I had a lovely stay, Despite visiting in October, the Shepard’s hut kept me nice and warm. The hut was as pictured and described. There were lots of lovely nearby walks. The Shepard’s hut was very accommodating for the dogs too who enjoyed their stay and use of the field. Thank you.

Weekend Trip to Huckleberry Farm
Our getaway to Huckleberry Farm was a gift for my husband’s birthday. Everything from start to finish was really organised and fun. Met all of our expectations. Charlotte and everyone on site were really helpful and sweet. We enjoyed horse riding and seeing the guinea pigs. We stayed in the shepherd’s hut, a clean and well maintained space that felt like home for the night. All in all a wonderful experience. Completely recommend! Thank you Charlotte and everyone at Huckleberry Farm for having Ali & I. Looking back to visiting again sometime soon!

1 night at Bircham Windmill
Spotlessly clean, the showers and facilities were as good as at home, the extra added thoughtfulness of clean bath mats tea towels washing up liquid and lots of toilet paper and hand towel and soap.
My shepherds hut was delightful, and yet again everything I needed with the welcoming cream tea, milk, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, spotlessly clean as everywhere was.
The windmill, the bakery, the café, my grandchildren loved the animals and the play area. There is absolutely not a thing I can think of that was not perfect. Oh I forgot to mention the games room. Thank you

Our stay at Over the Moon was absolutely perfect. Ruth was super friendly and gave clear instructions on how to find them, and replied quickly to any questions. The location is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. The hut had everything we needed and the bed was huge and very comfortable. We can’t wait to come stay again!

We had the best time in the Shepherd's Huts - it's such a magical place to stay, with beautiful views over the fields and even it's own little woodland walk. We spent two nights just us and our son, then my cousins pitched a tent on the third night. It was so peaceful to be surrounded by nature and have the place to ourselves. The huts were beautiful and cosy and the beds were comfy too. There was everything we needed to have a camping experience that felt both wild yet easy and with all that we needed. I recently stayed at Dorothy and it was everything I didn’t know I needed. From the moment I arrived, I felt wrapped in peace; the kind that quiets the mind and nourishes the soul. Lovely as always! This was my second visit to the Shepherds Hut, and it was just as great as my first visit.
The inside was cosy, tidy and firewood bundle was a great addition for the cooler summer nights!

We had a lovely stay at Little Ranch. Rod made us feel so welcome and our daughter loved exploring the farm and meeting the animals. The hut is beautifully designed being both spacious and and cosy, with everything you need to relax and enjoy your stay. The little extras on arrival really made it special. We enjoyed some nice walks along the canal, evenings toasting marshmallows by the fire and just really appreciated the peaceful location. We highly recommend Little Ranch and hope to be back again soon!

Fenton was a lovely shepherds hut. Fantastic location and surrounded by beautiful nature.
Hosts were fantastic, great to have breakfast, coffees and pizzas within 2 mins walk.

Have already recommended this place to friends. We had a lovely stay in the sunshine. The hut is has everything you need in a compact but unsquashy space. Enjoyed some fine walks and a super day out in Ruthin. We'd also recommend the Red Lion for a visit. Ruth & Jude were both very helpful and welcoming. I'm sure we'll come back.

I had a wonderful stay in this charming shepherd’s hut nestled in a peaceful meadow. The hut was beautifully equipped with everything I needed for a comfortable and cozy getaway. The surrounding area was lovely, with fruit to pick and plenty of space for the dogs, who absolutely loved it! The hosts were fabulous—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommend this little gem for a relaxing countryside retreat.

2 nights at Hendred Farm Huts
Stayed at Dorothy and it was the perfect stay especially as we were celebrating my boyfriends birthday. We were lucky enough to have the whole area to ourselves, and the weather was beautiful. We loved the peacefulness and hearing the church bells in the distance was and added bonus. The bed was very comfortable and we adored the shepherd's hut and loved that every little detail was thought off even the spare phone chargers. Pub was a lovely surprise just how close it was and the food was exceptional

Where to go
Peak District National Park
In a largely flat country, the Peak District stands apart as an attractive natural playground of high moorland plateaus, steep limestone valleys, and cliffy outcrops. Campers staying in Derby city can visit the national park on day trips for hiking or biking adventures, bring a tent for camping, or stay in a glamping pod at a campsite within the Peak District National Park. Wild camping isn’t automatically allowed in the park—to do so, you must get permission from individual landowners, but there are also a variety of privately run campsites around the park.
Nottingham
Just half-an-hour’s drive east of Derby, the larger city of Nottingham is perhaps best known for its place in the Robin Hood legend, so visitors can experience Sherwood Forest and other Robin Hood-themed attractions. It’s easy to visit on a day trip while camping in Derby, or find a campsite or caravan park on the edge of Nottingham city, some of which are located on farmland.
Cannock Chase
Less than an hour’s drive southwest of Derby, this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has been nicknamed the jewel of the West Midlands. Here, you can walk, cycle, or ride horses in the Cannock Chase woodlands and forests, alongside canals and rivers, and learn about the history of this area that was the hunting forest of William the Conqueror almost 1,000 years ago. Campers can stay at caravan parks within the area, around Stafford, or around Derby and visit on a day trip.
When to go
Spring and summer are the best times to visit Derby, as the days are longest and the weather is most pleasant for Peak District camping and outdoor activities. Winters are cold, with occasional snow at city level and more frequent snow in the Peak District. Some campsites and caravan parks close for the winter season.
