Where to go

Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

As its name suggests, this AONB showcases some of the most breathtaking coastal scenes in England. Wander sandy paths, hike along parts of the Suffolk Coast Path, and watch for diverse bird species like the redshank in the estuaries. Nearby campsites accommodate both tents and caravans, with amenities including electrical hookups, picnic areas, and firepits. On a camping trip during colder months, find something different and stay in a glamping pod that’s fully heated and insulated.

Broads National Park

Known for its unique network of rivers and lakes, Broads National Park is a paradise for campers who love water-based activities. Explore areas like Wroxham Broad and Hickling Broad, navigate the waters on a boat or canoe on River Waveney, or simply enjoy the diverse wildlife that populates the region, like the swallowtail and the rare Norfolk hawker dragonfly. Various camping sites are nestled within and around the park, equipped with facilities for tents, caravans, and even yurts. Expect amenities such as fresh water points, waste disposal, and electric hookups.

Dunwich Heath and Beach

A true gem for nature lovers, Dunwich Heath and Beach offers a calm retreat from the bustle of daily life. The heath, ablaze with purple heather in late summer, is ideal for serene walks, while the pebbly shingle beach with rare plant and wildlife species offers campers a leisurely stroll along the coast. Birdwatching enthusiasts can spot a variety of species in the area, such as the stonechat, skylark, and Dartford warbler. Coastal campsites provide amenities like toilets, washrooms, and beach access, while holiday cottage rentals are also available along the waterfront.

When to go

Kessingland and its surrounding areas are popular during summer months, with temperatures averaging 20°C and pleasant conditions for hiking, birdwatching, and boating. The cooler spring and autumn seasons bring vibrant colours to the landscape, perfect for photographers and nature enthusiasts. Winter, while chillier, still has its charm, especially for campers who appreciate the serenity of year-round coastal cottages under a light frost.
