The rustic cabin sits on a beautiful ridge. You will have a great view of the sky. Birds and wildlife watching along with listening to them. The property is a second farm that has been in my family's history since the 1960's. We are a working crop, horses and beef cattle farm. We raise crops on this property. We have a main farm down the road that if you would like to visit, we can try setting that up so you can see the animals if you would like. Please note that the cabin has a porta potty outside. The cabin does not have electricity, but an extension cord can be brought and plugged into the outdoor electric outlet. The cord can be run into the cabin to use the fan, lamp and electric skillet or infrared heater in the colder months. There is a water hydrant outside for bathing or boiling. The water is non potable. We have direct access to the property for ATV/UTV's for the public road use on the back roads. You can travel from town to town and sight see. The property is between two towns and is close to places to see and things to do, driftless area history, wineries, caves, hiking, canoeing, fishing, sightseeing, river, streams and more.

Such a lovely space in a gorgeous place with great hosts! Betty and Ed were super welcoming, friendly, and accommodating to our needs as guests. Their land is stunning and it was so nice to step right outside the cabin to go on nature walks. The nearby towns are fun to explore too. The photos of their cabin don’t do it justice, it’s very cute and thoughtfully designed! Would happily stay here again.

My partner and I loved our stay at the Heart of the Driftless. The directions were clear and simple. We enjoyed the scenery and lots of amazing wildlife. This was a trip for my spouse and I to celebrate our anniversary, and it was the absolute best experience to have one-on-one time away from kiddos and to be in nature. Betty was a wonderful communicator, very thorough in her instructions and directions, and gave us the lay of the land upon arrival. We were kicking ourselves that we didn’t reserve more than two nights. From hiking to fishing to cooking outside, firepit, cards and movies inside, it was a lovely experience. The cabin itself was perfect. Brand new and very functional. We truly had everything we needed and more. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

The cabin was clean, beautifully situated, and had everything we needed to unplug and reconnect with each other and with nature. The property itself is quiet, private, and full of charm. We appreciated all of the details—solar lights, thoughtful furnishings, and the clear instructions that made everything easy to navigate despite being off-grid. It truly struck the perfect balance between rustic and comfortable. We also want to express our heartfelt thanks for the kindness and hospitality we received. My partner had some car troubles during our stay, and when we went down to Karen’s property, they graciously let us borrow tools to help us out. That act of generosity meant so much and really speaks to the spirit of this place. This spot was exactly what we were hoping for: a chance to step away from the noise of everyday life and just be. We’re already dreaming about coming back. Highly, highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, grounded getaway.

Weekend Trip to RidgeRiverView Acres

We loved Jims Cozy Cabin. Jim was super laid back. This was a perfect place for me, my husband and our two pups. We stayed only two nights but could have stayed longer. Our pups loved exploring the farm and I loved floating in the pond with our neighbor. Whom stayed in the beautiful canvas tent on the other side of the pond. It was very secluded with all the amenities you'll need. He offered to help with our fire and he blew up floats for us. He even offered us fresh veggies from his garden. The cabin was very clean and cute. A/C worked great and was much needed. Cabin was only an hour away from Galena IL and 30 min from Dubuque IW both towns have great shopping, bars and restaurants. But if you're just looking to get away from the city and see the stars this place is where you need to be. We loved sitting on the dock at night looking at the stars. You can tell Jim spent a lot of hard work on his property to make it beautiful with all the flowers and hanging lights everywhere even around the lake. When we left we couldn't thank Jim enough. We will be back.

2 nights at Peaceful Cabin

We enjoyed our stay at Peaceful Cabin. The area was beautiful and it was easy to find. The road up to the cabin was doable with AWD. Sarah and her husband were very responsive and helpful during our stay. The cabin is very nice, cozy, and quiet. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a window AC unit as it in the 90s when we arrived and my dog was able to cool off.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this serene and beautiful campsite. The cabin was exactly as advertised—clean, cozy, and thoughtfully set up for comfort. My wife, daughter, and I spent our days bird watching and soaking in the quiet beauty of nature, and our nights stargazing under a breathtaking sky. It was the perfect escape from the noise of everyday life. Karen, the host, was fantastic—warm, welcoming, and responsive. You can tell she really cares about creating a great experience for her guests. We left feeling refreshed, peaceful, and already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a tranquil retreat in nature!

5 nights at Windy Ridge Retreat

this cabin was great! it's tucked into a hillside and very private, Sherri messaged with us right away and we met with her husband Jason shortly after we arrived. they are very nice and good hosts. there was plenty of firewood provided for the large fire ring, and the property was very well maintained and ready for us to enjoy. the cabin was very comfy and warm at night while staying cool during the day. two windows provided a nice cross breeze and while it did get down to 30° one morning during our stay we did not need to use the woodstove or electric heater at all. we did bring a 50' powercord to be able to use my partner's cpap and that worked very well. its glamping, but not so much it doesnt feel like camping still, if that makes sense? the sky is large with plenty of stars to see, the birdsong was wonderful with alot of different birds including one very physic woodpecker that entertained us with his antics. the cabin is close enuff to town to run in quick if you need anything or would like to have a bite to eat at the diner cafe there, but the setting is all countryside. there are several public lands nearby to explore hiking or boating and we also enjoyed taking drives along the atv utv routes some blactop some gravel roads that led thru some incredibly scenic forested hollows, valleys, and ridgetops in the area. if you want to cabin camp in privacy windy ridge is a good choice!

This was an incredible experience! The cabin and outhouse were clean, peaceful and well stocked with everything we needed and a few nice items (tea, shampoo, a deck of cards). The composting toilet was so easy to use and the hot shower was amazing!! We left feeling refreshed and restored. Thanks to the host for sharing this lovely well cared for property!!

Weekend Trip to Driftless Retreat 🍃 🎶 📚

My partner and I absolutely fell in love with this charming little cabin, and the ravine adjacent to the property provided a lush natural view as well as a fun place to explore. We love hunting for cool rocks and fungi, and the ravine delivered. The cabin itself was clean, cozy, stylish, and provided enough amenities to make our stay comfortable and entertaining: the space heaters provided plenty of warmth (to our relief, as our visit fell in late November), the bed was comfortable, and the selection of books was well-curated with titles ranging from classic literature to Lonely Planet travel guides. The refrigerator and hot plate made it easy to keep our weekend getaway budget-friendly without sacrificing all of the modern conveniences, too. The wifi also worked great, and the projector screen was an unexpectedly delightful bonus (as was the little aurora-style light projector for relaxing bedtime ambience). Although there are neighbors across the road, the property itself offers sufficient privacy and immersion in nature, which are always high priorities to me regarding weekend getaway destinations ... I live in the city where you can almost touch the house next door through the window. To top it all off, Marla is a terrific host: her response time to any questions we had was always faster than I expected, and her friendly demeanor made us feel more like welcomed guests than anonymous renters. We will definitely be returning to Driftless Retreat. Thanks, Marla!
