire areas; there are activities, like horseshoes and lariat roping practice and a little shed with other toys, chairs and items you might need. There is even a meditation hut! I feel like it is still missing some of camping essentials - especially a sink with a water source. Right now, the only option is a hose with a spray nozzle over a freestanding basin that drips on your feet as the water flows through it. The hose is very hard to manage - you need someone to hold the hose so you can wash your face or brush your teeth. Pamela does have some pretty claw feet tubs which you could potentially wash off/shower in but although they look like they are on a secluded hilltop in the photos, you are actually in full view of the back of the neighbor's house, as well as Pamela's tiny house. That said, we really enjoyed our time with Pamela - she did her best to accommodate our needs, letting us borrow a cooler and setting out solar showers so that we could shower (in full view of the neighborhood but when you're dirty, you can't be choosy LOL). This is Pamela's first year on HipCamp and I think her property has great potential I recommend you stay with her if you're in the area.

Really enjoyed spending a couple of quiet nights on Christian's land! Christian is a super great and amiable host who was very helpful, and easy to communicate with. My campsite was on lush green grass adjacent to a perennial spring-fed creek. Lots of birds and wild flowers! This is a beautiful location, but please be sure you are 100% self-contained as there is no power, water, or waste disposal. Overall, one of the nicest places I've hipcamped in Montana!

Erik’s site was definitely rugged but it worked for what we needed! It was close to a dump site at the very beautiful Black Feet State Park (you could dump for $5). Water and electricity were perfect. The site was unleveled and not mowed but as long as that’s not something that bothers you, it’s perfect for what we needed! There is also a restaurant within walking distance.
