Caravans don’t come cooler than Airstreams. In the UK, these American imports are few and far between, so when one rolls into view we can’t help but take notice. And the one at Marilyn Meadows has certainly got our attention. It’s a vintage 1956 model, parked up in a meadow that’s filled with wildflowers, offering views across Herefordshire farmland. Its gleaming curves are enough to turn heads but here, in its own private spot, there’s no one around to see it — except you and whoever you’ve come with.
You’ll find Marilyn the Airstream, and her wildflower meadow at the end of a fairylit drive, off a Herefordshire country lane. And, as attention grabbing as she is, she also manages the trick of somehow fitting right in by reflecting the scenery she sits in. Soon enough you’ll be part of that scene; as you get the campfire started, as you relax on the sun loungers or as you sink into the outdoor bath. But before all that, you’ll probably want a peek inside.
Despite her grand age, she’s as shiny inside as out. Her curvy, riveted panels make for a cosy cocoon around the bed and the sofa at the other end. In between is your kitchenette, with cupboards ready stocked with equipment for your stay. There’s a fridge, gas hob, microwave, kettle and sink. And while the formica cupboards are in-keeping with her fifties appeal, the mood lighting, Bluetooth speakers and great WiFi keep you up to date. There’s even a projector so you can watch films from your laptop on the big screen. It’s novelty enough inside but if the weather’s right, take it out and enjoy your own cinema under the stars.
This place is perfect for couples who want a romantic retreat, whether that’s lazing around and enjoying the view or getting outside to explore. Situated between the Wye Valley and the Brecon Beacons, Hereford and Monmouth there’s certainly plenty to do. Hiking up mountains and canoeing down rivers are pretty much normal around here — but there are more unusual options too. However you spend your time, you’re bound to head home with plenty of memories and photos: just you, whoever you’ve come with and, of course, Marilyn Meadows.
