We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, but you do need to rent an SUV or truck with high clearance. No sedans. Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places.. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,. This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also. The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

Ocean View is the only community between Captain Cook and Volcano with restaurants, grocery stores, and other amenities. There are dogs, cats, and peacocks living on the farm. There is no electricity in the cabanas but there are power strips available in the common area.  The common area consists of a large deck with picnic tables, Wifi access (pw: pickalltheweeds), power strips for charging electronics, canopies for when it rains, a 2-burner hotplate for cooking, pots, pans, plates, utensils, cups, dry food storage and a full sized fridge with freezer. Please keep the area clean. We also offer morning Breakfast Basket options: Small basket $ - 2 Papayas, 6 bananas, 2 cups of coffee.  Large basket $ - 4 papayas, 10 bananas, morning coffee during your stay.  Please keep in mind the fruit may vary depending on what is ripe.  Coffee In order to preserve water we utilize clean non-smelling composting toilets. We also have 4 hot water showers, 2 sinks and vanity areas. Please keep showers to 5 min or less, Mahalo.  If you come with a 4-wheel drive vehicle you are welcome to drive farther up on to the property and park closer to your cabana, just follow the Parking signs. Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places.. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,. This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also. The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

This was our second early-December stay here. The property is in an excellent location above Naalehu, is easy to find, and has spectacular views of the surrounding hillside and ocean. Brian, the onsite manager, was responsive and friendly, and made us feel welcome. The cabins are cute and clean, and the crickets and coqui frogs serenaded us to sleep. The outdoor shower is private and clean, and has plenty of hot water. This is a simple little gem of a place, and we would definitely stay here again.

The Property is Amazing... Such a huge area with Beautiful Sunrise and you can see the Plume of the volcano. It is about a 40 minute drive to volcano national park.. The cabanas were clean and cute.. a definite hippy vibe... Shower is hot and bed was comfortable at butterfly pea... I wish I knew that they were not offering dinners there... I had a fantastic two-night stay in the “SHE” shed, which featured a cool mood lighting! The area was incredibly peaceful for sleeping, and the cabin had an amazing cross breeze that ensured a comfortable night's rest. While there is air conditioning, it wasn't necessary. The views were spectacular, with beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and great opportunities for stargazing. Eddie was very accommodating; he even built a fire for me so I could make s'mores! His dogs, Coco and Ocho, were incredibly sweet—Coco kept watch outside my door all night. The shower offered hot water, and having a flushing toilet was definitely a plus. Eddie is knowledgeable about the area and can guide you in the right direction, no matter what journey you're on! I would definitely stay again. Thanks!

This is review of the eco lodge. We got upgraded by the host as they were doing some prep to summer work on their property. The eco lodge is exceptionally well fitted. The hosts didn’t leave us wanting for anything. The kitchen could not have been any better appointed. We enjoyed morning qigong by the stream, our evening tea by the stream, afternoon nap on the hammock by the stream and sat by the stream in the evening with fire going…. The prayer flags gladdened my soul. The solar light strings made the property feel warm at night. Does it count as foraging if you are picking fir tips on the property?

The pictures really don't do justice to the views you get here. Easily the best views of anywhere I stayed during my trip, unfortunate I was only there for one night. Jasmine came to greet me, showed me around the site and dropped off some bananas from the farm. Cabin is comfortable and very relaxing, and the outdoor shower is both warm and has great water pressure. The stargazing is incredible when the weather cooperates. Excellent food and coffee options just down the hill. Yeah, just an overall excellent location. Highly recommend.

Enjoy the country life in Kau on the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, but you do need to rent an SUV or truck with high clearance. No sedans. Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places.. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,. This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also. The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

Sleep under the stars on the slopes of the world’s largest active volcano, Mauna Loa. Located at 3700’ on a 250 year old lava flow, enjoy camping in a native forested lot that is accessible by 2WD vehicle. This is a great base location to enjoy activities on the south side of Big Island, including Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, Papakolea (Green Sand Beach), Punalu’u (Black Sand Beach), and Ka Lae (South Point). Break up your island wide cruise and spend more time in scenic Ka’ū, one of the last bastions of old Hawai’i. Mutiny Farms is 100% off-grid. There is currently no power available at either site. You will need to bring flashlights and rechargeable battery packs if you require any portable power. The property is about a 15 minute drive to Ocean View town center, and about an hour to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Ocean View is the only community between Captain Cook and Volcano with restaurants, grocery stores, and other amenities. There are dogs, cats, and peacocks living on the farm. There are a variety of native and food plants growing on the property. At this elevation, the climate can be quite chilly, so please come prepared for the weather. We are happy to provide guided adventures in your personal or rental vehicle, or provide information to enhance your adventure.
