Ramble along to Hastingford Fishery, an adults-only shepherd's hut and fishing site set in a scenic lakeside setting less than five minutes’ drive from the East Sussex village of Hadlow Down and 20 minutes from Royal Tunbridge Wells. This site should suit couples or singles wanting to 'get away from it all' and also fishing fans down to the ground. It’s got several fishing lakes to choose from with lots of different species, so settle down on the banks with rod in hand and while away a few hours (or days) in quiet contemplation, waiting for something to bite. But please note, the site is not for 'competition anglers' although there are plenty of good sized carp around. and asks anyone fishing to only use barbless hooks, and for fish to be returned to the lake quickly after being caught.Not the fishing type? Chill out in and around your secluded hut, or there’s plenty to entertain in a leisurely fashion: paths wind around the lakes and through copses/shaws (as this is the High Weald) plus through the local countryside. There are spectacular views towards the South Downs National Park from the top lakes. A spring-fed lake is also on site to cool off in with some wild swimming. The camping field is fairly big and basically bare (as can be seen on the pictures). Everything went as expected, toilets and showers were functional (even though not the cleanest and prettiest but that is to be expected from a camp of this size I suppose). Since the field is so big, it was quite windy without anything to break the winds but otherwise all good.

We loved visiting Dogwood. We visited on a whim one Sunday evening in early September, needing a break from the city. We were pleased to be welcomed warmly by Phil, who was accommodating and available, despite the random timing ! We had the site to ourselves, and loved the peace and quiet - only accompanied by the animals who were roaming the site. The toilet and shower facilities were close by and clean, well maintained for the end of season, beginning of off-season. The site is well positioned and sign posted, a short walk from two pubs and a small shop, easily drivable into Rye, Hastings or Camber for whatever your stay is for!

Lovely sheltered meadow with 6 or 7 bell tents nicely spaced out. You can have basic or comfort tent and a variety of extras can be provided by Kelly on request. Excellent shower/loo facilities cleverly sited in a converted horsebox beside a little kitchen area - all with loads of instant hot water. Each tent has its own area for dining/camp fires but there is also a communal campfire and bbq. Set in the heart of the countryside but within a 5/10 min drive of some pubs, Hastings and the coast, with something for everyone in the surrounding area. We loved it!! Beautiful little spot with plenty to do in the surrounding areas. Whether it’s walking trails, pubs, wineries or even a medieval town. There’s no water on the block but the local morrison’s is happy for you to bring water from there to the camp. Highly recommend and gorgeous spot to set up camp.

The camping was very nice, it had for its price what you would expect. Also was it very calm and you didnt hear lots and lots of cars coming past. I do recommand it if your planning to stay there for a very short period of time. Futher the minus was that the toilet was extremely dirty. It also stinks a lot and doesnt get cleaned enough.

Our stay at Graham's cabin was great. As advertised, the cabin does not have bedding, so bring your own! The cabin was basic but enough for a good night's sleep. The facilities were good. While the logistics of getting booked in are a little complicated, Graham was incredibly caring in ensuring we found our way to the cabin at night. He went the 'extra mile' to ensure we would have a good stay. It all worked fine. The location is great. Right on the river, next to the lock. And a great little canteen serving lovely food with outdoor seating. I recommended this as a good cheap place to stay.

Very convenient to find and access, and the A27 road noise wasn't too loud. Great location for a base to explore the many attractions in local area.

Hook up and running water was great. We managed ok because we had trailer tent with hot water.. One toilet was ok as we were the only ones on site! Beautiful and peaceful.. birds singing and close to The Railway pub and little village. Walks too were good! a great getaway. We did a week so yes would recommend it.

Seven Sisters Country Park

One of coastal England’s most superbly scenic stretches, this 280-hectare park ripples across the Cuckmere River valley, chalk grasslands, and the undulating, salt-white Seven Sisters cliffs, west of Eastbourne. A challenging branch of the South Downs Way tracks up and down along the clifftops, with dazzling views across the channel.

South Downs National Park

Beyond the Seven Sisters area, the South Downs roll northwest all the way to Winchester, taking in chalk-dusted hills, gorgeously green landscapes, lively market towns, and, of course, superb country pubs. Adventurous souls can go hiking, cycling, horse riding, and even paragliding, while campsites, glamping pods, and caravan spots pop up everywhere from riverside farms to cliffview coastal parks.

High Weald AONB

England’s fourth-largest AONB packs in 580 square miles of Sussex, Kent, and Surrey countryside sprinkled with ancient castles, gardens, and mansions. Go kayaking across lakes, hike along the escarpment, explore the sprawling heaths, and try paddleboarding or sailing with a wealth of delightful glamping, camping, and caravanning sites to pick from along the way.

Kent Downs

Inland from Kent’s chalk-dusted coastline (where dynamic towns such as Folkestone, Margate, Deal, and Whitstable await), the Kent Downs AONB delivers almost 350 square miles of centuries-old beech woodlands, scenic farmscapes, and windswept scarps. It’s a wonderfully refreshing natural space for hiking, horse riding, and cycling with view-splayed trails including the long-distance North Downs Way. This also makes it a popular on-the-doorstep escape from London, so you’ll want to book that secluded pop-up farm campsite well ahead.
