Sunshine Motel Rustic Camping

Has nature been calling your name?  Test your love of nature at Sunshine Motel and Cabin’s rustic campground.  Nestled in the back of the cabins and up a small hill lay three rustic campsites.    These campsites are available for rent; perfect for the Eco Tourist, and not for the faint of heart.  When we say rustic, it is rustic.  No utilities or facilities (toilet not) provided.   Toilet paper if needed. Parking is in a different spot; all sites are walk up. Please be aware that vehicle camping is not allowed on property.   

Currently there is a communal fire pit, as well as fire pits on each site. Private picnic tables and communal tables surround the grounds. Additionally, each site is provided with a trash can and BBQ grill. 

Along with our large campsites there is a yard for the kids to play and access to our private beach. Many other trails, lakes and rivers are in the area along with several shopping opportunities. Come enjoy all that we at the  Sunshine can offer you.

Our almost 4 acre slice of paradise.   Last stop on the Ontonagon River before Lake Superior.   Public access to Lake Superior is a short walk from our yard.  When there are no burn bans, you can have a fire in our fire pit.  We do have some larger wood available onsite at no charge if you wish to use it.

Note:  There is an active factory next door that has gotten busier and can make a lot of noise.  Daytime noise probably isn't too problematic but it can go on at night too.  Last year we opted to not offer camp sites for this reason.  This year we decided to open up but to make sure guests know the potential.  It is a weld shop so the noise is usually grinding or pounding of a hammer.  In warmer weather, they open the door and it can be noisy for sure...but many have said it is still quieter than where their home is.  Please be sure you are okay with this before booking.

They currently work 5am-3am M-Thu and then a small crew 5am-5pm Fri-Sun.   Friday-Saturday and Sunday are least likely to make noise but it is still possible.

Firefly Camp and Sauna

This land was owned by my Grandfather, Carl Mansfeldt. He farmed for many years and even had cows. We have started to develop it and put a garage and a "gazauna" on this part of land. (Gazauna is a made up name for gazebo and sauna) My parent's John and Karen Mansfeldt will be your hosts. Enjoy your walks in the woods!Learn more about this land:This is a remote, peaceful, private, forested site in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The site is overlooking a pond/ravine. One outbuilding includes a SAUNA. It is 1 mile away from the #15 ATV/snowmobile trail, 6 miles from Keweenaw Bay (Lake Superior),  3 miles from Ojibiwa casino, 23 miles from Sturgeon falls (Ottawa National forest), to just name a few things to do. We have wild raspberry and black berry bushes all throughout the woods. There are trails in the woods for hiking as well. 

It’s hard to get everyone to leave such a wonderful place

This is a 

private campground on Sandy Lake.

Very quiet, private dock, sandy beach, great for fishing, kayaking or just relaxing.

New this year is a sauna with shower, this is an electric sauna , use will be by donation. Sauna is not part of base fee, additional cost for sauna
