Time for a slice of the simple life? Grab a peaceful Lake District pitch at Church Lane Campsite and immerse yourselves in proper scenic countryside with few distractions. This back to basics site has life’s essentials in place – in the form of drinking water, toilets and showers – but hasn’t gone overboard with other facilities, so you’ll simply be left to set up your space and soak up the gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. Pitches here are on grass with trees around the field to provide a bit of shelter and shade – and the views are pretty much green as far as you can see. This setting gives the place a remote atmosphere that’s well suited to adventurous travellers, nature lovers and serenity-seeking couples or families. That said, it’s not actually all that remote – handily, you’ll be able to drive to Kendal in about 10 minutes for cultural attractions, shops and places to eat, and popular Windermere is about the same distance in the other direction. Closer still are a smart rural restaurant and the little village of Crook, a mile away and the home of the local pub – both excellent options for a good feed.

Nestled between the Western Lake District Fells and the Irish Sea coast this site is situated on a working dairy and sheep farm. Farm tours can be arranged on arrival. There are 5 campervan/motorhome pitches, a modern take on a shepherds hut with underfloor heating, a heated pod and two gypsy caravans with electricity to book. All pitches are on gravel positioned to enjoy views over farmland to Scafell Pike and other fells, they are surrounded by grassy areas with seating and a picnic table. A wooden play hut has outdoor games and toys inside. Awnings can be added on the 3 larger pitches. Tents can be pitched next to units for extra Barbeques are allowed on gravel with our Gypsy Caravans having a campfire There is a communal fridge freezer. Farm tours can be arranged. Wildlife and farm animals can be seen in the surrounding fields. Grocery deliveries accepted from supermarkets. There is also a holiday cottage on the farm sleeping 6 over two rooms.
Situated midway between the Western Lake District Fells and the Irish Sea Coast makes this site ideal for lower or higher level walks. Sandy beaches at Seascale and St Bees have cafes selling locally made ice cream alongside play areas to keep children happy. Scafell England's highest mountain is close by as are a number of Wainwrights.
Nearby is Muncaster Castle and Gardens with its Hawk and Owl Centre, also Ravenglass, a Roman port. You can ride up the Eskdale Valley on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. Perhaps take a stroll to Stanley Ghyll waterfall. There are cafes at both terminuses with a museum in Ravenglass where nearby you can sample Ravenglass Ice Cream. Wasdale and Ennerdale are close by both valleys having cafes and pubs.

Built in 1733, King Garth is also known as The Old Customs House, reflecting its role in these fraught times of smuggling. Its strategic position on the banks of The Eden served as the perfect lookout for a bailiff employed by Carlisle Corporation to protect the very important salmon fishery. The plaques on the building which commemorate the visits by Mayors date back to the 1700s. These visits no doubt involved indulgent banquets centring around freshly caught salmon
I grew up on the opposite side of the river. On family walks along the Eden I was always fascinated by the house on the other side sited in such an amazing position.
In 2010, when I returned to Cumbria I was amazed to hear that this house was for sale. It was a ruin and everyone told me I was mad..... I probably was a little! But I soon realised that I wasn’t alone in my love of this house, everyone I met from the surrounding villages had a tale to tell about this iconic place. King Garth is for sharing - with locals, (we have an annual barbecue), with wildlife and with people like you.
The aim when renovating King Garth was to celebrate and embrace its history. King Garth is off grid and has no running water. It is furnished in a style to reflect its history. It isn’t everyone’s ‘cup of tea’: you have to drive a mile down a muddy lane, there is no hot shower, no electric lighting, and a compost toilet. BUT we offer beautiful evenings of candle light, log burner, hot tub under the stars and bathing in the river.
My priority with King Garth and the land attached was to manage in a way to protect the abundant wildlife. There are also alpacas who you can look after during your stay.
You will be astounded by the din the birds make at dawn and dusk!
Inside the house there is an owl box where one summer a pair of barn owls successfully raised chicks. Since then a kestrel frequents the box and has twice laid there.
This part of the Eden is tidal so both estuarine and river species co exist. Kingfishers and otters are often spotted And even the occasional seal! Kinggarth comes with fishing rights and if you want to fish this can be arranged with the host.
The bird feeders are frequented by tree sparrows, yellow hammers, wood peckers, nut hatches and in winter red poll.

Beautiful views, calm and simple. Sharelle was very welcoming. The camp site is well kept and clean. There’s firewood purchasable and potable water. We didn’t bring our fire pit, but the gentleman that came over to welcome us offered one to us that we could borrow and use which was very kind. Sharelle invited the children to play on the trampoline and swings the have in their own garden just at the edge of the site. Only £20 to stay the night too, it was lovely.
The only thing I’d suggest to improve, and I think would be a huge plus for them is if they invested in some portaloo’s or something of that nature as there’s no toilets around anywhere.

The pods were great, they had everything you needed including salt, pepper, sugar, tea coffee and milk, and were clean and comfortable. The camp site was nice and quiet and we enjoyed watching the cows in the neighbouring fields. We had an issue with the electrics while we were there and Terry the owner came down straight away and sorted it for us, which was massively appreciated.

Firstly let me start by saying Ted ( the owner ) is one of the most genuine, kind hearted people I’ve met in a long time ! He is incredibly friendly and really welcoming. From the minute me and my partner got to his site, we were greeted by himself and his pup ( maggy ) who came over and gave us plenty of attention !!
The overall location is perfect if you are wanting a little getaway. The little stream that runs near by the trees was extremely relaxing. Little to none midgies so you can comfortably stay outside of your tent until later hours.
We were invited in to Teds for a little brew and to meet some more of his dogs ! We certainly will be looking to come again that’s for sure ! Thank you so much Ted !

Such an amazing stay - we loved having the whole field to ourselves and the doggos being able to roam off lead. The cabin was super cozy and we loved the outdoor covered kitchen area. So many small touches made this off grid stay feel like a proper luxury. Everything was super clean (even the BBQ!).
Excellent views, proximity to loads of lovely little walks and adventures, cool wildlife. Susan was so welcoming and helpful but also content to just leave you be to enjoy the land.
A couple things to be prepared for -
To get there, you need to take your vehicle up a rough gravel path.
There's no fridge so if you need milk for your tea, you may need to bring a cooler.
We're already planning our next visit. 🙌

Lovely stay in a lovely location! Would highly recommend for a few days of switching off. A car is necessary and I’d recommend bringing your own food to cook! A cool box would also be useful if it’s warm as there isn’t anywhere to store food.

We had the BEST 2 nights here, it’s like paradise, the lake and grounds are so stunning and peaceful. On our first night we spotted a big tawny owl watching us from a tree, just beautiful. Literally everything you could need is here and we loved being all cosy in the hut together whilst it was raining. We just had so much fun and quality time together enjoying the simple life and cannot wait to come again thank you so much xxx

2 nights at Otter Moss Accommodation
We had such a lovely time staying in the cabin at Otter Moss for my boyfriend’s birthday weekend. It was the perfect getaway. It’s a really rustic and cozy spot, and the countryside around it is just beautiful. We had so much fun taking the rowboat out on the pond, and we even got to meet the two wild red deer that live on the land. They’re a mother and daughter, and they were so curious and friendly, which made the stay even more special. The hosts were also amazing. We were having a nightmare with transport, but they went out of their way to pick us up and drop us off, which helped us out so much. We’re so grateful for their hospitality and for helping us have such a great birthday weekend. Definitely recommend staying here if you want a nice, quiet break.

Weekend Trip to Harebeck Holidays @ Thornbank Farm
Lovely farm site. Spent 2 nights in one of the gypsy bow tops, great facilities including an air fryer, kettle and fridge. Nice little bottle of wine on arrival too. Well located for the nearby village with pubs and eateries. Great location for visiting Ravenglass Railway and Muncaster Castle.

Myself and my partner stayed at the sight for 3 nights and the view of the lake from pur pitch was beautiful. And i think if we had parked anywhere it would have just been as good. Was busy on the saturday with other people but we stayed sunday night also when the sight was much quieter no issues at all either night. Tom was great we came straight after work on the friday meaning we got their quite late but told him in advance and was no issues! He even charged up our portable battery pack for us and was always to hand at a text message away. Shower and toilet facilities were just what you expected also and was a nice surprise to find hot showers! Also we loved how we could have our own fire, but saw plenty of other people buying the bags of logs provided and renting the firepits which was a nice touch! Would and will definitely be booking to come again!
