Chad and Monica moved from the metro phoenix area to Willcox Arizona in the summer of 2015 with the goal of starting a vineyard and winery and living a simpler life in the country. Since moving to Willcox they have cleared 50 acres and planted over 6000 grape vines with more to plant coming soon. They fell in love with the spectacular views, the wildlife and the people. With spectacular sunrises and sunsets  and clear night skies its a beautiful place to live and visit. With a working vineyard and winery you can walk from your camp and buy a bottle of wine or just enjoy a glass on the large deck located at the tasting room that over looks the grain field and silos, orchards and vineyards. There is incredible history that surrounds the area including: Cochise and Geronimo's battle grounds against the US Calvery, the Butterfield Stagecoach routes and pony express trails, The battle of the OK Coral with the Earp Brothers nearby. Birds and Barrels Vineyards is located within one of the only two American Viticulture Areas(AVA's)  in Arizona. Dragoon is rich in history and natural beauty. The name comes from the 3rd U.S. Calvary Dragoons who battled the Chiricahua Apaches here led by Chief Cochise during the Apache Wars. Nearby, you can visit the confederate graves and ruins of the Dragoon Springs Stage Station. About 20 minutes away is Cochise Stronghold, home and burial place of Chief Cochise and Chiricahua Nat'l Monument is about an hour away (great hiking and climbing!). Unique to this area are the amazing rock formations of pillars, balances, and stacked rocks caused by cooled volcanic granite 50 million years ago.  In addition, our area is home to hundreds of different bird species, the occasional Gila monster, coyotes, deer, and javalina.

Bakers Akers is located in what used to be Nebblett, New Mexico but is now Virden, New Mexico. The one room Nebblett school house was located on this property. Virden was settled by the Mormons when they were ran out of old Mexico by Poncho Villa. Kit Carson took this route guiding General Kearney and the Army of the west to California during the Mexican American war. It is now being discussed that Coronado may have come through this area also. The farm was used for breeding and training race horses. It is now a cow/calf operation. Imagine pulling through the gate into Ranchito Paraiso - a desert paradise, seemingly remote, but just minutes from the town of Benson. First, you will feel calm and peaceful. To the left, you will see an abundance of giant Mesquite trees and Kassandra - a lovingly renovated spacious RV nicknamed the Micro Mansion. Farther along, is the rustic elegance of Kasita Morada, the purple house. On your right, you will see the corrals for our sweet donkeys, Miss Fiona, Haiku, and Isla Preciosa, hanging out with their sidekick goats, Harley and Quinn. We live in a ranching community, so neighbors are few (there is a KOA across the north side of our unpaved road). You will love the stars and the moon and the quiet here at the Ranchito. It is a wonderful getaway surrounded by mountain views. The sunsets are magical and sunrises provide beauty and hope. The Ranchito is an artsy retreat with quirky yet elegant accommodations and a wonderful space to breathe, create, write, binge on Netflix, or just take a break to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine and bird watch. The donkeys and goats love our guests, and will patiently stand by for a brush, a cuddle, and a compliment while you sip your favorite beverage. You will be within 15 minutes to Kartchner caverns. Tombstone is 20 mins, whereas Bisbee, AZ vineyards and Tucson are about 40 mins away. The Ranchito is 3/4 mile north of I-10 and one mile from the Amtrak line that runs between LA and Texas. San Pedro golf course is a few hundred yards away, with delicious food and a dog-friendly patio. Even though the grocery store is two miles away, you will feel remote. Elegant glamping is available in a lovingly renovated RV named Kassandra and a custom DIY tiny home (Kasita Morada). Guests find both units quite stunning and well-equipped.
