Located at the confluence of the Meramec River and Labarque Creek, my place (Matt's Place) is a ridge above a bottomland bowl of sorts.
The old iron truss bridge here is likely built in 1910 and it has a survey marker from 1932.
The creek has a nice little swimming hole, and a beach that is sometimes sand, sometimes, gravel, and sometimes a mix of both with some silt or even mud after a storm. It's peaceful down there to explore in the creek, wade while looking outward to an opening into the Meramec River. It's also fun to stand just at the mouth of the creek in the Meramec River. It's an awesome view upstream or downstream of tree lined banks, rock bluffs, and every now and then, passing boats, canoes, paddle boards, or kayaks. The old iron truss bridge hovers above the meeting of two waters. The water is cool and clean. Some fifty species of fish have been recorded in this creek, the most in all of Jefferson County and St Louis County. The bottomland has two levels, the lower bottoms down by the creek and the upper bottoms about a hundred feet from the creek. The upper bottoms has a clearing like a meadow with mowed grass.
My favorite things to do here include gazing up at a cottonwood tree that must be sixty feet tall. It's leaves in a breeze are like a thousand hands waving hello. The bottomland meadow offers just enough sky to see bats dance in the dusk air between the trees, then fireflies as it gets darker yet. Up top is where I live.
Just five miles off HWY 44 and HWY 109, at Eureka, MO, (30 minutes west of downtown St Louis, 18 minutes from Six Flags) this place sits on a ridge with great views above the Meramec River.

Weekend Trip to Matt's Place at Meramec n Labarque
Matt is a wonderful host. We stayed in his cabin and had a great evening in front of the fire listening to the sounds of the river. Matt can provide extras to enhance your stay - we had coffee and toast and jam in the morning. Everything was perfect- Matt is very responsive, thoughtful and kind. I loved the new outhouse!

We just came back from our second trip to Hummingbird Hollow Outdoors, and once again it felt absolutely magical. ✨
As a single mama of four, camping can sometimes feel overwhelming, but renting the yurt made it so much easier — and honestly, it turned into something even more special. The land itself is breathtaking, and the experience of being surrounded by animals roaming freely, sweet and friendly, made it unforgettable for my kids. They were in heaven, completely obsessed with every animal they met.
Making magical core memories with my children is my number one goal as a mama, and this place does that and so much more. It wasn’t just a getaway — it was a memory-making trip that gave us those moments I know my children will carry in their hearts forever.
The beauty of the land, the warmth of the animals, and the sense of peace all around truly make it a one-of-a-kind spot. This is more than a five-star rating, but five stars is the max. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We’ll definitely be coming back as often as humanly possible!

Hummingbird Hollow was exactly what we needed this past weekend. The yurt, Lady Asha, was beyond expectations and had everything we needed. The animals (especially the horses and donkeys), the creek, the foliage, was all the nature healing we could ask for. We can't wait to go back!

Keith and Benka have “piece of Eden” ! I went on a solo trip looking for some personal me self care time. I asked Keith for some options on hiking and waterfalls. He recommended the best options for me and my personal preferences. The Tipi was over the top beautiful and nestled just right within the woods. Private. Beds are very comfortable and have heaters in them for winter. The accessories for your stay are endless! ! They have remembered everything a traveler may forget. Cute grill that is private and sun room with a fridge to use. Bath house with very modern and clean !!
Owls hooting at night reminding Mother Nature works even when sun is down. Morning meditation on my own personal deck! Perfection to start the day with. Benka’s cinnamon coffee was extra special and yummy to the daybreak of peace and quiet of the new day. Keith & Benka are world travelers that have lived and captured their experiences thru out the property with books and photography . They also support Tibetan children that are in exile with a donations collected. This is an exceptional couple with kindness to share for their travelers and people of all cultures! I will most certainly stay again and again! Deep gratitude for my new friends!

We had an great time in the Sir Quincy Yurt. It was well appointed with an update of an extension cord which was much appreciated with the fan for this super hot weather. The yurt was clean and had everything we needed. Two moms and two daughters stayed comfortably. The animals were all very docile and fun to be around. We were close enough to town to take advantage of a great ice cream stand and some interesting antique shops too.

Hummingbird Hollow was amazing! It was HOT when we stayed but the creek is a short walk from the campsites and is big enough that you’re not on top of other people camping too.
We stayed in St Quincy. Sarah had a nice sized fan setup in that kept air flowing and really helped with the heat. There were two beds and both were comfortable.
We really loved seeing, petting, and taking pictures with all of the animals. The vast majority were extremely friendly and the other few were shy but still “checked us out.”
We will definitely be booking another stay here this summer!

Our family, including two kids ages 3 and 1, had a memorable first camping trip together at this rustic, charming yurt. The friendly barnyard animals were a huge hit (tip: bring carrots). Susan was a wonderful host, even bringing over an adorable baby goat for us to meet. The yurt itself was cozy and well-equipped, and we found the nighttime animal sounds intriguing (earplugs thoughtfully provided). Clear directions made arrival easy.
Be prepared: the Asha yurt site is on a slant and was muddy for us after heavy rain, which was a bit challenging. The path to the private creek is also narrow, muddy, involves a small stream crossing, and has a steep hill at the end – definitely leave wagons/strollers behind. It's well worth the journey, though, with beautiful clear water and not fast or deep enough to be too dangerous for young ones. Despite the mud, Hummingbird Hollow was a fantastic experience, and our three-year-old now expects farm animals with every camping trip! 😅
