The Shoshone and Nez Perce Native American tribes spent their summers in this area hunting and fishing the many streams in this valley. Trapper's used the area until the U.S. market collapse of the beaver skin top-hat in the late 1830's. Mormon pioneers began settling here in the 1890's. My great-grandparents settled in Teton Valley after moving from Nebraska in 1917. They farmed this land; growing potatoes, barley and hay. Today we raise alfalfa/grass hay that we feed to our horses. In the bottom of our field south of the campsite is Trail Creek, which is the headwaters of the Teton River. It flows out of the southern Teton mountain range in Wyoming and into Idaho. This water eventually joins the mighty Snake River near Rexburg, Idaho as it continues it's journey to the pacific ocean. Summer's here are usually warm sunny days with cool, chilly nights.
