**Please note the address is 9665 SR 50, Pelham, TN 37301** The best part about this site are the views! Relax on the side of the Cumberland Plateau while overlooking Burroughs Cove and the Elk River. You can see the camp sites from the main road, so there will be some road noise. Sites 1/2 are hard/large graveled, tent camping will be very challenging, heavy duty tent stakes are highly recommended with mats/padding. There is an electrical box at each end of the hard graveled parking areas (Sites 1 and 2) with 20- and 30-amp plugs, plus 110v. If the power is not working, please check the panel and turn on/reset the breakers, many of our guests turn them off when departing. If you are at Site #2 and the steps above do not work, please check/do the same at the Site #1 panel (it is the master power source). Water is NOT available on site. NOTE: Depending on the time of year (warmer months only) a water container with a limited amount of NON-POTABLE water is on site for your use. Please plan on filling your water reservoir(s) PRIOR to arriving. There is an outhouse for all guests, picnic tables and fire rings for Sites 1 and 2. The camping area is fairly close to SR-50 so please expect to hear some road noise, more so in the winter months. The entrance/driveway is on a small incline, if you are traveling in a light vehicle and a heavy camper, it's best to maintain a slow and steady speed to the camp site (for almost everyone, this is not an issue). If you are towing a camper, we recommend the total length of the vehicle and the trailer not exceeding 30ft, There is not a significant place to "turn around" at the sites and novice drivers (not used to backing out of tight spots with longer rigs) may find this very challenging. There is a double gate that is usually closed, and latched so it stays closed, it is not "locked". The site is self-serve (not manned), Site #1 is to the left, Site #2 is to the right, and Site #3 is down the path past the outhouse at the bottom of the path. It is recommended that campers set up early for Site 3 (still daylight) to get an idea of the layout. Parking for Site #3 is by the shed at the main entrance and power is not available at the site.

**Please note the address is 9665 SR 50, Pelham, TN 37301** This is a tent site below the overlook, look for signs on the path going past the outhouse. This site is heavily shaded, has a natural fireplace, and is quite secluded. It is down a steep path from available parking, but well worth it!! Would recommend setting up camp prior to sunset, anywhere in the general area is available for use. The site is approximately 15 minutes from South Cumberland State Park where you can hike, picnic, and enjoy beautiful waterfalls and picturesque sunsets. If you are catching a show at The Caverns, this site is only 10 minutes from the venue. Campers will be able to enjoy spending time adventuring on 8 acres while being minutes from restaurants, museums, zip lines, and more. This site is easily accessed from State Route 50 which is approximately 8 miles off I24 exit 127. Please expect to hear some road noise from vehicles traveling the mountain road. Need firewood? Let us know and we can have it delivered to your campsite before you arrive, enough wood for the night (and then some) $35.

Site #1 is approx. 50ft from Site #2, Site #3 (tent site) is farther down the hill and separated from the top RV/camp sites. If privacy is important, guests may consider booking both sites (if available). Need firewood? Let us know and we can have it delivered to your campsite before you arrive, enough wood for the night (and then some) $35.

Beautiful view. I really think #1 is the best way to go if you can rent that one. Renting both would probably be the best experience because they are kind of close together. Host responsive and nice!!

View is incredible. Our rig was a little tight at ‘34. Power was also iffy as we tripped the pedestal and had to leave a day early. If you can dry camp, it’s definitely a good option.

4 out of 5. The views are the kind of thing that stick with you, beautiful and worth the trip, the kind that make you stop and actually breathe for a second. The sites themselves are tight, though, and you feel it when you try to get set up. I would not bring anything over 30 feet total unless you are reserving both spots, it just will not flow right. Communication was spot on, and everything came exactly as described, clear and specific. Overall, a place I would recommend, but with the caveat that the beauty is in the view, not in the elbow room.

The views here are absolutely stunning. Spot 1 is definitely worth booking if available, as it offers the best vantage point on the property. Spot 2 is still lovely, but doesn't quite compare to the panoramic views from Spot 1. I checked out Spot 3 during my stay, and it would be perfect for anyone with a camper with tents. The self-check-in system works well, and I appreciated not having to coordinate with a host, which made for a very peaceful, low-key experience. My only real complaint is that when all spots are occupied, it can feel a bit cramped. The parking for Spot 3 is located right next to Spot 2, which diminishes the sense of privacy you'd expect when camping. Overall, a beautiful spot that's perfect for a quiet getaway, especially if you can snag Spot 1. Consider avoiding busy weekends if you prefer more solitude.

Nice view, but it’s right by the road and it’s pretty loud. Getting a trailer over 20’ is not easy and the ground is big gravel, which is nice for trailers, but tough on the feet. All in all, the view was probably worth it, but not sure I’d return. It is close to good hiking and we felt safe.

The view is beautiful but the highway traffic and the large gravel on the camp site made our camping experience not enjoyable. We almost twisted our ankle multiple times on the large gravel. The hosts should install a top coat of small gravel over the entire campsite to fix that issue. This definitely wouldn’t be a site for tent camping.

Beautiful view but the rocks made it miserable as well as the road being so close. We had to be very cautious every time we go places. We definitely won’t be back. Anything walkable would have helped to make the trip more enjoyable. Sorry but it’s an honest opinion

Very beautiful campsite, and I like the added security of being able to close the gate. With my small rig, even with another Camper showing up the second day, it was still very private and will definitely visit again!

This site is great if you also book site 1. The sites are very close together, share space, and the outhouse. You don't get as close to the overlook with this site. Perfect space for a group in connection with Site 1. See my review for Site 1.

The view is spectacular!! We booked both Sites 1 and 2, which was perfect for my group of seven. We loved sitting around the fire and watching the sunset/moon! Beautiful!! It was easy to find, and we really enjoyed our time. We had one camper van and a few tents. Air mattresses are definitely advisable due to the gravel. The only downfall is that the packed gravel/concrete makes it nearly impossible to stake a tent or a tarp down. Luckily for us, it was not very windy.

The area and Host were amazing. The site was great as well. The only draw back for us, and this may be unique to us, is that we had two motorcycles with cases. We were unable to drive down the steep his with our bikes so we had to carry our heavy cases. Again, this may be only applicable to us. If I had a car and a wagon to put the stuff, it would be fine. The path was steep and had loose gravel. All that said, I'd go back!

The view at site 1 was beautiful! Very clear directions and easy to navigate to. Enjoyed the clean well kept atmosphere. Be sure to come prepared with water and supplies as well as waste storage. The road noise/traffic was more than expected but tolerable. The rocky floor was nice with the rain we had (no mud!).

this is an adorable campsite! We had a great time! Fair warning to tent campers, the ground is too hard for tent stakes due to the rocks. make sure to bring extra camping mats or inflatable mattresses for the same reason.

Our trip to Elkhead didn’t work out. We got away from our last spot late and traffic was awful. I messaged the host to let her know I wouldn’t be able to make it so that she wasn’t looking for us. She did the most unexpected thing. SHE REFUNDED OUR MONEY! She was super responsive throughout the booking process and I just know that it would have been a perfect ending to our trip

Beautiful view at campsite 1. You can kind of see it from campsite 2. There was decent shade in the morning at campsite 2. The outhouse bathroom was good. There was a trail camera on our site, which felt a little strange. The site is very close to the road, so you do hear traffic noise. If you are tenting, be aware that rocks are large and the ground is uneven. After a little effort of scouting for flat ground and rearranging rocks, we were able to settle in. Fortunately, we had thick mattress pads, which helped with the comfort level.

This was our first Hipcamp experience, so we were a little nervous. But what a great spot to camp for the night. Beautiful views. We arrived after dark and everything was as described in the welcome message from Sonja. I would definitely camp here again.

The view from the top campsites is amazing. Access to the camps from a paved road is very easy. Power connection conveniently located to RV sites. The outhouse was clean and close, but too close to campsites. During our 3 day stay it was quiet and peaceful. The road noise is present, but not persistent.

My family loved camping at Elk Head. The scenery was beautiful..it was peaceful and quiet. I accidentally booked the wrong site (non-electrical) and the host graciously fixed it for me. We went down there for Bonnaroo and unfortunately it got canceled so we ended up leaving a night early. The host generously provided us a refund even though it was absolutely no fault or her own. I would recommend this place and we would definitely stay here again.
