Elk Mountain Trailhead leads to the mountain and is suitable for backpacking, equestrian, or OHV trail riding use. Leave your vehicle near Windy Saddle on Forest Road 285 and head to the end of the road. From there it’s about two miles north on Trail 517. There is a toilet once you reach the mountain. Race ya there!

Many of the gravel roads are suitable for your standard 2 wheeler drive car. If you are more adventurous 4 wheel drive will get you a little deeper into the woods. For maximum exploration bring your UTV/ATV and you can go almost anywhere. A day hike is another option, you can drive your car to one of the many gated roads/trails and hike into a pristine lake in the wilderness for a day of fishing or sightseeing.
