Our Huts are located within the Moss Wood area of Bute Forest - a mixed birch and alder wood that extends up the hillside to the west of the A886 that connects the Rhubodach Ferry to Port Bannatyne and Rothesay. Moss Wood has a range of facilities. Park on the shore-side where the coast can be enjoyed or at the main entrance, and take a walk up through Moss Wood along the Poetry Trail. A steep walk in places, the Poetry Trail is a loop punctuated with places to stop and read, to stop and think. Read nature poetry from throughout the ages, stop at the Blether Stane, or taking the spur to the Viewing Point back south across the Kyles. One of the nicest campsites I've ever been to. Extremely remote, but the road leading up is easy to do even with a city car. The hike to Scoraig lighthouse from the campsite is one I'll never forget. The bothy serving as common room is great, nice to get some shelter to prep a meal and relax.

Absolutely stunning campsite - beautiful walk down to the loch which was just so clear and peaceful. Lovely little plots - just right for our campervan. Toilets and showers were clean and functional. Only downside was the midges - I would have loved to stay outside for longer but we had to retreat to the van. Highly recommended though.

We loved the cabin. Spacious and we slept very well. The best shower ever! The campsite has wonderful views and is well maintained. We used the bbq and fire pit. The barn is well equipped for cooking and relaxing. Angus is a wonderful host. Definitely would return to Muiredge when in Scotland!

The pods were clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Unfortunately the fly screen for our door was broken so it was a choice of being gnawed on by midges or being very hot- we chose the heat which was a bit uncomfortable but a fan had been provided which helped. The views were incredible of the loch and mountains and the walking and cycling just stunning. It's a little public with it being next to the main path but if you aren't looking for seclusion then it's fine and we found it vibrant and interesting watching the boats and people coming and going. The food in the cafe was excellent and we enjoyed the take away option, it does close fairly early so best to get there before 5:15pm. All in all it was a beautiful spot and very good accommodation and we had a brilliant time.

Runach Arainn is even more lovely in person than in the photos. Great location for a peaceful and relaxing stay on Arann. The yurts are comfortable, the kitchen/fire-pit etc are well-equipped and the orchard setting is beautiful. It's just a short walk to the beach or to the Lagg Inn for dinner. Highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to Badrallach Campsite

A lovely quiet laid back site with stunning views of the mountains with a short walk down to the loch which gives you fantastic views back across the loch in both directions. Facilities met all my demands, the showers were very good, a Bothy to hand as well if the weather or the midges get to bad. 🤪 Fire pits provided but bring your own wood. I fully recommend a stop here if you are in the area.

The Charcoal Huts were so magical. We stayed in Birch and it had amazing views, was quite private and had everything we needed - including things we forgot. It was beautiful and cosy inside and the fire kept us so warm. I really loved this place.

1 night at West Highland Way Hotel & Campsite

It was amazing! The view of the surrounding fells and farms was so tranquil and peaceful. Andrew was a friendly and helpful host. The property was beautiful and there was a good community of campers there that socialized over breakfast. There were also trails on the property that we didn't get to. I would definitely recommend this campsite to anyone that is going to Scotland

Where to go

Around Town

Within walking distance of the town center, Tobermory Campsite combines a rural atmosphere with the convenience of close proximity to the town’s shops, pubs and restaurants. The small campsite’s pitches are not marked out and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Hardstanding motorhome pitches can be booked, as can a handful of ‘shepherd’s huts’ for a glamping experience.

Salen Bay

Ten miles south of Tobermory and close to Aros Castle, Salen Bay Campsite is set in a hidden-corner of the coast but within walking distance of the village’s amenities (shop, pub, cafe). The site’s hardstanding and tent pitches offer mountain and sea views from all sides and guests can make use of on-site kayak and paddleboard hire to explore the coastline.

Craignure

Twenty miles south of Tobermory, the small village of Craignure is the main port for ferries from the mainland. Within walking distance of the port and perched on the shore, Shieling Holidays has plenty of astroturf tent pitches as well as hardstanding pitches. For those traveling light, there’s also a selection of glamping-style static Shieling tents.

When to go

The best time to visit Mull is from April to September. This is when the weather is driest and the opportunities for wildlife-spotting are best. Guided tours to see eagles, whales and dolphins typically run during this period with the peak months from June to August (the best month for whale watching is August). If you visit in winter, you can be sure of a crowd-free experience but some businesses may be closed.

Know before you go

Wild camping is possible on the Isle of Mull, but campers must adhere to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
CalMac operates three ferries from Mull to the mainland, and one to Iona.
While there is a local bus service on Mull, it is limited. Having your own transport offers far more flexibility.
Don’t worry if you forget something: Tobermory has a supermarket and an outdoor gear store.
The weather is always unpredictable. Even in summer, you should bring warm, wet weather gear.
