For an adventurous, nature holiday it doesn’t get much better than a stay in a Safari Tent on an organic farm, nestled on the edge of Dartmoor national park. You can expect plenty of fresh air, lots of lovely walks and some time away from the little screens. This is Eversfield Organic and while the holidays they provide are certainly jam packed, they don’t have to be hard work. The Safari Tents have private bathrooms, comfortable beds, log-burning stoves and a welcome pack of organic goodies for a hearty Devonshire breakfast. It’s just the thing to fuel a day out in nearby Dartmoor.
Situated in the village of Bratton Clovelly, Eversfield Organic’s Safari Tents are perched on the edge of a lake and surrounded by farmland that’s grazed by cows. Glampers don’t have access to the working farm, which is the heart of this family-run organic food business, but that’s no matter as there’s plenty of space. There are just two safari tents here with space to play, walk round the lake and sit in the shade of trees. It’s a great place to get away from it all.
Each tent is a self-contained, rustic place to stay, sleeping up to six. Cooking, heating and hot water is all provided from log-burning stoves allowing the rhythm of life to slow to a relaxing pace that suits the countryside setting. But any worries about that morning cuppa can be forgotten as with tea in hand, you can head back to the comfy bed in your canvas bedroom or sit out on the veranda overlooking the private lake.
If you’ve come from the city, this peaceful place might be enough to charm you into spending at least a day just relaxing on site. For local adventures, there’s a pub within walking distance and a larger lake, Roadford, within a short drive but it’s Dartmoor that’s the true attraction. Eversfield Organic’s tents are just seven miles from the north west edge of the national park with its wild moorland, secret swimming holes and river valleys. Lydford Gorge is a popular place to visit on this side of the park and once you’ve seen its waterfalls and whirlpools, perhaps head to nearby Merrivale and the Dartmoor Inn. You’ll be assured of a friendly welcome and a meal to match as it’s another outpost of Eversfield Organic; the perfect place to refuel for the afternoon’s adventures.
