Cleghorn Farm is a mixed farm just north east of the market town of Lanark. Comprised of 250 acres of fields and woodland and bounded to the south by Mouse Water, it is a beautiful spot to get away from it all without having to leave it all behind if you don't want to. The fields are grazed and cultivated but the woodlands are much as they were at the end of the last ice age with spectacular walks along Cleghorn Glen with the chance to see badgers, bats, deer and all manner of birds among the towering pine and beech trees.
The Mouse Water (pronounced moose) tumbles down along the edge of the farm and has some glorious pools for swimming, shallows for paddling and some spectacular water falls before it joins the River Clyde, all a gentle walk from the sites.

Tucked away amongst the trees at Bowie Wood, our spacious 6m bell tent is a secluded woodland retreat designed for slowing down, switching off and reconnecting with nature.
Set on its own raised timber platform, the tent looks out into the woodland, with a covered awning creating a sheltered spot to sit outside with your morning coffee or simply listen to the forest around you.
Inside, natural coir flooring, a king-size bed and the warmth of a wood-burning stove create a cosy retreat whatever the Scottish weather decides to do.
This isn't a manicured campsite. You're staying within our woodland, surrounded by mature trees, mossy ground, ferns and wildlife. Red squirrels, roe deer, woodpeckers, buzzards and bats are all visitors to Bowie Wood, and after dark the woodland becomes wonderfully peaceful.
Follow the woodchip path back to your tent, light the stove, make a hot chocolate and settle in for the evening. On clear nights, step outside and look up — away from the bright lights of town, the woodland is a beautiful place for stargazing.
Although it feels hidden away, Bowie Wood is close to Stirling and makes a wonderful base for exploring central Scotland, from Stirling Castle and Bannockburn to the Ochil Hills, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs.
Bowie Wood is an ongoing rewilding project, where we’re working to restore and enhance the woodland while allowing nature to flourish. You may notice areas of ongoing work around the wider site as we continue to improve habitats, paths and facilities. We aim to keep any disruption to guests to a minimum.

Welcome to Fernlea. We would love to have you visit us, either on our 5 pitch campsite for motorhomes and caravans, or in 2025 to our new luxury glamping pod.
Fernlea is our home in the heart of an agricultural plain called “The Carse of Gowrie,” which runs for 20 miles or so along the River Tay between Perth and Dundee. It’s a beautiful area that we hope you will love too.
We are a short walk from the village of Errol, with access to lovely walks along the Tay. We are adjacent to the local bus route (just stick your arm out!), the Sustrans cycle route 77, plus only a mile or so from the A90 Perth to Dundee / Aberdeen road. We are perfect for both a short stopover and a longer break with a fascinating local area to explore.
All pitches have hard standing, water on each pitch, grey waste disposal adjacent to the pitch, and a 10 or 16 amp electric supply with a chemical toilet waste tank with rinsing tap behind our garage.
We are also within easy access to Fife and the southern area of the Highlands. Walkers and bird watchers will find many footpaths by the River Tay and can climb the local hills to see buzzards, hawks, ducks, and migrating geese throughout the seasons.
Any visitors requiring repairs or accessories for their van will find the large Perthshire Caravan dealership nearby. Every Sunday, one of Scotland’s largest car boot sales and markets is held less than a mile away.

Ruth and Scott were the ideal hosts. I stayed at their property for the week and thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Peebles. Communication with Ruth was clear and concise from first communication. I found the property easily, it felt safe and a lovely nook. The location of their property is perfect as it’s a short walk to town and just far enough out to be peaceful.
I enjoyed many walks and there are still so many for me to do; next time!
Castle walk, river, tunnel, old churches, historical buildings all nearby and such a welcoming community. I saw a fringe musical theatre show at the local East Gate Theatre.
Peebles has a co piece of my heart and I hope to be back one day.
Thank you Ruth and Scott for such a memorable week.

What a beautiful spot for some camping. It is a short walk up to the campsite itself but the hosts provide wheelbarrows to help move things back and forth.
The campsite itself is lovely, enough space to keep to yourself, or plenty of room around the firepit for everyone.
Stunning views of the countryside, with only the odd train passing nearby. The occasional sounds of the deer and cows, alongside the bird calls helped settle me into the nature nearby.
Hosts clearly care very much about the campsite, accessiblity to the outdoors, and giving back to the land.
Would absolutely recommend, and will book again.

My wife and I spent 5 nights here in our roof top tent with a second tent to sit and cook in. We are totally self sufficient carrying all our own food, water and toilet facilities. We were the only ones camping there, and it was so peaceful and quiet, with just the sound of birds singing and owls twittering. Malcolm was incredibly friendly and checked to see we were ok and made sure we had plenty of wood for huge camp fires. We were completely surrounded by trees and even though the main road was not far away we could not hear any traffic noise. It was the rise of the midge season and local pharmacies sold sprays and lotions that contain 50% diet which came in handy. If you want safe wild camping then this is the place to stay. Will go back.

Hi just back from malcom's the place is amazing we parked in the middle of the woods all u can hear is the wild life and malcom he is such a nice and friendly guy and he brings u loads of fire wood for your fire pit and the 2 dogs loved it and will i go back there again well the answer is yes will be there again the end of month if u want to go wild no electric no water well sorry there's a fresh water spring in the woods and it tastes better than my tap water but if u want to go of grid in the wild give malcom a call you will enjoy came back feeling brand new and can't wait till end of month to get back there

Where to go
In Balloch
One of the most popular visitor activities in Balloch is taking a trip on the loch aboard the restored paddle steamer, the Maid of the Loch, from Balloch Pier. A 10-minute walk from the pier, Lomond Woods Holiday Park has touring pitches, as well as a selection of glamping pods and static caravans (including one with a hot tub).
Luss
Less than 15 minutes north of Balloch, Luss is a beautiful village with a long sandy beach and another main gateway into Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Just outside the village, Luss Caravan and Campsite is set on the western banks of Loch Lomond and offers pitches with a view for tents and tourers.
Balmaha
Further up the loch from Balloch, Balmaha has a good visitor centre and is another typical departure point for cruises on the loch. The long-distance West Highland Way walking route passes nearby. Just north of the village, Milarrochy Bay Camping and Caravanning Club Site enjoys a tranquil setting and pitches for tents and tourers.
Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park
Heading deeper into the National Park, you’ll find a variety of campsites in the park, including the basic campground on Inchcailloch island on Loch Lomond, accessed by boat from Balmaha. It’s one of the few places in Scotland with restrictions on wild camping: in some areas campers are restricted to designated sites where permits are required from March through September.
When to go
For long and often sunny days, May through September is usually thought to be the best period to visit the Loch Lomond area. However, as one of Scotland’s top attractions and easily accessible, the area can get very crowded with tourists in summer, especially in July and August. September and October are very appealing months to visit as most of the large crowds will have gone and the landscape is covered in rich autumnal colurs and blooming purple heather.
Know before you go
- Be sure to adhere to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code while visiting the area, and, if planning to wild camp, check for restrictions ahead of time.
- Balloch is within easy reach of Glasgow. Driving and travellling by train typically takes around 40 minutes.
- Biting midges are a common nuisance in the summer. It’s a good idea to wear long sleeves and bring repellent.
