We chose the upper circle which gave us a lot more space and better views.

I loved the campsite. The plots were very spacious and not at all crammed in, so there was lots of room for my toddler to run around in. The facilities were good as there was a static caravan with a kitchen, bathroom, toilet and even a couple of lounge areas, which would be useful if you got bad weather. It was so handy having the use of a hot water for washing up. I would definitely go back!

We loved tent camping at Walkmill, the site was beautifully maintained in a stunning location near the river. Plenty of wildlife to enjoy while sat around the fire pit - we saw a barn owl and hares during our two night stay. The pitches were well spaced out and the site shop had everything you might need in a pinch -we recommend bringing cash for the honesty box. The location is a 45min walk to Warkworth Castle and the coast/coastal path so there is plenty to keep you busy. We are looking forward to coming back!

Lovely host, travelled from south west England to do the NC500 and this campsite has every essential you could possibly need. Would have loved to stay longer! Gorgeous peaceful spot next to the river.

Beautiful quiet site. The tent felt entirely private/separate from the few others on the site. Well equipped and comfortable. Perfectly located for exploring the North East coast. Campbell was really helpful and made our stay great. Couldn't recommend more!

Lovely campsite with excellent facilities. All very clean and in good condition. The hosts were very helpful and the little shop is stocked with some great stuff.
Considering how remote the site is, it was very easy to find. The area it's in is great for peaceful walks.

Best campsites for surfing in Hadrian’s Wall guide
When to go
Summer is peak season, and popular attractions such as Chesters Roman Fort and Housesteads Roman Fort can get busy. Book tickets in advance and make the most of free events and children's entertainment hosted throughout July and August. Hiking is best from May through October, but Northern England's weather is notoriously changeable, so come prepared. Parts of Hadrian's Wall are remote and rural, so access may be limited by weather conditions in winter.
Know before you go
- There are multiple sites to view Hadrian's Wall throughout Northumberland, Cumbria, and Tyne and Wear, and they are all easily reached by car. A shuttle bus also runs between towns and attractions along the Hadrian's Wall Path between April and September.
- Hadrian's Wall and most of its attractions are outdoors, so dress according to the weather and be prepared for sites to get muddy during wet periods. A raincoat or umbrella is recommended, even in summer.
- Wild camping is not permitted anywhere along the Hadrian's Wall Path, but there are campsites and caravan parks close to each section of the trail.
- Many sites are accessible for wheelchairs, but access to more remote areas is limited.
