Spotlessly clean, the showers and facilities were as good as at home, the extra added thoughtfulness of clean bath mats tea towels washing up liquid and lots of toilet paper and hand towel and soap.
My shepherds hut was delightful, and yet again everything I needed with the welcoming cream tea, milk, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, spotlessly clean as everywhere was.
The windmill, the bakery, the café, my grandchildren loved the animals and the play area. There is absolutely not a thing I can think of that was not perfect. Oh I forgot to mention the games room. Thank you

This has got to be one of the best campsites ever. The facilities are incredible, surrounded by trees, walkable distance to a brewery, cafe and broad and never too busy even when fully booked. I'm actually hesitant to write this review as I want to keep the secret to myself!

I don't normally post a review online but Fire and feast was exceptional, I'm even hesitant to share this review because I want to keep it to myself but that would be unfair to Judith, Fran, and Co. What an amazing camping experience from start to finish. Loads of room for each pitch, very laid back atmosphere, food is amazing, facilities are better than some hotels, there's even some lesser known activities a short drive a way. You will not be upset after a weekend here. I will be booking again!

We loved the campsite and can’t wait to come again. The pitch is very private but still has a communal feel to it. The barn has great bathroom facilities, fridge and freezer for storing food and Judith and the team are very responsive to any questions or things you might need. A beautiful campsite!

The friendly team made me really welcome - enjoyed their knowledge of local history, maps, farming and of course their vision and commitment to raising sustainable food and contributing to the local food culture. And the facilities were great! I think the showers alone would even persuade my camping sceptic husband to join me another time! Highly recommended.

A great location - 3 minute walk from the beach. Campsite has showers and toilet blocks that are fairly basic but clean and proper buildings/structures. Camp pitches are fairly close together, but the campsite lead is fairly relaxed about the tent locations. An easy going vibe overall and peaceful setting.

A lovely place to stay with great views after climbing the windmill, freshly baked bread on the premises and friendly staff.
Clean showers and bathrooms.

4 nights at Bircham Windmill
The pitches are a really good size so you don't feel on top of each other. It is a small site, which is a bonus. The shepherd's hut was really comfortable with lots of thoughtful touches and a cream tea to welcome you. The site is very pretty and sitting in the morning with a cup of tea looking at the windmill and seeing the horse, donkey, lambs and chicken was a wonderful start to the day.

we loved camping here, the place is quiet and there is everything you need. Toilets were clean, there is a small shop where you can buy snacks. You can charge your phone for a small fee, and Linda is very helpful is sharing information and suggestions on things to do in the area. We had a great time and the children loved playing football in the field and building a den in the forest.

Close to beach.
Next to the Norfolk Coastal walk.
Nigel met us on arrival.
Introduced to the dogs and chickens (and spotted a fluffy cat).
We loved the relaxed air of the camp field but everything looks like it’s in a state of building or maintenance! Which, to be fair Nigel said they were renovating the barn to accommodate more indoor campers.
We had ‘camper van with awning’ as we brought our own bell tent, there were more of this type, one shepherds hut in the same field and at least three other shepherds huts secluded behind the barn.
There is the potential for four washing up sinks - only one had water working.
Toilet block with three male, three female loos and hand washing. Two showers - also in this block.
Side of the barn was also showers and single toilets with two stand alone basins outside.
Water points everywhere.
We used electric hook up which was good and consistent. WiFi was also working where we were, only used it for the radio though.
Some hard standing was a bit dubious with the hard core having glass and pottery mixed in.
We brought bicycles and really had to watch where we pushed them.
Overall, loved the rustic camp ground, would hope the hard standing would be sorted out soon.

When to go
Summer is peak season at Wicken Fen, and the boardwalks can get crowded, especially on weekends and school holidays. Some of the best wildlife-watching opportunities are in springtime, while increased rainfall through autumn and winter makes the wild landscapes appear even more dramatic. The reserve is open year-round, but boat tours and bike rentals are only available from Easter through October.
Know before you go
- Wicken Fen is located in Cambridgeshire, about a 40-minute drive from Cambridge.
- There’s no public transport to the park, but trains run to Ely, a 20-minute taxi ride away.
- The reserve has restrooms, a café, and a visitor centre. Bike rental is available, but advance booking is recommended.
- There is an entrance fee to visit the reserve, as well as a parking fee.
- The boardwalks are accessible for wheelchairs, but advance booking is recommended as access can be tricky at busy times.
