Fernlea is our home in the heart of an agricultural plain called “The Carse of Gowrie,” which runs for 20 miles or so along the River Tay between Perth and Dundee. It’s a beautiful area that we hope you will love too. We are a short walk from the village of Errol, with access to lovely walks along the Tay. We are adjacent to the local bus route (just stick your arm out!), the Sustrans cycle route 77, plus only a mile or so from the A90 Perth to Dundee / Aberdeen road. We are perfect for both a short stopover and a longer break with a fascinating local area to explore. All pitches have hard standing, water on each pitch, grey waste disposal adjacent to the pitch, and a 10 or 16 amp electric supply with a chemical toilet waste tank with rinsing tap behind our garage. We are also within easy access to Fife and the southern area of the Highlands. Walkers and bird watchers will find many footpaths by the River Tay and can climb the local hills to see buzzards, hawks, ducks, and migrating geese throughout the seasons. Any visitors requiring repairs or accessories for their van will find the large Perthshire Caravan dealership nearby. Nearby is Muncaster Castle and Gardens with its Hawk and Owl Centre, also Ravenglass (a Roman port with remains of a bath house), you can ride up the Eskdale Valley on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway (Laal Ratty). Perhaps take a stroll to Stanley Ghyll waterfall. They have a cafe at both terminuses with a museum in Ravenglass where nearby you can sample Ravenglass Ice Cream. Wasdale and Ennerdale are close by both valleys having cafes and pubs.

Staying at Bruce’s house was an absolute pleasure! He was so incredibly helpful and kind and the pod is perfect. I would live there for the rest of my life if I could! The kitchen is great. The hot tub is beyond belief and so good that it’s almost intoxicating. When my boyfriend and I accidentally reset the Internet, Bruce was beyond kind and helpful. Next time I’m in this area I will for sure Be staying here again.

What a beautiful place! Everything we could possibly need was there for us on arrival; the pod was lovely and cozy and it was great to be able to sit out around the firepit in the evening. Birdsong everywhere and plenty of wildlife to see around the place. Sadly it was a bit wet to try the boat out but will have to come back on a sunnier day!

My 2nd time coming here and it didn't disappoint, I didn't want to leave. The pod are beautiful and cosy, exceptionally clean and well looked after. The pods are situation slightly upground which gives them a spectacular view Its so peaceful if you want time to unwind and I really enjoyed the company of the two chickens and the three ducks that visit. Also I love the log bundles that you can buy for the fire pit as it makes starting a fire so easy. Carole and Howard are so friendly and hospitable. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely beautiful site, friendly people around us and the onsite pub food was amazing for one of the nights we visited (pie and gammon are 100% recommend). It was a quick drive from most places we had a day in barnard castle, and this is very pretty. Our dog loved his stay too everywhere we went was dog friendly, with plenty of dog walking spaces for him to run around. Our pod for 4 was very comfortable and picnic bench outside was ideal for breakfast cereal, bring your own cups bowls cutlery and plenty to keep kids busy we took board games and quizzes and he could watch YouTube on his phone. Glad there was a mini fridge kettle (for cuppas) and microwave (for popcorn) we left alcohol outside as it was cold enough overnight. I loved bird spotting on their fields too we will definitely book for the summer time

Where to go

Around Town

There are plenty of places to eat in town, as well as several independent shops worth exploring. The community-run cultural venue, the Buccleuch Centre hosts regular concerts, performances and other events such as farmers' markets and antique fairs. Just outside town, Ewes Water Caravan and Camping Park has level grass pitches.

Ewes Valley

Less than 10 miles north of Langholm, the small settlement of Arkleton is tucked into the Ewes Valley, which is rich with wildlife including majestic golden eagles. Surrounded by woodland, The Walled Garden offers a glamping experience in its static wagon.

Gretna Green

A 20-minute drive south of Langholm, the small village of Gretna Green lies on the border with England and is famed as the UK’s marriage capital thanks to the days when young English couples would elope to marry in Scotland. In the adjacent village of Gretna, Braids Caravan Park has pitches for caravans and motorhomes.

When to go

Langholm and the surrounding area is a year-round destination, but best experienced in the summer when daylight hours are long, the weather is at its best and the calendar is filled with activities. The year’s highlight is the Langholm Common Riding, an all-day spectacle of horsemanship and pageantry, which takes place on the last Friday of July—if visiting at this time, booking your site in advance is recommended.

Know before you go

Wild camping is legal throughout Scotland as long as you follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. If you cross the border into England, be aware that English law prohibits wild camping.
The closest train station is Gretna Green, which has direct services to Glasgow and Carlisle.
You should be able to find all the essentials in Langholm’s small shops, which include national chains and interesting independent businesses.
